i agree completely, but de gea would be in front of the other 2 in my opinion, hes just plain better. although van der sar made lots and lots of epic saves, de gea does it in every game, its like hes not even trying. you can see him on the pitch covering all the angles, he can beat the striker before they even shoot, hes a machine

Van Der Sar is my favorite keeper of all time as I watched him growing up and is the reason I follow Manchester united but if it wasn't for schmeichel setting the standards for keepers we wouldn't have people like De Gea playing for our squad now

Peter "The Great Dane" Schmeichel was a beast of a keeper.... He knew how to sort his defence out! After he left United, the defenders knew their roles because he drilled his orders into their heads.... Literally!

De Gea is very impressive technically, but Schmeichel remains the best keeper I've ever seen. He was a massive guy yet he had incredible reflexes and agility, at close range he used his arms more effectively than any other keeper at the time, you can see that at 3:12 for example. He had such a huge presence on the field, constantly shouting at his team mates, he was a nightmare for attackers and defenders alike. He was in my opinion the biggest founder of what is expected of a keeper nowadays

Star Jump! I agree on all parts but Schmeichel has a similar problem to what Neuer has in my opinion, which is to not clear the ball properly the 1st time. This is one of DeGea best features, but they both recover well if it does come back at them quickly, which a credit to both.

Having played as a keeper myself, I would say Schmeichel. Van der sar was an amazing shot stopper (reaction saves and blocking/diving in front of the line), as is De Gea (probably slightly edges Van der sar and Schmeichel on that front), but Scmeichel was the complete goal keeper in terms of shot stopping, closing down angles, intimidating attackers and marshalling the defence. He was like having an extra defender in the team - a defender that could start an attack run as well because of his fantastic distribution of the ball after a save

Scmeichel of course. The complete package of world class shot-stopper, leader and a total monster. He was not just about shot stopping and reflexes. He had a huge influence, also with the accuracy of his throws out of defence to launch counter attacks. Greatest of all time.

I'm leaning towards Schmeichel from what I've heard. {I was born in 97} So Growing up in the 2000s Van Der Sar was my goalie.
Schmeichel made defenders scared to go through on goal 1v1 because they knew they were going to get cleaned out. He was the most commanding goalkeeper ever and also an amazing shotstopper...he could fly to the top corner no problem. He was my hero. Neuer is the closest thing to the Great Dane but still not at his level
He had no problems with 1v1 his strength was defenders if he was outside the box so there is a chance for goaline clearance to happen.

Schmeichel was in that team that broke through and reclaimed the trone after so many years where United never won the title.
That shift in the teams mentality took an immense belief, power, skills and leadership. And in center of that teams quest you found two men who
set United above everybody else: Cantona and Schmeichel. One scoring the goals and the other keeping it.
Schmeichel would tear up the premier league, letting no-one doubt who was the best keeper in the following years, setting new stadards constantly revolutionising the

He would plague strikers out of their minds with his almost violent way of coming out of his goal, his almost superhuman power in one v one situations.
Unbelievable keeper. Best keeper not only in United but in the leagues history.
De Gea no doubt in my mind. He's saved us on countless occasions, unlike the other two who have had real defenders in front of them. Imagine having to make saves like those 10 times a game... Only De Gea can say he can relate.
Schmeichel had players in front of him that came from the youth academy mainly, De Gea had the players money could buy. Schmeichel won throphies Van Der Saar won throphies De Gea hasn't. De Gea and Van Der Saar played with one of the most scoring players of all time. Schmeichel hasn't. Overall schmeichel was on a better team true but because they had a manager who made everyone deliver and who didn't gave passes to the other teams. And you really have to watch all the footage of schmeichel and van der saar so you can see how many occasions they also saved. Like fa cup semi final to win the trebble against a Legend striker who almost never missed penalties. thats a pretty big save in my world.

Remember that Van der Sar was a soccer player (I thought a midfield player, but I'm note sure) 'till the age of 16. From that age he became a goalkeeper. Because of his more than good positioning qualities and outstanding goalkeeping qualities he is the absolute #1 of all time.
Schmeichel was a outstanding goalkeeper but was almost "retarded" at positioning. Just search YT for "Schmeichel positioning blunders/fails".
De Gea is still "work in progress", but I don't think he will reach the level Van der Sar was, but who knows. He is the successor of Van der Sar for Manchester United, but could not handle the pressure. He has the potention to be as brilliant as Van der Sar, I think.

I've never witnessed Schmeichel or Van Der Sar because I'm only a teen. I've only ever seen De Gea and I love De Gea. All these goalkeepers are superb and I've seen some of their best highlights. I believe that Manchester United produces the best keepers : )

One on one there was only one. Kahn and other German keepers had some of the ruthlessness too, but only Schmeichel had it all.
Been supporting this club since 1988. Been blessed to see absolute legends between the sticks. That said, for me Schmeichel is the greatest GK of all time, not just in United's history but football overall. BUT instead of comparing, I just sat back and enjoyed 3 club legends :) Yes even young DDG has my full respect and is already a "legend". Just a fun video for a supporter overall, thanks for posting :)

Schmeichel without doubt is the best keeper Utd have ever had PERIOD. He's is(was) an absolutely world class goalkeeper and a true leader on the pitch. I can't rate him highly enough and I'm a Liverpool fan so please feel free to argue against this.....
May I point out that when Schmeichel joined United, it turned the club around. One of the coaches told Fergie after he signed Schmeichel "he will win you trophies" and that is how it turned out.
All three are great goalkeepers, but Schmeichel was the game changer and also changed our ideas of what a goalkeeper could be.

If you grew up in the 90´s then you know that Schmeichel reinvented how goal keeping was supposed to be. He was the first, the best, he was/is The Great Dane that led the danish national football team to their victory in EM 1992. And he is/was the man who Man Utd needed the most in their time of need and he secured every titel possible. Do not bother discuss this issue, the others are great goal keepers no doubt about it. But Schmeichel was the person who invented that style of goalkeeping. The others wouldnt be as great as they are without Schmeichel.

You can see over the years how outfield play has improved and play has become faster and more skillful. I followed Schmeichel all his career, he was the best. But, when you see the level of competition Van der sar was up against and the level De gea are in you have to say De Gea. However, and with hindsight of Schmeichel and all of his honours, Schmeichel made the greatest difference to the club. A tough one. All greats.

Any united fans who doesnt believe that the GREAT DANE is the best Keeper in their history is delusional. The leadership, man management from the back and sheer domination of his 18 yard box was incredible. Those long throws and huge goal kicks were outstanding. For me even as a Chelsea Fan, he will always be my no.1 pick for a keeper.

First of I would like to say, all three of them are WORLD CLASS.
Shot stopping: I would say they are really close. De Gea is probably a little ahead of the other two, because his reflexes and positioning are out of this world.
Ball distribution: Both Van der Sar and Schmeichel were better than De Gea at this. De Gea can be a bit sloppy with the passing sometimes. Schmeichel probably takes #1 spot in this category.
Penalties: No discussion here. Van der Sar hands down takes this, with Schmeichel as #2. VdS ability to psyche out the penalty taker was quite fascinating to watch.
Dealing with crosses: This is something De Gea struggled a lot with the first couple of seasons, however he has improved a lot over the years, but he's still behind Van der Sar and especially Schmeichel. Schmeichel was a very imposing goalkeeper and I've seen many strikers pull out of a challenge because they've heard the freight train that is Schmeichel come crashing towards them.
Leadership: Hands down Schmeichel with Van der Sar behind him. This is probably De Gea's weakest attribute. Both Schmeichel and VdS were a lot better at organizing and communicating with their defense.That being said they also had a better defense in front of them. De Gea is still young and I have no doubt he will improve this a lot in the future.
So, based on this I would rank them Schmeichel>VdS>De Gea
completely agree except for one thing: VdS was the best at distributing the ball, not Smeichel. Another fun fact is that VdS was notoriously bad at penalties early in his career.
I agree but I dont agree with final ranking because, the most important attribute is shot stopping and de gea is in another world compared to them two, also in one on ones, ddg is much better than them two. Ddg is better than them two in 3 most important aspects of shot stopping including diving, positioning and reflexes.
@@adiloz12 I think Consistency is the most important attribute for a goalkeeper, and DDG has been making some mistakes lately. Also Smeichel was much braver in 1v1s So I'dd give that to Smeichel as well. As far as reflexes and shotstopping when hes not making mistakes, sure DDG takes it.

I've been fortunate to have the privilege to watched all of them. Peter, Edwin and David. I'll start of by saying that all 3 were/are brilliant world class keepers.
Amongst the best of their generation.
I'll go with my heart. On balance, in terms of total goalkeeping skills, I'll go with Edwin as number 1.
His positioning and grace was exemplary and he was a fantastic ball distributor and penalty stopper.
His positioning in general play was also very good and his organization of defence. I rate him slightly ahead of Our Great Dane and David but not by much.
They all have great attributes though.

Schmeichel is one of the most importent reasons Utd made such a blast of the 90`s, While van der Sar was not any less good Scmeichel was just happened to be there at their glory-days.
De Gea on the other hand has to deal with a world where money and results counts for everything. It is hard too say who`s better they all played/play in a different Utd-Team, different opponents and players have evolved so much over the last 3 dacades.. In my oppinion Schmeichel where the best in the world, matched only by a few like Buffon/Köpkee/Illgner and Kahn.

Pretty much everyone who says De gea on here has only seen him play. He’s right up there today, rightly so and probably second only behind Neuer and already near van der Sars level but Schmeichel was the best. Not only out of these three but the best the premier league has seen.
