    Lithium grease works great for metal parts, but it's messy. I use interior detailer on everything that moves and doesn't. No smell (like silicone) or mess. Lasts a long time.

      Lithium grease collects dirt. Put up with the smell of silicone, as it's a much better choice for anything exposed to dust and dirt.

    WD40 is truly an amazing product. Here's another use that saved me a headache when garage door would not close, spray it on the rollers and problem is instantly solved.
    Pro Tip; I also use it as a cooking spray. It keeps food from sticking to the pan.

    • @BillyBobDingledorf

      Make sure you follow it up with a silicone lubricant. WD40 is a great product that everyone should have, but it's not a lubricant.

    I have to disagree on the lugnuts. This is a case where WD-40 is too good. They should never be lubricated. It makes them more susceptible to unintended loosening. Get them off with even steady pressure from a cheater bar, then just use anti-seize compound when you put them back on instead.

    The doors rust out because water gets in the door inbetween the window and the window rubber on the outside. The door begins to rust because there is no paint on the inside of the door... just bare metal making it easy for it to rust. If you take your door panel off and flexseal the bottom of the inside of the door, then it will last longer without rusting.

    • @coolbreez4406
      @coolbreez4406 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      P.s. There are drains in the door to let the water out... be sure to not plug them or your door will begin to hold water.

    Little history.
    In 1953, Rocket Chemical Company and its staff of three began research in a small lab in San Diego, California to create a line of rust-prevention solvents and degreasers for use in the aerospace industry.
    After 40 attempts to get the water-displacing formula worked out, they perfected the original secret formula for WD-40® Multi-Use Product-which stands for Water Displacement perfected on the 40th try. This amazing formula is still in use today.
    Convair, an aerospace contractor, first used WD-40 to protect the outer skin of the Atlas Missile from rust and corrosion. Because it worked so well, employees snuck some WD-40 cans out of the plant to use at home.
    A few years later, Rocket Chemical Company founder Norm Larsen experimented with putting WD-40 into aerosol cans, reasoning that consumers might use the product at home just as the Convair employees had. WD-40 Multi-Use Product made its first appearance on store shelves in San Diego in 1958.
    In 1960 the company nearly doubled in size, growing to seven people. This team sold an average of 45 cases per day from the trunks of their cars to hardware and sporting goods stores in the San Diego area.
    In 1961 the first full truckload order for WD-40 was filled when employees came in on a Saturday to produce additional concentrate to meet the disaster needs of the victims of Hurricane Carla along the U.S. Gulf coast. WD-40 was used to recondition flood- and rain-damaged vehicles and equipment.
    WD-40 was starting to get a bit lonely as the only product, so in 1995, WD-40 Company acquired the 100-year-old brand 3-IN-ONE® Oil from Reckitt & Coleman. 3-IN-ONE, with its precise applicator spout, made a wonderful match for WD-40.
    After 50 years, WD-40 Company proudly introduced BLUE WORKS®-a line of industrial grade, specialty maintenance products that surpass industry standards and deliver superior performance under the toughest conditions.
    Now, WD-40 Company is proud to introduce WD-40® Specialist®, a line of superior performing specialty maintenance products designed to meet specific needs of professional users. I've been selling WD40 for 37 years never had a complaint about the product. I also use it, it works great.

    I've been using WD-40 on and in my car locks for nearly 40 years. The new cans with the "Smart Straws" don't always fit. I have a couple of older cans that I keep just for the locks. Water, from car washes, can get in and freeze up in winter. This will displace it. Because of doing this, I've never had a problem.

      I've never used WD40 in my car locks and have also never had a problem in 45 years of owning cars. However, if you do choose to use WD40, it will clear out the water, but it will also de-lubricate. Follow up the WD 40 with some lubricant. Graphite is best for locks.

      Actually.....you shouldn't use it on ANY types of locks, period. Use graphite to lube ALL locks. (Rub a pencil on a piece of paper building up a pile of the lead. Take your key and run it through the lead pile then insert key into lock) If a lock is stuck, use brake cleaner to get it moving again; NOT WD-40.
      WD-40 + dirt = a big sticky, gooey & tacky blob. It's almost the consistency of wet cement glue.

    is it a good idea to undercoat your car once in a while with WD-40 to prevent it from rust & corrosion?

    • @JA-rn5qv
      @JA-rn5qv 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Only if you wash under there really good first, get all dirt and grime off. Then you're best off buying the WD-40 by the gallon and using your own sprayer, preferably a pressurized one. You mainly need to hit up the areas of concern and when you do, make sure you soak it well and allow it to sit over night before you wipe anything down. It will absorb to a certain degree to the micropores. That's exactly how it works to free up stuck parts as well. And yes it does work, you should reapply every few years. Some people actually spray down the empty space at the bottom of their doors below where the window glass sits and allow a fair amount of the WD-40 to accumulate down there. Apparently it has worked very well for them to prevent those areas (bottom of doors) from rusting out since many times it's water accumulating inside the door panel (condensation & drip-down from rolling windows up/down when wet) you can check out videos from people who've done it and hand good results.

    I remember back in the 80’s those old timers use to buy this shit by the case to spray the undercarriages of there vehicles! That’s why you don’t see a old timer with a rust bucket!

      The problem of WD40 is that is harsh on rubber. So all the rubber bushings... wear faster in contact with WD40.
      The only WD40 i would use specially on plastics and rubber is the WD40 PTFE.

      There is not a refined petroleum product that does not attract dust. Even silicone will attract dust.
