I had the same thought. Actually, with only a minute or so remaining, I paused the video just to see what the comments are saying. People say a lot of things about Jimmy but when he's on point like this, he's incredible. Not classy like Conan, not secretly angry like Letterman, not diplomatic like Seth Meyers, but very banter-y (which can be dangerous -- he even annoyed Fred Armison by being too relaxed), but this is still *superior* in every way to Jay Leno, who just grinds every gear the wrong way, imho.

It's because Phoenix sees right through that shit, and that's what usually creates the really extremely awkward interviews that a vast majority of the time Phoenix has because of his...personality. Fallon picked the right method to navigate this interview, by being "real" with him. Phoenix is a very difficult interview task, you have to admit.
This played out so much better than it did with Kimmel.
Joaquin is really really handsome, he was actually really beautiful as the joker, he didn’t just perfected his persona but also he gave the character rare beauty.
