- In this video, I had the opportunity to chat with Dr. Jason Littleton, a Family Medicine and Concierge Physician about life as a concierge physician, why he chose to go into the field of Family Medicine, and about his book, WellSpring.
Jason Littleton, MD is a board-certified family physician offering convenient concierge healthcare. He emphasizes personal attention, prevention, and smart lifestyle choices for optimal health, wellness, energy, youthfulness, longevity, balance, and happiness. He encourages patients to eat nutritiously and focus on fitness, providing clear, practical, personalized guidance for doing so in our busy lives.
Dr. Littleton earned his MD from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and a BS in Biology from the University of Michigan. In 2010, he received National Doctor’s Day Recognition from the Practitioner Excellence Committee for “compassionate and excellent care” of patients at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI. He also received the Resident Teacher Award as a family medicine resident. Today, Dr. Littleton serves patients in the Orlando area.

OMGeeeesh!!!!! This is sooooo what I was conversing with my grandmother about today!!!!! I was telling her that I wanted to be able to practice medicine in the hospital but have a clientele Base outside of the hospital. I was trying to figure out how I could do it . Wow.. Look at God!!! That was super interesting. Thanks for making that video. Seems like that model caters to the 1 percent but the benefits to whoever can afford it are great. I wonder when patients get referred to specialists if they get discounted rates and how insurance works with that.

My practice was cash based only, I gave my pts a receipt for the charge and they could turn it in to their insurance if they wanted. I loved being able to spend as much time as I wanted with my pts….sometimes they would sit around for 30 min and talk after their treatment…I charged about the same as a co-pay and pts were happy to pay it.

Thanks for the question and video suggestion. I will look into that field. As far as age, I get this question a lot. It's kind of hard to answer this question completely without knowing your story (family life, previous life experiences, future goals, etc) but here are my thoughts: You will be in your career working as a physician for 20-30+ years and I know the road to get to that point is arduous and lengthy, but I do believe it's worth it. You have to ask yourself, "Am I willing to sacrifice family and personal time, sacrifice a minimum of 8-10 years of my life and sacrifice financially to become a doctor?" And if that answer is yes, I say go for it. The average age in my medical school class was roughly 26-30 years old (oldest being 42 and youngest 23) and I currently work with 2 orthopedic surgeons who are 80+ years old. They have been a doctor for longer than I have been born. So, starting off medical school at (to overestimate it) 40 years old, you will be done around 50 years old and still can work 20 years and retire at 70.

This is what I'm going to do. ..i can't think of a better way to serve & become my client's expert caretaker.
I am a psychiatrist but I no longer do any more med management. I actually have a niche interest and very specialized ability to offer psychotherapy treatment for the borderline patients. I am thinking about opening an all cash psychotherapy practice, specifically treating the borderline patient. The fee will be used as both a fee for service as well as a limit setting tool where it is clear that the sessions are a professional doctor patient relationship and the fee must be paid at the time of service. It is espeicially important to set the boundaries and limits when working with the borderline patient population. I think a firm, none-negotiable fee structure is the best of both worlds: the doctor gets properly compensated for his time, and the patient comes to understand the boundaries and the limit-setting that is integral part of the very treatment being offered. It is very interesting that the fee, in therapy, is a very integral part of the entire concept of the treatment itself, as the fee represents more than just money. It is actually a limit setting tool. Kind of neat role it plays in that specific way.

Just another way for doctors to avoid dealing with insurance. I wish there was universal healthcare in this country. I can't believe how greedy doctors are.
Dealing with insurance is a giant headache for both the Dr and the pt…the insurance companies are out to make money for themselves and their shareholders. They aren’t our friend.
Country Club medicine….handling only the fat cats that can afford to shell out to this money pit. How about doctors learn to manage their time better? Stacking patient on patient makes you late all the time. We pay deductibles that are outrageous. We pay fees to see you that are ridiculous (in my area $250-350 per visit). After we get through shelling out money on top of money, how do we afford to feed our families and pay our bills?
I do think if someone is a highly rated doctor they should make more. At the same time, what they are offering in most cases is what doctors used do in general. This is the result of the b.s. of insurance companies and greed.
