- Robinah Nabbanja, Prime Minister and Leader of Government Business in Parliament of the Republic of Uganda, addresses the General Debate of the 79th Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations (New York, 24 - 30 September 2024).
World leaders gather to engage in the annual high-level General Debate under the theme, "Unity and diversity for advancing peace, sustainable development, and human dignity, everywhere and for all." Heads of State and Government and ministers will explore solutions to intertwined global challenges to advance peace, security, and sustainable development.
The UN General Assembly (UNGA) is the main policy-making organ of the Organization. Comprising all Member States, it provides a unique forum for multilateral discussion of the full spectrum of international issues covered by the Charter of the United Nations. Each of the 193 Member States of the United Nations has an equal vote.

This idea of Africa having a permanent seat in The UNSC while the crisis ridden Sudan, Somalia, Eritrea and Ethiopia stare African Union Leaders, Presidents and Heads of States in the face with the escalating human as well as material losses. Dubious behaviour spurred by foreign connivance as a result of greed for material and political power will continue to question the readiness of our leaders to handle the care that will stare them in the face when finaly they get this membership. The dynamics of access to information and transparency poses a greater threat as barriers seem less visible while visibility itself seem the more and more less visible. While all seem corrupt, not all corrupt will be condemned and most less corrupt would possibly be made scapegoats. Know your house, sweep it well, fence it well, learn the Maradona style before you invite them and accept their delicacies. Not every candy can be sweet and vice versa.

I may not fondly agree with the Uganda's development trajectory due to rampant corruption unabated and supported by the president, I like Nabbanja for being herself and stepping forwarded to be counted despite of all naysayers and the haters. The problems of Uganda are constitutionalized and skewered towards helping one person, the president.
