I just picked up a third one, just needed the float bowels from it, if you want one, I would sell this new one to ya, shoot me an email ChargerJezebel70@yahoo.com
The sleeve idea was good for us and bad for sales.... meaning you get different carbs for less. Long gone it seems are those days. You buy high priced junk more often than not sadly. That is a beautiful carburetor though.
You are 100% correct. But these were very expensive carbs back when they were new, so I'm sure the price of a new unit plus the price for replacement sleeves would have covered it all. With that said, I think we could perfect this design nowadays and it would be the best thing for us carb guys. But again, it makes no sense for the big business cats
@@ScottsSpeedShop I remember looking through jegs and drooling over the BG stuff lol. And I think you are 100% correct with the initial cost and also with what is available nowadays as far as machining goes. I've always been Holley but I have one from probably the 70s. Edelbrock looks like they have the new age 4150 and it looks really nice.
@Lee Sanders you and I are on the same page for sure man, I like edelbrocks vrs 4150. But I also don't think it's everything it's cracked up to be, especially when uou compare it to stuff like this carb
Once you see that almost every Holley carb has a nominal 5/16 smaller Venturi than throttle bore size, and that the ancient 1941 Axis of Evil Eduardo Weber carb Aero Engine port on port Venturi sizing was bang on, you can see that CFM guides and all those jet recommendations were just designed to keep Holley in pay. Barry Grant used the PMO carb Venturi size 📈 graph, and the idealized cc/min jet flow rate of 1/20 the of the Venturi size. Each of these he published; I still use them today. He overnight made Holley technically obsolete. Using Weber style signal and jetting with a simple Holley carb must have upset Holley almost as much as the Low Pressure Vacuum Injection 4bbl carb did. Barry Grant then got an offer he couldn't refuse....🥝✅
It's a shame his business went under, part of me still believes that his company was snuffed out by Holley, and they generated a lot of bad press to make sure his products were buried
Surprised you found those jed....yes indeed a very advanced carburator of it's day ....a hefty price too....more then any carb of it's day.... A collector's it will be.... I'm on the hunt....🙂👍🙏.....the video was cool...🤙
Well I got the one 4150 race barry grant and Dad sent me the ad for one of these and I found the other one. Now I just need to find float bowls for the one and more sleeves
I've had two Speed Demons and now have a 750 Screamin' Demon, love 'em. Apparently those who bought BG carbs did'nt dedicate tjme to get to know and tune them. Outlets like Summit who accept returns, took many back as 'faulty', but tested good. That resulted in them being sold as used by BG. That was why BG went under, apparently, can't substantiate that but that's what I read just before Holley bought him out.
Older Holleys are the best but the new ATM Innovation (Quickfuel actually) are even better. These BG carbs never really gained ground though many tried them. Sometimes things can be over engineered. I bought the first BG fuel pump when they first came out.. was on the Phone with Barry constantly and the pump was on a plane more then the racecar..we got it ironed out after a whole season of headaches. I ran a BG400 on my chevelle for the engine and a BG280 stand alone for the Nitrous. The 400 worked good but ate the motor in it a few times..was easy finding parts as everyone hated them and went to Magnafuels..I finally did too
These are the ultimate in tunable design, yes the 4 barrel fuel injection system is designed to get basic tune, but these BG carbs tuned to every parameter of your engine, will give you all the ketchup
@@ScottsSpeedShop I really appreciate it thank you, I may need to pick your brain. Building a low deck 500ci stroker was planning to run two of these on top of my Indy tunnel ram. Debating if I should sell one and my tunnel ram. I really want the Indy MW single plane for my tfs270s.
Dang 600 bucks for one carb about ten yrs ago,you have to want only the best for ur machine at them prices.i suppose you get what u pay for a great tunable carb, but wow not a cheap hobby at all!!looks mighty cold in ur studio, turn up the heater, love the blue anodized throat bodys!snooky pa.💥👍🌈👍💥
Well considering 600 bucks will hardly buy a new double pumper holley and this carb offers so much more. Most 4500 series carbs bring at a minimum 300 and that's for a plain Jane holley
Brings back memories, it's been awhile since I last own a Holly, seeing this vid makes me just want to buy one now, it may even encourage me to get another hot rod, great vid jed👍
I'll have to get me a Barry Grant 4150 for my next build. Thank you Jed....
Great video Jed. I didn't realize how advanced these carbs are. And like you said, superb machining.
They are a truly awesome carb
Those carbs are the coolest, I always wanted one of those

They are awesome carbs honestly, I’ve ran holleys and edelbrocks and had good luck with each. Thanks for the tutorial though keep up the good work.
Thanks for checking it out my friend
The Venturi’s in those things look like they belong on a shop vac 😊
Yeah they do lol

some how the music sounds like charlie brown. love those carbs
Kinda does, doesn't it lol
Yup, king demons perfected what the dominator should've been.
Couldn't agree more

I got a feeling that Holley just wanted to squash the competition.

Jed check out BLP carbs...Best in the Business....Barry Grant Carbs are decent
I looked them up, no pricing on their site is a bad sign, and I am not seeing much worth bragging about
I’m thinking maybe that aluminum super stock goes in the charger?
Yeah sorry, the video showing off the block got delayed

I definitely couldn't have said it better
I just picked up a brand new old stock paid of then with blue sleeves. I’d love for you to to an update on these

Had a BG demon 850 in the 90s it was super responsive on a 383 sbc with pro 1 aluminum heads 625 lift solid roller. Most responsive carb i ever had
It's truly tragic that his company went under
Great Video watching from Eastern North Carolina.
Only seen these in action. Never on a bench. Always wanted at least one. Thank you.
They are very cool carbs, very advanced for their time
I remember seeing them in magazines no internet then
I've been building demons 20 years. Still looking for another set of king demon gold and silver sleeves
I think I may have some extra now
Man that would be awesome if you did!!
Another good SSS vid.. smooth jazz and some old school moto art👊

Make carburetors great agine. Good campaign slogan. Jed for president of carburetors. Love your videos 📹 ❤️ 😍
I am all about innovation on carbs, it's a shame we actually went backwards
