Ash getting Riolu was truly a monumental moment. Lucario from day one looked like the Pokemon built for Ash and it was so great to finally get one. Also love the use of Aura and the continuity of Ash's strong connection to it. They could've just left it in Movie 8 but they didn't and I'm all the happier for it.
I always like the part where Pikachu started to feel neglected/jealous when Ash was focused on using Riolu more. I’m not sure why but I always find that funny. Anyway, like you said Prof., this capture is long overdue and I’m finally glad it happened. They even went the extra mile to give it a Mega Evolution despite being removed in Sword and Shield, mad props for that. I really enjoy this session and I can’t wait to cover Lucario. Thanks!
I do admit, Ash's team for Journey surprise me. I expected him to catch only Galar Pokémon, but I'm surprised to see him catch Pokémon from past generations. From Dragonite, to Gengar, to now having a Lucario. And I'm not even upset about it, this new team if Ash in this series is awesome!
Riolu has that weird position as a coveted Pokémon but only after he evolves. He was also received as an egg in Gen IV, hard to get in Gen V, mostly ignored in Gen VI since the player is GIVEN a Lucario fairly early and is a post-game find in Gen VII.
This Pokémon is the definition of fan service. Since Lucario debuted everyone wanted Ash to get one so when he finally got that Riolu egg it was only a matter of time until it evolved. I took over a decade but here we are.
@@ProfessorAlexSilver Yeah it was very different. Finally caught a ghost and psychic Pokémon. Dragonite and Gengar were two of the popular Gen 1 evolved Pokémon and it was nice to see him take his moms mr mime.
You know Riolu was solidified as a good partner for Ash when Pikachu gets jealous. Don't recall him ever being jealous of the other Pokemon on his team. If anything we've seen his other Pokemon jealous of him.
Also, it was thanks to this awesome arc of a story, as well as a certain gym leader's return and flashback during the rematch against Bea and the many abilities that Aura had throughout Journeys, that kinda helped influence a certain choice of mine for another fan-fic of mine I wrote recently. I won't go into specifics here to spoil it, but it's rather interesting... And it makes sense in a way when you think about it...
I feel like the centralization on Riolu since it was caught was both great but also not great. Since the rest of Ash's team was fully evolved and powerful already, Riolu was to have since he had to work hard to get stronger. Where the cracks show is that it's just Riolu who develops so he was taking up all this space and leaving none for the others. Even when Ash got another preevolved Pokemon, Riolu still took center stage.
I definitely wish Ash had more evolutions this season. He really only had two and then GMax/Mega if you want to count those too. Evolution arcs always add so much characterization to his Pokemon
in the anime, there should be a part where ash brings back some of his pokemon and reuniting with his released ones like primeape pidgeot goodra greninja and maybe even catch larvitar who might be a full frown tyranitar
While I can imagine most of them eventually returning, I'm pretty sure that his Pidgeot was canonically released at the end of it's last appearance. I know that there are many fans who want to see it return one day, but it's mostly because Ash promising to one day come back for it in the English dub only. I'm also not really sure how to feel about Ash's Primeape, since he barely got to own it before giving it to a different trainer after it's first major episode since it's capture. To me, it seems like Primeape was mostly an afterthought, since there is no other Pokemon that appeared in so few episodes or that got as little focus as it did, even though there was probably a good bit more they could've done with it for the brief time Ash owned it
I LOVE that Ash has a Lucario now, especially armed with Mega Evolution. I'm just waiting for it to learn how to use Bone Rush. But I can't help but think it was a missed opportunity for Ash to capture that wild Onix after getting beat by Riolu.

Riolu was obviously a fan-favorite of mine I loved it so much that I used it for my team in Pokemon Diamond, Pokemon X, Pokemon Omega Ruby, Pokemon Sun, Pokemon Ultra Moon, Pokemon Sword, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Legends: Arceus
Loved it! I'm looking forward to seeing the complete history of Ash's Sceptile on here someday now that Charizard, Greninja and Infernape are all done. Also complete history of Squishy!!
Aside from Pikachu, Lucario has been an absolute mascot in this franchise; being a playable character in Smash Bros roster, having it's own featured movie, appearing in the video games, and actually being part of Ash's team
I thought it was fitting that Ash ended up getting a Riolu especially since the theories about him being related to Riley and Sir Aaron (from the Lucario movie.)
Sir Aaron is a Bloodliner who lived thousands of years ago in what is now the Duchy of Rota. He is an ancestor of Ash and Delia, and who Ash inherited one of his Bloodlines from.
It’s hilarious to me that everyone is saying that Lucario is the next Ash-Greninja because of its Aura Bond. As much as I think Lucario is cool, he will never replace Greninja. Besides, the Bond Phenomenon will forever be superior and the Aura Bind has nothing on it. Besides, it’s confirmed that Greninja will return in Pokémon Journeys!!
It's tough for anyone to compete with Greninja because of the animation of XY imo. the battles are just too epic and the scenes too cool. As much as I love Charizard, for example, he can't even compete with Infernape in terms of quality fights
Ever since Sinnoh I Always wanted ash to take that Aura sphere Riolu but it wanted to be with his owner basically and that was fine since it wanted to go home but now my wish finally came and now it’s one of ashes first mega evolution Pokémon!

I would love to see Ash’s Gliscor history! Gliscor is one of my favorite Pokémon and I personally remember Ash’s Gliscor as a great Pokémon with tons of personality and power to him!
It's a top 4 Pokemon movie for me.. The first two are too nostalgiac for me to judge properly, and I'm in the minority on thinking I Choose You was fantastic

Hester I just started watching Pokémon journey and I allready finished all of sun and moon series the day before that. Not Much to say about riolu on ashes team but I can’t wait to see it evolve into lucario and I think it’s great that ash has that Pokémon added to his team as well as gengar dragonite and a few others. I look forward to watching more videos like these In the future and I’ll watch some past videos that I missed when I get the chance some other time because I have other stuff going on but I’ll get their. Riolu was long overdue, but his story was worth every bit of it. Ash should have had it back in Diamond and Pearl, but it was worth the wait. This Arc here was still great and emotional. His personality was spot-on and relationship with Ash was perfect. I can't wait to see more of Lucario, as he is just getting stronger.
@@ProfessorAlexSilver True. Sirfetch'd still had his moments to shine, but not as much. I will admit that. Lucario's battles has been awesome. I prefer his battle against Volkner over his rematch against Bea. He battled all three of Volkner's Pokémon... Holding his own against them all. Defeating one... And drawing against Volkner's Ace, Luxray. Quite impressive for his first battle since evolving.
@@ProfessorAlexSilver I think the two main reasons why Lucario got so much more focus than Sirfetch'd is because not only is it a much more popular Pokemon, but also because it tied into Ash being able to use the power of aura, which was barely touched upon until he finally got Riolu. I just wish that they would've given it to Ash sooner (like most people) rather than waiting as long as they did
In my opinion riolu is the coolest fighting pokémon I've ever seen when it evolves into Lucario it becomes a fighting and steel type Pokemon which makes it even cooler than it was before when it mega evolves into mega Lucario and it can use Aura sphere and can see Aura with its eyes.
Riolu/Lucario in the games is powerful despite not being necessarily the best in competition. But it's lore and how we players and fans feel about Pokemon make it feel like a must in any team. I always use my imagination when playing the games to feel bonded with my Pokemon and the anime futher enforces that whole thing of feeling like your Pokemon can pull through. I still remember beating Red after about an hour of battling with Pokemon 20 levels below the OG 3 starters he had. At that point it would've taken me about a week if grinding to catch up 20 levels but I trained a bit and devised a strategy to beat them with weaker Pokemon. The same ones that took me through the whole game. I was a kid and refused to use legendaries because I had already caught them without being using strongest. Nowadays I play some rom hack and if Riolu is ever available I make sure to make one a part of my team!
I always wondered if this Riolu's behavior was common or rare for them. This Riolu was pretty aggressive/independent as soon as it hatched. (In comparison to for example Korrina's more playful Riolu) If you would put it in the games its nature could be something like "Serious/Bold" and "Likes to Fight/Strong-willed." I liked how this Riolu/Lucario mellowed out over time. Being able to sense auras it makes sense he would adapt to Ash's cheerful and kind personality.
@@ProfessorAlexSilver Yeah, their ability to sense auras gives them a solid advantage. I guess I was surprised because in the games they're often portrayed as cute and adorable but they are definitely able to hold their own when needed. I forgot to mention it, but I really enjoyed this video. Fun to watch and very informative. I look forward to check out your other videos soon.
I rewatched the 8th movie before it came off pokemon tv the other day ( it was never realsesed on DVD here over in the uk) and yeah it just reconfirmed that he was gonna get one someday. Riolu has became a beast and is gonna go down as one of his best, not to mention his first mega evolution

I guess this is going to be the last series of Ash's Journey thus the creators are trying their best to get the best of the fans' requests from the very beginning of the Pokemon anime like Ash having a Lucario, him using Mega Evolution, a somewhat hinted return of Greninja and many more.
Maybe in a non history video, you could express your thoughts with how pikachu felt he was being replaced by riolu. Out of all the Pokemon Ash has caught, riolu was the only one pikachu was jealous of and almost left Ash.
@@christopherbeltran7697 dude, since evolving, it’s knocked out Rose’s Copperajah and Ferrothorn, Volkner’s Rotom and Luxray, Bea’s Grapploct and Machamp, Paul’s Gyarados, and Raihan’s Duraludon. Most of these were also without mega evolution.
@@salvatoresultana4058 It didn't beat volkner's luxray it was a tie cause both fainted, and it also just barely defeated Paul's gyarados when it faced it, and also barely was able to defeat bea's machamp even tho it was in it's mega evolution form and then against raihan's duraludon it even struggled to beat him even tho he hadn't taken any damage in a previous battle and was being used brand new and had type advantage!
@@salvatoresultana4058 Lucario isn't that good and is kinda bad honestly and for sure doesn't have the accomplishments of any of ash's other aces like Infernape who took out 3 of Paul's pokemon at the sinnoh league or his charizard who took out a legendary and his sceptile who also took out a legendary or his pikachu who has defeated legendarys and is his number one pokemon or even ash's krookodile or even his incineroar from the alola region!

I like to think that, Ash's Riolu is a reincarnation of the Lucario from the Lucario and the Mystery of Mew movie, seeing how they has a strong bond in the movie. I know it's probably not the case but it's just a personal head cannon I have.
Oh yes Ash’s Riolu who is now Lucario. It has become Ash’s strongest fighting type in the group. It used the moves vacuum wave, aura sphere, bullet punch, force palm oh and reversal throughout the saga. I remember that there was this one time Pikachu got jealous when Ash was training with Riolu more than it. I didn’t blame it cause Ash was spent more time with Riolu than it, Ash kinda hurt his feelings without realizing it and it even ran away. Pikachu and Ash have been a team since the very beginning but they were able to patch things up and Ash got thunder bolted as payback. Anyway, about Riolu, it lost a few times against Bea but even when it was able to knockout Grapploc, the second match ended in a tie. But in the third match, it finally beat one of Bea’s Pokémon her Machamp while mega evolved. It was awesome
I hope you mention his relationship with cinderace when you make a Lucario video. Its kind of cute, like bestfriends or even lovers haha (because of ep 48 and a panel of them sleeping next to each other under a tree). Anyways, great video as always!☺️
I think Ash’s Riolu was good and I’m looking for to when you tackle it as Lucario and I feel it was a misted opportunity back In DP we’re Ash wasn’t given a Riolu Egg by Riley when he doe give one to the Player in the Games and can you do Buizel next.
Ash has several pokemon that could potentially use mega evolution. Ash's Charizard for example would be a great fit for using mega evolution. I also wanted to add that several of Ash's pokemon have potential to mega evolution. Gengar, Heracross, Sceptile, Glalie, and of Course Charizard are Ash's Current pokemon that could mega evolution. Ash already has a mega Lucario. Potential in the future if Ash's pokemon bulbasaur evolves in Venusaur, Squirtle evolves in Blastoise, Gible evolves into Garchomp, and if Ash still had his Pidgeot could mega evolution.
I was wondering when ash would get a riolu/Lucario that was a long time coming I always thought he should have gotten one during kalos. Lucario are a good rounders too have on a team I got luck to find a riolu in shield my first time

I think greninja returned in ultimate journeys (I wouldn’t know because it hasn’t come out in Netflix yet)

Imagine a battle with all "gimmicks" allowed in the anime like Z-moves, megas, and gigantimax. Would love to see Ash use Mega Lucario, GMAX Gengar, and 10,000,000 volt thunderbolt in one battle. just as well to add in Battle Bond Greninja and Blaze Infernape while we're at it :)

Hester I just started watching Pokémon journey and I allready finished all of sun and moon series the day before that. Not Much to say about riolu on ashes team but I can’t wait to see it evolve into lucario and I think it’s great that ash has that Pokémon added to his team as well as gengar dragonite and a few others. I look forward to watching more videos like these In the future and I’ll watch some past videos that I missed when I get the chance some other time because I have other stuff going on but I’ll get their. Riolu was long overdue, but his story was worth every bit of it. Ash should have had it back in Diamond and Pearl, but it was worth the wait. This Arc here was still great and emotional. His personality was spot-on and relationship with Ash was perfect. I can't wait to see more of Lucario, as he is just getting stronger.
The only thing I disliked about Riolu was that he shafted Farfetch'd lol. Poor guy took a year to get development. Otherwise, RIolu rules!
@@ProfessorAlexSilver True. Sirfetch'd still had his moments to shine, but not as much. I will admit that. Lucario's battles has been awesome. I prefer his battle against Volkner over his rematch against Bea. He battled all three of Volkner's Pokémon... Holding his own against them all. Defeating one... And drawing against Volkner's Ace, Luxray. Quite impressive for his first battle since evolving.
@@ProfessorAlexSilver I think the two main reasons why Lucario got so much more focus than Sirfetch'd is because not only is it a much more popular Pokemon, but also because it tied into Ash being able to use the power of aura, which was barely touched upon until he finally got Riolu. I just wish that they would've given it to Ash sooner (like most people) rather than waiting as long as they did

In my opinion riolu is the coolest fighting pokémon I've ever seen when it evolves into Lucario it becomes a fighting and steel type Pokemon which makes it even cooler than it was before when it mega evolves into mega Lucario and it can use Aura sphere and can see Aura with its eyes.
Hmm a lot of fighting types so it's hard for me to pick my fav XD
Infernape is my favorite fighting type and is better than lucario in my opinion!

Riolu/Lucario in the games is powerful despite not being necessarily the best in competition. But it's lore and how we players and fans feel about Pokemon make it feel like a must in any team.
I always use my imagination when playing the games to feel bonded with my Pokemon and the anime futher enforces that whole thing of feeling like your Pokemon can pull through.
I still remember beating Red after about an hour of battling with Pokemon 20 levels below the OG 3 starters he had. At that point it would've taken me about a week if grinding to catch up 20 levels but I trained a bit and devised a strategy to beat them with weaker Pokemon. The same ones that took me through the whole game.
I was a kid and refused to use legendaries because I had already caught them without being using strongest.
Nowadays I play some rom hack and if Riolu is ever available I make sure to make one a part of my team!
I love the lore -- the Mystery of Mew remains one of my favorite films

I always wondered if this Riolu's behavior was common or rare for them. This Riolu was pretty aggressive/independent as soon as it hatched. (In comparison to for example Korrina's more playful Riolu) If you would put it in the games its nature could be something like "Serious/Bold" and "Likes to Fight/Strong-willed." I liked how this Riolu/Lucario mellowed out over time. Being able to sense auras it makes sense he would adapt to Ash's cheerful and kind personality.
I think Riolu in general must be arrogant pokemon due to their aura mastery giving them enhanced abilities
@@ProfessorAlexSilver Yeah, their ability to sense auras gives them a solid advantage. I guess I was surprised because in the games they're often portrayed as cute and adorable but they are definitely able to hold their own when needed. I forgot to mention it, but I really enjoyed this video. Fun to watch and very informative. I look forward to check out your other videos soon.

I rewatched the 8th movie before it came off pokemon tv the other day ( it was never realsesed on DVD here over in the uk) and yeah it just reconfirmed that he was gonna get one someday. Riolu has became a beast and is gonna go down as one of his best, not to mention his first mega evolution

I guess this is going to be the last series of Ash's Journey thus the creators are trying their best to get the best of the fans' requests from the very beginning of the Pokemon anime like Ash having a Lucario, him using Mega Evolution, a somewhat hinted return of Greninja and many more.

@@christopherbeltran7697 dude, since evolving, it’s knocked out Rose’s Copperajah and Ferrothorn, Volkner’s Rotom and Luxray, Bea’s Grapploct and Machamp, Paul’s Gyarados, and Raihan’s Duraludon. Most of these were also without mega evolution.
@@salvatoresultana4058 It didn't beat volkner's luxray it was a tie cause both fainted, and it also just barely defeated Paul's gyarados when it faced it, and also barely was able to defeat bea's machamp even tho it was in it's mega evolution form and then against raihan's duraludon it even struggled to beat him even tho he hadn't taken any damage in a previous battle and was being used brand new and had type advantage!

I like to think that, Ash's Riolu is a reincarnation of the Lucario from the Lucario and the Mystery of Mew movie, seeing how they has a strong bond in the movie. I know it's probably not the case but it's just a personal head cannon I have.

Oh yes Ash’s Riolu who is now Lucario. It has become Ash’s strongest fighting type in the group. It used the moves vacuum wave, aura sphere, bullet punch, force palm oh and reversal throughout the saga. I remember that there was this one time Pikachu got jealous when Ash was training with Riolu more than it. I didn’t blame it cause Ash was spent more time with Riolu than it, Ash kinda hurt his feelings without realizing it and it even ran away. Pikachu and Ash have been a team since the very beginning but they were able to patch things up and Ash got thunder bolted as payback. Anyway, about Riolu, it lost a few times against Bea but even when it was able to knockout Grapploc, the second match ended in a tie. But in the third match, it finally beat one of Bea’s Pokémon her Machamp while mega evolved. It was awesome

I think Ash’s Riolu was good and I’m looking for to when you tackle it as Lucario and I feel it was a misted opportunity back In DP we’re Ash wasn’t given a Riolu Egg by Riley when he doe give one to the Player in the Games and can you do Buizel next.
I wrote Buizel but might be a little while before I get to it, I want to cover Oshawott, Pignite & Gliscor before I get to him :)
Ash has several pokemon that could potentially use mega evolution. Ash's Charizard for example would be a great fit for using mega evolution.
I also wanted to add that several of Ash's pokemon have potential to mega evolution.
Gengar, Heracross, Sceptile, Glalie, and of Course Charizard are Ash's Current pokemon that could mega evolution. Ash already has a mega Lucario.
Potential in the future if Ash's pokemon bulbasaur evolves in Venusaur, Squirtle evolves in Blastoise, Gible evolves into Garchomp, and if Ash still had his Pidgeot could mega evolution.
I'd love to see that happen
