      Right? It seems to me that when directors talk about the behind the scenes, and how they put the movie together, they most of the time only talk about the special effects and all. It’s refreshing to hear a director not only talk about the special effects, but also the reason behind the scene, what the character is supposed to be feeling in the moment, and even giving props to the stunt double. I commented this on his last Instagram post. I hope he sees it so he can continue to do projects like this.

Walk the Line, We Own the Night, Gladiator, The Yards, Two Lovers, Her, The Master or now Joker. Amazing actor that has still many astonishing things to provide us with and that's great news.

The movies that try to portray real people like Walk the line always let me down because I always have the image of the real person it's about in my mind and never completely fall into the movie. With that said I still think it was a good movie and I think Joaquim Phoenix is a great actor. I think he better in that role then say Tom Hanks in his role as Mr. Rodgers!!!

      In a comment i saw in other video, in the end the Joker in this movie is all that (" a killer, a terrorist, an evil entity"). The thing is that we only saw the vision of the Joker about his life. So, in a way, we became this movie´s Harley Quinn. Joker, somehow, create this "image" of himself being just a victim of a corrupt system, were bullys and injustice are the everyday sandwich. And, we fall for that. We all just connect with him and actually believe what you just said ("he is just the result of a failing society")
      In the end, Joker´s manipulates the audience just as he does in the comics.

    I’m so happy I heard him talk about Joaquin’s “run” because he did have a very specific run that was super unique and showed even more character depth. It’s really geeky and awkward and worked so well for the character. I loved this movie
    Edit: Joaquins take on the jokers run with AND without the big clown shoes was very unique to me the whole movie. I feel like even when he didn’t have the shoes on he still ran very comically. Certainly not an athlete, and it fit so well. Oscar, please!!!

  • @happyme595
    @happyme595 4 ปีที่แล้ว +44

    This is so interesting! But even rewatching that it pains me so much to see such inequality and harm being done to someone who already has a broken soul. It shakes me to my core and almost makes me cry and the whole entire time I was watching the movie, I just felt like I wanted to help him so he can feel better and not be mistreated so badly by society and pretty much everyone around him. This is why this movie is so unsettling in a way because everyone's sense of justice kicks in but when you think it can't get worse for Arthur he finds out his adoptive mother abused him and I think that's where it's the end of Arthur and beginning of Joker. Because finding out his mum, the person that he probably loves most, isn't his real mum and then abused him on top of that, that ultimately broke him, understandably. So, I completely understand why he turns out the way he is with becoming Joker but then unsettling for the viewer again is that he starts to kill people, which is highly unsettling because it is morally wrong. And I think this is the reason why this movie stays in our minds for so long because we're trying to balance the injustice done to him and his ultimate reaction to it.

    • @burnerdaughter
      @burnerdaughter 4 ปีที่แล้ว +242

      @@manee9110 Well, Joaquin Phoenix's Joker run is sort of haphazard; contrast that with the way an action hero typically runs in a straight, focused way. When you're forced to sprint, are your movements controlled? Desperate? Smooth? Graceful? Fierce? If Phoenix ran like an Olympic sprinter you'd feel a lot less sorry for him; his movements speak to his lifestyle and state of mind.

      I think he is referring to something that is a big movie, an actual blockbuster but still pure cinema, as in top notch breathtaking acting, photography and emotional impact. And I agree with him there. It's been a long time since a movie like that has been released. In the 90ies and before that it was a more regular thing when those kind of high quality movies that left you rattled and thinking about them for weeks were also blockbusters. Frankly, nowadays most movies don't leave an impression on me. I watch them and sometimes I realize the next day that I didn't even think about them at all the previous evening.
