Note that Dida/Julio Cesar's saves, although at earlier stages of the competition, were essential to their respective teams each reaching and winning the Champions League final. It's not just that, the balls back then weighed lots more than now, the pitches were rock hard (if you've fallen on frozen mud you know how hard it is) and the gloves were tiny to non existant
Exactly my point of view. But it's not only Yashin's cause. Zamora, Planička, Grosics... all these heroes from the pre-TV times will be known only from the legends, risen by these, who had been watching them live. We'll never be able to verify them... Of course, it's not only about goalkeepers, but all of positions.
Yashin, at least statistically was the best goalkeeper the world has ever seen. Pioneered in goalkeeping tactics and made goalkeeper into essentially what it is today.
I don't think any position in football is objectively hardest but keeping is a damn challenge. The pressure, the courage, I love watching great saves as much as goals
Jimmy Montgomery double save has always been my favourite of all time. Biggest game of his life, FA Cup Final at Wembley playing for a 2nd Division team against an outstanding Leeds team with most of the Country watching on TV. To produce that and Sunderland pull off the almighty upset to win doesn't get any better really.
All of these are TREMENDOUS saves! love em, each one of them. But the Chilavert one. Dayumn!! That ball was in an impossible angle for most goalkeepers, and the shooter was no other than Maradone him self. What a wonderful show of skill from both. My personal 2 favourite since ever are Lev Yashin and Claudio Bravo. Legends!
chilavert is in my opinion the greatest and most complete keeper of all time. Im Argentine and used to watch his club (velez) and Paraguay just to see him play. he isn't talked about in Europe so much because most of his career took place in South America. he not only saved goals but assited strikers (he could send the ball from goal to goal with precision), and he scored an insane amount of goals through free kicks and penalties, more than most strikers ever score. on top of that he was a natural a leader and intimidated his opponents.
One of my favorite saves is from stekelenburg in the world cup quarter final match between netherlands and brasil, with a shot from kaka. Brilliant shot and a brilliant save
Was a goalkeeper myself when I was younger. I wasn’t the best but I was good. A few championships were won with my gloves. Seeing this brings tears to my eyes. The greatest saves of all time right here. Thank you for this video
@@hameemgillani1540 oof.... Anyway, kasper is a great keeper and i know why you like him. Also what to expect from the other premier league goalkeepers...
The old saves are so much more impressive imo, the balls were a lot heavier so stuff like fingertip saves were impossible. Not discounting current keepers and saves but people need to realise, for me the best save was against Pele by Banks, insane save.
if i have to pick out on save only i have to say that the dudek save vs milan is - considering all the circumstances (CL Finale, being down 3:0 after minutes, in the 120th minute, vs one of the best strikers of that time, etc) - will be very unlikely be dethroned from #1 spot of my all time favourite saves. remembering watching it live still gives me goosebumps
Amazing selection. I think the Jimmy Montgomery one might always be my favourite. The goal seems so inevitable...The David Button one, new to me, looks absolutely impossible. And it's always good to see that wide angle of the Banks save, because it drives home how incredible it really is. Beyond the occasion, the player who heads it, and the mystique they've both acquired over the years is a simple, still-remarkable fact: as Pelé meets the ball, Banks has just started to go the wrong way.
Footballer: shoots penalty The ball hits the post and comes back Another footballer: shoots an amazing shoot to the upper left corner and is about to celebrate Pat Jennings: get Pat Jenningsed lol
Growing up I always regretted giving up my life as a midfielder for one of a GK. Now I look back and realize i cherished the good times and learned skills in the bad times. Also, that Dudek save vs Shevchenko in the UCL final is crazy lucky and probably my favorite haha
I have watched that movie and in the end i was only wonder what goalkeeper i miss in that 100...for sure Thomas Ravelli...great compilation by the way...my favorite is Dudek v Shevchenko in Stambul...great save in great moment of the game...

I seem to recall Drogba scoring the equaliser in the final and scoring the winning penalty. So Czech played a massive part but didn’t win it by himself
A neat party trick but never a best save. It wasn't even the first scorpion kick he did that night. He was practising them in the warm-ups before the game, which was a meaningless friendly early in the season at a very poorly attended Wembley.
