Currently have the same watch the 140th edition and the last diver I had was a Tudor Pelagos. This watch at the price point it is up to par with the Tudor that is 4 times the price. Mine does not have the issues you mentioned maybe if it did I would feel different. Having handled a fair share of watches this ranks up there.
I was thinking what should they do...slow down production. = less sales... or invest in more high precision machines = more cost and therefore less sales. or continue and get slightly less sales. lol
yes i have a spare OEM dial. i did the swap already. so its a 143 with a 149 dial. so no gold seconds hand. looks cleannnnn tho! i sold my real 149 a while ago. anything that has to do with printing usually has a high chance of alignment issues lol. especially with seiko
Very nice review! I bought mine about a month ago, but mine doesn't perform as well as yours, I gain about 45s/day which is out of specs, should I be concerned? How about yours now?
Guess I should count my blessings that the only thing I don't like with my spb143/sbdc101 is that it runs about 12 secs fast per day. Love the grey/blue strap... is that the Anthracite Tropic or some other brand?
Strapcode bracelets and Marine Master clasps were made for each other. If those clasps came in 20mm, they could be used with the original 22mm Seiko bracelets.
true! however, the diashield coating never matches the steel 100% and it bugs me. some can't see it but I do. mm200 is a good example of it with strapcodes.
@@EscapementWatch I didn't like that poor extension on my turtle, but as there is no way to remove it, I just instead grabbed a clasp of the same finish and design, without the extension, for about $22. The original bracelet can be used then.

Great video! think 62maX is a better nickname. Most watches with a previous version than now comes with the Prospex logo is usually renamed with an X at the end, such as Willard X and the Alpinex.
I bought a SLA017J1, an expensive purchase giving the fact that the bezel didn’t align with the 12! Being slightly OCD once I found this I had to let it go! 4K, not worth jack, when Seiko still can’t get the alignment right! Seiko really need to improve their product if they want enthusiasts to continue to purchase their product !
Jeez, I know there's a tolerance allowed with QC but damn, how the F did that watch pass QA?? I love Seiko but hearing the problems this watch had really bothered me.
As for me at the present stage, Seiko has made too many quality mishaps to buy this watch in an online store without any problems. Thx for your honest review.
Yes I swapped the dial yesterday with the 149 dial from my mod watch. It has 2 specs that can only be seen under macro defects but chapter is perfect. Which is important to me
It's almost as nice as the San Martin. Just a pity the Seiko QC can't match it :-D + you get much more boxing of the sapphire, fully lumed ceramic, signed crown and excellent bracelet.
I suggest you try the tropic straps by seacult, made in Italy with real quality rubber. better made than the "original" tropic straps. seacult straps are more faithful replicas of vintage tropics. congratulations for the channel, great videos
I can only agree with you on the design and wearability of the SPB14xJ1 series. Perfect. Just like the original new rubber straps. I have now added mine from the SPB153J1 to my 6105 8110. Just awesome. No problem because of the 20mm width, fits perfectly. I have now ordered another one to complete my green Willard again. Good luck on your dial issue 😉
I going to say its the History and Legacy Seiko Brings is so alluring. Plus great style. Nothing looks like a seiko. It just has it! But I get your point. Seiko does get better tho... I've seen the new 40mm skx with better QC but they do things ultra slowly to improve. SKX original 1 pin for chapter ring. new 40mm skx style watch...20 years later 2 pins so it wont slide around as much and have better alignment is one example lol. hopefully they react quicker with these new 2020 releases in the fixes to the manufacturing. feels like we are in BETA with these still and seikos just pumping them out and seeing what comes out.
Great video, FT. Don't replace the original dial - my 2 cents : ) Unfortunately, we Seiko fans have gotten used to the QC issues now. Now the question - out of the three 63MAS watches that you've reviewed, which is your favourite?
ahhhh so tough man I like them all for different reasons. but the 143 probably my fav because it has the 62mas original dial color. I'm still 50/50 on replacing dial. its hardly noticable at 1ft away but i'm a perfectionist. hope my new seiko is much better coming in a couple weeks.
I like both styles videos. It does shock me that they can get away with so many flaws for $1200. It makes me think that maybe a lot of the people who buy them don't pay that much attention?
seiko mentioned to me 1 foot away for qc for all seikos. only Grand seiko gets crazy attention by humans to fix issues. so 12 inchs away it always looks great and passes QC. but with these videos we do MACRO and find all flaws easily!
@@EscapementWatch it's a good point. I was talking with Bruce Willams about that very point. We are now so used to seeing 4K macro shots of watches on TH-cam now that any flaws that you'd never notice at all are now on full display for us geeks
their qc has been improving lately I've noticed with the last 5 new releases I got in. I think with the new tortoise they may have improved their manufacturing process. Big news if true! Only time will tell.
I like this style a lot more than the desk style reviews! I can now match your tone of voice with your expression! Great reviews thanks!
Glad you like it! I wont be doing this style often. only now and then. But thanks for the feedback!
I have the SPB149. Everytime i open my watch case, i just love the look of it. No regrets in getting it.
As soon as Seiko discontinues this model, this will be an instant classic
I don't doubt it!
I just purchased this model in Jan 2023 at about US $950 and it is perfect. Maybe all QC issues are now in the past, at least for this range.
do you recommend bringing in a magnifying glass to help check the watch before I buy it at my local AD?
If your eye can't see it then your good. Just check it well.
I love my 143 on the black Isofrane.

If they keep selling, QC issues will never change

Great content, shame about the QC issues. I wouldn't replace the dial though, but just learn to live with it.
Truth on all aspects! Great watch nut slow down Seiko for better QC!
Back with the blue dial! If you still have the watch.. Seiko baffle me with how many ways they can misalign stuff..

go to service

yeah turtle has no dia-shield coating. maybe the king turtles do. ive never held one yet
@@EscapementWatch I don't believe they do. I've never seen a dia-shield coated watch in person, myself.

Where did you learn how to regulate a watch? What basic tools do you need?
There is a video on the channel where I regulate a Seiko movement
I just ordered one. Def going to have to pick up a grey tropic strap too, that looks incredible.
Grats! And yes it's a great look
Having seen and tried all three variants, which one do you think is the watch to get?
tough. I'd say 143
Great video! think 62maX is a better nickname. Most watches with a previous version than now comes with the Prospex logo is usually renamed with an X at the end, such as Willard X and the Alpinex.
Thanks for sharing! the 63 refers to the 6r35a first 2 numbers. just like original 6217
Hi i saw on your other video that you replaced the dial on this watch. Do you still have the misaligned dial? Do you plan on selling it? Thanks
No, sorry i sold it long ago to pay for the 149 dial.
@@EscapementWatch no worries. Keep up the content. Love your work. Sucks that seiko has new mm200 now in green base on the pic you posted
Great video, thanks! I wanna do the same thing you mention: Where can I buy the original 147 black silicone strap? Do you know the seiko part number?
Strap is hard to get. Seiko AD and it usually takes months unless they have it in stock. Part# R03E011J0
@@EscapementWatch Thank you !
Hear my story of my birthday gift watch. Oct 26th! It came with a few flaws but we fixed them ALL! EXCEPT 1!
I prefer the DESK STYLE ! Great work mate.
desk style will be 90% of the time. this new style 10% i'm guessing
i CANT believe Seiko managed to misallign this one

The problem is that bezel alignment is apparently hard with most companies.. I have a Blancpain and Rolex both with misaligned bezels..
@@berserkkw I have handled misaligned subs from the ad. Loads of Tudor as well and some omegas .
Jeez, I know there's a tolerance allowed with QC but damn, how the F did that watch pass QA?? I love Seiko but hearing the problems this watch had really bothered me.
I know it is frustrating! my spb149 had everything perfect on it tho. except the bezel insert lume pip which didn't bug me.
Qc problems are why I’ve given up on Seiko. I’ve moved on to better brands and have no regrets.
As for me at the present stage, Seiko has made too many quality mishaps to buy this watch in an online store without any problems. Thx for your honest review.
Understood! thanks for watching!
I never was a big Seiko fan but at this point I wouldn't even consider them at any price point with all their QC issues.
I Love the Look from the SPB 149
how to unsee that chapter ring, now I'm nervous when my spb143 will arrive to my hands
Yes I swapped the dial yesterday with the 149 dial from my mod watch. It has 2 specs that can only be seen under macro defects but chapter is perfect. Which is important to me
Where is that strap from?
Tropic watch straps. I did a video on them. discount code in description or video
@@EscapementWatch you're awesome! I'll definitely check them out 😉
Is it the Anthracite colour? Trying to see how it looks with the grey dial before I order.

tropic strap the original company.
clasp is stamped not milled. the arms are milled,
