Wilson Combat 3rd BCG "Out of Spec" Ejection Spring!

- I was willing to give them a pass on the first one but I think Wilson Combat has a widespread problem with their supplier and in-house QC! These WC BCG's that I have seem to be machined and finished decent enough with some weak staking on one of them but other than that it's the ejection springs that are the problem! I have a number of older WC BCG's purchased prior to these one's that are working fine. This has been my experience with the last three purchased over the last year and half!
Good morning Pete!
So far! Lol! Hope your's has started off well!
I watched your video then decided that perhaps someone (me) should inform Wilson of this problem/s. (I referred them to your TH-cam channel) If they have any interest at all in keeping their products' rep "up-to-par", they WOULD like to know...as most merchants would. Good call!!

I thought about contacting them but how would they reach out to who knows how many potential bad ejector spring owners? Suppose they could self recall with a notice on their web site. Maybe offer anyone new ejector springs with some form of proof they actually own a WC? I'm sure they would fix them if returned but I don't think many would because it's about a two minute fix. Maybe at the bare minimum they could own it and let people know there may be a problem and also inspect what they have in-house as well as notify all of their retailers? What would the time frame of ownership or rounds fired be? I don't know?
Great programs ,Pete!
Much appreciated Dave! Thanks!
I’m very disappointed WC. Now I’m going to have to brake mine down and ck it. Thanks for sharing.
For now it's just been the ejector springs and hopefully nothing else! Still shouldn't be! Thanks Brant!
Well, at least the box Wilson took those springs out of was labeled correctly.
It's a very nice box! They used to come in a thick zip lock with a brochure stuffed inside so the box is a huge quality improvement!
On the other hand, WC isn't making BCG's for the Marines. There's no need for them to follow mil-spec. Be interesting to see their response.
Interesting series.
I guess a case could be made for that with one exception... they don't work right the way they are. With the correct Sprinco 27 coils at .926" or just slightly longer all the ejection issues disappeared. Yes! I hope they are watching. Also, recently had some issues on two 308 Tactical Hunter barrels that I purchased from them six months apart for a couple of LR308's that I put together. Gas ports full of debris and the inside of the hole not cleanly drilled. Had to use a bare ended cleaning rod from the muzzle and chamber directions back and forth repeated to remove the left overs. I'm sure the first couple of rounds would have broke them loose but I was concerned about barrel damage doing it that way. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Just curious, do you re-use the ejector roll pin? I heard from many that they are a 'one-and-done' use.
Because these were brand new for the most part and mostly under 20 rounds of use they showed no signs of wear and went back in snug. I got them out with no damage and hardly even had any shiny metal showing. I reused them. I have taken other bolts apart with higher round counts and there was noticeable wear on the pin from plunger movement rubbing against the pin. The ones I removed were all split roll pins. I would not have reused the spiral or coil type as they usually get damaged on the way out. Don't be like me! Lol! Use new pins! Thanks Malcolm!

Give Bravo Company a try, a lot of pro's use them. They make their own bolts and to exacting QC.
I didn't know they started making their own? I've heard very few complaints about them! They always seem to work! Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@peteregger7928 Yes, they've always made them but there are those who insist that they do not. Even though there videos of them milling, assembling and testing them.
Each bolt is tested individually, Not batch tested. They are both High Pressure tested as well as MPI both before and after test firing.
@@TACNERD1 Good to know! Thanks!
Just a gunless Australian here getting a good laugh out of how a company can do zero quality checking on a part meant for a firearm. I mean, how hard is it to get the correct amount of coils on a spring? For 3 to be out of spec like that is an obvious indicator that an entire batch got made incorrectly and most likely all of them got shipped. More evidence that no quality assurance exists in this company. Entire batches of faulty products should never make it out of the door like that..
There's a comment saying they don't need to follow milspec guidelines, I mean I have no clue but I would assume that they still need to produce a working part...Isn't there consumer laws? I can imagine a lot of people buy aftermarket parts, install them into their home defense firearms, test it a few times and call it good. Imagine having a failure to eject in a critical situation because your great American company outsourced to China, did no QA and then said "well we don't follow milspec guidelines".
Hope to see this situation evolve. This could make or break the company, especially in 2024.
Unfortunately it's not just the firearms industry here in the U.S.! It's everything now! As you're saying when it comes to firearms it has to be right or results can be disastrous! I had a great time in Perth and Fremantle when I was there! Don't think I paid for a single beer! Have a good one "Down Under"! I believe it's still your winter time!
Good morning, Pete. You're good at diagnosing AR problems for sure. I like your videos better every time I watch a new one. I' m going to start calling you Dr. Egger, or perhaps Dr. Pete! Just wanted to say I Like your Savior American Classic Double Rifle Case in the ODG color, at least I think that's the case I see there. I have the same case, except in black. I opted for the 42" version so when I build my A1 or A2 20" AR I can carry both my carbine and a full length AR in it. I looked at PSA's Savior cases, but they only offered the 36" model, then Our Lok-Tite friend's website, LOL, and then Brownells. Both of them offered various lengths, but Brownells shipping charges were quite a bit less. Thanks for another excellent video, Pete, and have a great day.
I think for some manufacturers I'm probably called Dr Doom! Lol! Some of them may have a picture of me up on the wall at their meeting rooms similar to what you see at the Post Office! I have quite a few Savior American Classic bags. They are good quality and hard to beat for the money. My other ones are gray or black. Wasn't sure about the OD but I like it! Thanks again John for stopping by!
@@peteregger7928 Haha! I like Dr. Doom. Yea, probably have a bounty on you! you're on WC's 10 most wanted now!
@@John-zf5wc I know right! Lol!
I counted 27 on both but the WC is definitely collapsed or shorter. Just wondering did you get a good deal on the Wilson BCG's or why do you buy Wilson ?
I counted 25 full or what are called "active" coils on this one. Maybe I did miscount but I was trying to be very careful that I got it right. I've had some bad luck with Aero Precision and ToolCraft in the past so started using WC a couple of years ago. My older ones are running fine it's just been these last three purchased. The most recent purchase was $159 from Primary Arms but the other two were $180 purchased directly from WC.
@@peteregger7928 any plans to check the ejector spring in one of your older WC BCGs?
@@ar-15techtipsinunder5minut8 The older ones are working but I'm thinking it may be a good idea to take a look! I only have one new ejector spring left so I'll order some more!
Hey Pete Good Evening 😀😊 Glad You and AR Tips Verified That Wilson Combat screwed Up on The Non 27 Coil Spring 😊😊😀 Did You Pull Your Selector Spring Yet Too See If There 27 Coils Also
I used the Geissele ambidextrous selector that came with its own spring. Selector feels good so I guess it's okay? Not sure how many coils?
JP BCG the gold standard even some of your high end barrel makers will only guarantee head space on a JP bolt.
My list of don't use again keeps growing! If WC cared about QC as much as they do the money... well that's probably not going to happen!
Just wow!!
I know right! You would think one of them would have been in spec for no other reason than by accident! WC has beat the odds!
@@peteregger7928 everything is changing for the worse, and nothing is being made to last either. 😶
@@hybridmusclegarage4590 Fact!
Does Wilson Combat advertise these as Mil Spec?
Yes! They do! BOLT CARRIER ASSEMBLY, AR-15/M16, 5.56 NATO, AUTO, MIL-SPEC, BLACK PHOSPHATE
Wilson uses cheap commercial small parts for their AR’s just like A LOT of lower end companies do. Sad to say.
It sure is looking that way on my end! Thanks for watching and commenting!
I counted 27 there, just saying
Full "active" coils? Lol!
This is nonsense! I have bought a lot of parts from WC for my 1911s and was always very satisfied. I haven't bought any AR parts from them. Very disappointing.
Three strikes and you're out! I won't be buying anymore even though the rest of the BCG's machining seems to be okay. More than annoying! If they see these videos I wonder if they will do anything about it? They are not exactly budget friendly either!
I won't be buying any Wilson Combat AR parts. Thanks for the info.
So far it's only been the ejector springs and the rest of the BCG's look okay. I guess time will tell how well they hold up otherwise. Not making excuses for WC but with that said I won't be buying anymore!
Wilson has been relying on their name for quite a while now.
But they have been going down hill for awhile they need better Engineers and quality control, not fancy box designers..
He was one of the "go to" for 1911's! I had some issues with two WC Tactical Hunter 308 barrels as well! Often times it seems that companies at some point become victims of their own success! The other thing I see time and time again is the business gets handed down to a younger family member and it doesn't take long!
Wc used to stand for Wilson combat now it's Wilson Chinese.lol
Ha! Ha! Maybe just the box is U.S. made! Lol! I have a few older WC's prior to these and they are working but I'm considering taking those apart too!
what wilson the overpriced guns out of spc....
More than once! lol!
Here’s an idea, stop buying Wilson Combat crap!
Didn't know they had issues until after they were purchased and just started using all three of them. The two older ones in these videos were originally purchased as spares. I'm only 68, purchased my first AR in 1989 and I'm retired military so I know nothing!
@@peteregger7928 There’s a reason why you don’t see a single Law Enforcement Agency signing a contract with Wilson Combat. They are hobby guns at best. I wouldn’t bet my life on their finest finished product.
