Thanks for making firearms ownership feel welcoming. There’s a lot of snobs and judgmental people online and in gun stores, in my experience, and I appreciate your commitment to reviews that are honest and as unbiased as possible for someone with a preference for Glocks. I don’t think I’d buy a firearm if it hasn’t been reviewed by you.

I have a safe full of firearms, but cant believe I slept on this one so long. Picked the Shield up many times at the gun store but never bought one. I guess too much competition in the 9mm category. After I finally decided to give 40 a try I went in on the Performance Center version of this. Now I am kicking myself for waiting so long. Lots of nice little extras I hadnt realized before. Ranging from the sights, to the porting, to the slightly better trigger, to the metal guide rod, and even a quality travel size cleaning kit in a case. Details matter. Digging it!

I hope they make a Shield + in 45, even if it was only two more rounds over the 2.0. It would pretty much be my ideal CC gun at that point,, the 6/7+1 that the 2.0 has in a single stack is just a little too few for me to completely satisfied with it. Getting it up to 8/9 even at the expense of a fatter grip (not a big deal to me) would be excellent.

I purchased a Performance Center Shield Plus 4" barrel last Sat. Took it home and cleaned it, get all the extra oil off that it is shipped with as I do on all new pistols I purchase. I oiled back like manual said. Next day Sunday, I took it to the range. I had 13 failures to fire out of 160 rounds with 5 different types ammo. you could see where firing pin hit the bullets but no bang. I have owned many Smith & Wesson hand guns through my life, 3 of witch are shields. Never a problem, very disappointed, this is the most costly of all the ones I have purchased. I took it back to where i purchased and they are sending it back to Smith and Wesson.

The model I'm getting also has the CT red dot sight as well as the fiber optic sights. Just bought mine last night. Performance Center with night sights, 4" barrel and optic ready slide. Only $632 shipped!
You can keep the ported barrel, it's far more trouble than it's worth: Much louder gun, dirtier gun, covers the front sight in grime, debris/gases in the face, lowered velocity (gas escapes from behind the bullet), lowered accuracy, low light distraction when firing (much bigger fireball in the face). Ports are WAY, WAYYYYY overrated.

Based on many positive reviews (should have searched negative reviews too) of the S&W SPPC, I purchased the 3.1"-barrel model. I typically do not write negative comments, but I must have received a lemon. Issues include both the 10 and 13 round magazines not accepting maximum round count, take down lever so tight that it cannot be operated without using a device to help rotate it, the slide lock will not release the slide using your thumb with or without a loaded magazine, with an empty magazine the slide will not move completely forward until the trigger is pulled. I can more than likely correct everything mentioned above. The reason for this negative comment is the fact that after being contacted multiple times Smith and Wesson has yet to offer any corrective actions. When speaking with the rep(s) on the phone you could tell they wasn't concerned about helping with the issues. So, this will be my last S&W product. When I get these issues corrected it will be put up for sale.

I'm with you on the shield plus mags not taking full capacity, and the slide lock release not releasing without placing back oressure on the slide with your other hand. Very frustrating. A Hogue beaver tail slip-on grip (Amazon about $15) was a solid investment on my original M&P Shield Performance Center 9mm, in helping to get more grip in-hand to assist (slightly) with minimizing pull. Am going to upgrade to a baseline Shield Plus tomorrow that’s on sale at Bass Pro for $499, thanks to Hickok’s insight on the porting not making that much of a difference. May swap sights (new one will have white dots) before reselling my old Performance Center Shield. Am sure the Hogue grip will be easy enough to port over as well given it only needs to stretch a whole tenth of an inch on the new Shield Plus. Thanks as always Hickok45 for your superior performance reviews, greatly appreciated!

Bit of a negative experience I had with an M&P9. My first handgun was a special package from the store; dark earth colors, raised tritium sights. Thought it looked amazing and it wasn't expensive.
I was new to shooting so I thought my accuracy was gonna be pretty terrible (and it was), but the thing I didn't catch onto right away was that the front sight post was wandering to the left with the vibration and heat. I had a gunsmith look at what was going on and he took the brass punch to the front sight post and got everything relatively zeroed in for me. Took it to the range again and actually did okay with the first few magazines...and she started to go to the left again.
I ended up selling it back to the store as they felt there wasn't anything that could be done to fix the sight post issue as it was, and I ended up with a Canadian edition SP-01 Shadow instead and have been a CZ fan ever since.
Glad to see hickok having a blast with the Shield. You are an amazing content creator and youtube would be hollow without you.

For hands on the smaller side the trigger may not work from you unless you change the way you are taught to hold the grip. For my wife her finger rest on the top part of the trigger and she has to really angle her finger down in order for it to not lock up the trigger. This kind of throws off her shots. Just a bit of forewarning for people with really small hands.
You can fix it by switching out the trigger for the old 2.0 hinged trigger.
