    I'm glad you're so grounded and give realistic advices. TH-cam is full of people selling fake paths to success and so many desperate people follow them, it's sad.

    This is what I exactly need!
    I have been reading books on some great artist and I wasn’t able to get anywhere with what I was doing to get my work out there.
    I felt bad and I was about to give up on my work but I didn’t call it quits!
    People lie and that’s wrong and I’m so glad you’re showing us the real way in making money as a true artist!

      Sadly, if you want to enter this kind of competition one way only isn't just enough, it has to be the combination of most as a lifetime goal. Those artists (for the old ones) cited are from a generation when the economy was booming and they took the wave. It will be more difficult today, plus running alone for making your own big name is becoming less relevant in those uncertain times. What do you think?

    • @MarVelJones-n2n

      I thought it was totally discouraging. Then I realized that I don't care about becoming a "million dollar artist." I want to do what I love, surrounded by the people I love, in the place I love. I'm living a rich life.

    Love how honest you are. I was expecting some bs that everyone always posts. This all straight to the facts. Most of the art world is closed off to those outside of the financial elite. Which sucks but that also gives you an advantage if you can find ways to navigate through those seemingly roadblocks.

    There is one other route and it is the most important one you forget. It is being good. If you are original then that will open every door. Originality is missing today. It is hard to be original. But being an artist you need to be original else your art has failed. Yes there are a bunch of famous artists that are not very original. They are famous yes, but they are also failed artists.

    • @VeryPrivateGallery
      @VeryPrivateGallery  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Of course, you have to be good. In a competitive industry, being good is an entry ticket, not a guarantee to success. Let’s look at our neighbor - the fashion industry. Many models are good-looking. Kate Moss doesn’t have the most “beautiful” body and face, but she was one of the most successful supermodel in her era. Lauren Hutton has a gap in her teeth and was first considered weird. But she became an industry icon. Being good is a must. But what’s the secret sauce when it comes to becoming the “Kate Moss of visual art”? That’s.. a question.

      @@VeryPrivateGallery I do not know what the recipe is. I ran a gallery in NYC for 6 years. There are lots of great artists that never see the light of day and then there are a whole bunch of artists who really shouldn t be where they are because they really aren t that good. In the end I think it is pure luck. Who you know helps a lot maybe more so then what you do. But that is probably true in any occupation.

    • @VeryPrivateGallery

      @@albertinsinger7443 Yes, we have a term both in Spanish and in Chinese for this kind of human connections. The Spanish word is real nasty - enchufe. Like the electric plug. You plug it and you get the power. Uff. Sometimes when you are not the compatible plug (like the EU plug and the US, or UK plug), you can not access. It’s pretty much “born with”. We have a saying in Chinese: getting into the right womb is a technical job. Many of us are already lost when we came to the world.

    • @VeryPrivateGallery
      @VeryPrivateGallery  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@albertinsinger7443 Going back to the modeling industry, ten years ago model Lv Yan was considered as the top Chinese model in the world. She started her career in Paris after being scouted by model agency. But in China she was considered unbearably ugly by many people inside or outside the industry. It’s a curious thing why some professionals are “up there” when many people think they are not that qualified. They must have something, besides the connection. What do they have? Are there anything in common?

    • @albertinsinger7443
      @albertinsinger7443 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@VeryPrivateGallery Beaty lies in the eye of the beholder the saying goes. I lived in Asia for 15 years at first everyone looked the same to me. But after a while you can see who are the beautiful women. I am sure that in Paris they did not have a clue about who is a beautiful Chinese women. So the Chinese saying li is ugly is probably the truth. But does art have anything to do with beauty? Willie Nelson said once . Music is what is pleasing to the ear. So it will with painting to. It needs to please the eye.

    • @VeryPrivateGallery
      @VeryPrivateGallery  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mica, thanks for your message. That’s a very good topic. Many people had to work a stable job (like a state job) to pay for the bills. At age 50 it’s time to pick up what they really enjoy doing. Galleries love older and mature artists, they just want to see a strong historic record. Young artists had the excuse of not having such track records, but older artists don’t. The biggest question you will need to answer when working with others: why didn’t you dedicate to art in the past few decades? If you have a good answer, they will love it!

    If you know what Paris Hilton's like you'll know that creating art and making it public is just another way for her to get in the press without getting arrested.(One time she DID get arrested to get in the press.They put her in jail for a month in a tiny cell and she had a nervous breakdown in that cell.She can't handle being in jail so she has to find other legal ways to get in the press).The only reason the press pay attention to her and her art is that they ALREADY know who she is.

    • @VeryPrivateGallery

      I took art classes in high school, aiming at getting into top fine art academy. My maths scored below passing line, no wonder I wasn’t pursuing other careers like engineering. My classmates told me I was doing art because I wanted an easy way out, as art students are exempted from normal exams. Back then, people criticize art students for being a bad influence (drinking smoking tattooing as a minor). The stigma killed my interest in pursuing art. It’s like being a nerd in high school in the States, it’s not popular. Now that I am much older and have my own judgement, I believe although one’s motivation of making art might not be pure (money, fame, escape), it’s still honorable to take the opportunity to express oneself.

Forget about others and focus on working hard. this way you say, you start to focus on the money, the wealth of being and artist which takes you away from the reason you chose to be an artist. you start to make work you think will sell etc... sorry,,but this is not helpful video.
