    Alloy wheels are exposed to the elements and all sorts of dirt and road grime. WD-40 Multi-Use Product protects metal from rust and corrosion, penetrates stuck parts, displaces moisture and lubricates almost anything…and cleans up alloy wheels a treat! Simply spray on a clean, soft cloth and rub over. For more stubborn dirt and grime, use a brush or apply more pressure to remove. Don’t Spray on Brakes....

    Keep in mind that WD-40 attracts dirt, so where you are lubricating parts, either a good grease or motorcycle chain lubricant is a a good idea after they are freed up with WD-40. I was using it to keep my chain binders from rusting up and being hard to use (i'm a truck driver flat bed), but after a long trip they were gummed up with dirt. I switched to motorcycle chain lubricant which sheds dirt and lubricates and that took care of the problem. It even stays on in the rain. So use WD-40 to unstick a frozen bolt etc, but then put a lubricant on it for the long term. Also I don't think a good idea to clean rims as there is a big chance it could get on the break pads as others here have mentioned, however rear drum breaks I think would be ok. For wheels Maquires mag wheel cleaner is the best. WD-40 also makes good Potato Cannon propellant as it's fairly combustible when confined like gasoline or Petrol as this guy appears to be from the UK. I often use it to start my wood stove up.

    Here's a tad of info. looks Like your in love with WD-40, which is a "SOLVENT" and will do what "Solvents" do. As being a antique clock re-builder, I will not allow a can of WD-40 in my place of work. Wd-40 actually "Attracks moisture out of the air and displaces this on anything you spray it on. This can easily be proven by Taking a brand new rifle or shotgun and spraying down the outside of all its metallic surfaces, the stowing it away in it's case for a few months and then wipe it down with a nice new white cloth and see all the rust that your WD-40 created. I really believe this is done by way of design,as I have only found this stuff to be good as a solvent for very short term. It should only be marketed as a solvent in my opinion, as I have seen the results of what WD-40 has done to electrical panels and many other things that it is believed to PROTECT. Marketing 101 !

    this is the first time l have seen someone call brake dust carbon rust
    WD40 is a penetrant not a lubricant so yes good to clean things but never use it as an oil

    • @MrAxTheBackBencherExperiment
      @MrAxTheBackBencherExperiment  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are right Don’t spray on Brake. you can use WD on alloy wheels for Remove carbon Dust.

    • @MrAxTheBackBencherExperiment
      @MrAxTheBackBencherExperiment  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      bjorn1583 Alloy wheels are exposed to the elements and all sorts of dirt and road grime. WD-40 Multi-Use Product protects metal from rust and corrosion, penetrates stuck parts, displaces moisture and lubricates almost anything…and cleans up alloy wheels a treat! Simply spray on a clean, soft cloth and rub over But Don’t Spray on Brakes.

    most of these "brilliant ideas" are actualy what wd40 is made for.. nothing brilliant about lubricating a door hinge with a product that is made to do this. same with the bike foot stand. and please be very carefull using this on your wheels.. you do not want a lubricant on your brake disk...

    • @alanbrown397
      @alanbrown397 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Lubricating any hinge with WD40 is a silly idea. The hinge is almost guaranteed to fail a few months later. WD40 is not a lubricant, it's a penetrating/cleaning oil and you should always folllow up with a real oil afterwards.
      WD = "water displacer" - it's good for rust protection. That's what it was created for.
      One thing it's _BRILLIANT_ for is graffiti prevention - wipe down metal shutters or other surfaces with it. As well as preventing oxidation, the remaining oil film means any sprayed graffiti will simply wipe off the surface.

      Alan Brown WD40 is brilliant on hinges and door locks,i used it on hinges of doors to stop the squeaky noise and a jammy doorlock on the same door and the lock on the backgate was sticking as well,that was ten years ago and haven't had to use it since,still have that very same spraycan of WD40 after ten years and everything working perfectly.

    • @Markdmarque
      @Markdmarque 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      WD40 is not actually designed as a permanent lubricant in most circumstances. It is water displacement (WD).Too light a lubricant for lots of things and actually no good for most lubrication as it dissolves the thicker grease that was originally on the item to be lubricated. Window hinges get worse!

      This is true. Main ingredient is fish oil.

    • @jamescrabb8766

      Actually the oil comes from a petroleum base--no fish oil. Some fishermen sprayed it on their hooks, caught fish and decided it must be fish oil--but they were wrong and the rumor was off to the races being repeated over and over.

    "WD-40" is abbreviated from the term "Water Displacement, 40th formula", suggesting it was the result of the 40th attempt to create the product. The spray, composed of various hydrocarbons, was originally designed to be used by Convair to protect the outer skin of the Atlas missile from rust and corrosion.

    PS: WD40 is a penetrating lubricant.

    • @125sloth
      @125sloth 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      But not to replace proper oils. It penetrates and lubricates the job to be done, lubrication can imply many things, I doubt you would see motor cycles with WD 40 as a chain lubricant. It simply would not last an hour.
