Thanks. Great video. I agree. One of the big issues I find with promotion on social media is the time commitment. Then you would have to ask yourself, wouldn't my time be better spent actually producing art. The answer is nearly always. Yes. 😀 I'm off to do some art now. lol
Glad you mentioned online galleries. I have made a small step in that direction. With the foot traffic slowly getting in this year to brick and mortar galleries. What are your favorite online galleries?
David Keenan 👋 I really prefer the artists own online galleries. They can get almost 100% (deducting business costs of course) of the sales and get direct contacts with collectors.
Thank you! I will make more videos this year. I am currently stuck in a locked down city. Once I am free again, I will grab my camera and make some more :)
Hi Elroy, good or bad is relative. Many great artists in China were rejected by the European institutions. Once they were labeled as “natural art” hence, monkey art. Original in one culture, region or era doesn’t mean it is original in a different environment. It’s hard to judge. However, sometimes we must judge - e.g. in the trademark and design office where I used to work. Judges rule out on if an application (design) is novel or not. Authentic or not. There are some technical parameters. But still, some of the most creative and original works/designs aren’t successful in the market. Sometimes luck also plays a role.
Great video! I might add one more category, although much rarer, which is the artist who is simply unconventional concerning a mix of formal training and routes that lead to popularity. Although there was no internet, Andy Warhol comes to mind. He kind of broke the mold for what an artist had to be. What do you think?
Thankyou so much for all your videos and the valuable advices💜 I really wanted to know if being in Galleries is really important for artists??Is selling prints and original work and doing patreon or skillshare enough??
Hey there, today with the pandemic it is not as important as before. It was not really about being in a gallery though, but being accepted by the 'gatekeepers' in your niche. If you have a large audience online, they pay you to see/learn from you, that equals to being accepted by galleries.
Me xo Yes I will review them when I get a chance. I left them in Madrid at office but now Madrid is on lockdown again. If you are interested, there is an interview when I talked about all the books I have briefly: facebook.com/896146367093267/posts/4436130739761461/?vh=e&extid=iE2t4qDLn4cQLsLy&d=n
many reasons : veryprivateart is about the artist community and there is the website. It is still using Tumblr and still have quite some traffic. We are using It to push artist works and projects (works very well with Pinterest). veryprivategallery is more about the art business: the articles, the residency and coaching.
you always bring up the issues and nuances no one else does on youtube. really interesting insights. thank you

Originality of your art is the first step. If you do not have a good product it is a waist of time to push it.
