      Thanks Carol, 🙂
They are loving having the covers off, even if it's just for a few hours on a warmer day 😊

I'll be popping a quick video of the fish today too, as I had the covers off for a bit. 🙂

Great update dave 👍 love your filter house very smart and organised 👍 just bear in mind if your constantly adding dechlorinator in the pond that may affect any treatments or other chemicals you need to add to the pond 👍

      Thanks, 👍
Yes mate good point, the Sodium Thiosulfate in the Dechlorinator will counteract PP, or CT as an oxidiser added as treatment.👍

Cracking job👍. Loving the capture of all those stats, I’ve got all mine on the pc 😊👍. Looking forward to the upgrades👍. I need to get myself an automatic doser so will be interested in seeing how your set up works🤔. My TDS is down from 340 to 130, my ph is down from 7.7 to 7.2 and KH is down from 7.2 to 3.8 degrees. Keep up the good work👍😊

      Cheers Phil, 👍
I've been running the doser with just plain water atm, to test it out as it's second hand even though it hasn't been used...
One of the pump heads needed the santoprene tube sorting as the rollers weren't straight. but it is a simple job to do.
I had to do a couple of simple modifications to the set up, as the Jebao dosers have a couple of small flaws.
Yes fish are much happier again now, the parameters are better with lower TDS and pH.
I wanted to have the new membranes and pump up and running by now...
but guess i'll just have to wait until the parts come in...just the motor from Italy now...😃

A doser is an easier add on if you've run a reef tank before.
Just have to be mindful with the bulk concentrations, so if anything mechanical does go wrong you don't kill the whole pond.

What fittings have you used please with the pipe into the containers from the dosing pump?
Agree with dechlor as it takes out copper etc as well, carbon cannot do that, love to know what’s in the 3rd container 😜

    • @DavesKoiPond
      @DavesKoiPond  ปีที่แล้ว

1/4" RO push fit fittings from the dosing containers.🙂
I'll be doing a video showing the dosing setup and pitfalls.
Turns out not all dechlorinator liquids fully detoxify metals.
      The kusuri dechlorinator for one.
The only component Sodium Thiosulfate. doesn't detoxify metals very well, and actually makes zinc more toxic.
It takes a dechlorinator with an additional chemical, EDTA tetrasodium salt. Which fully detoxify copper, zinc, and lead.👍
the 3rd container will have a few different uses and will change depending on time of year 😉

@@DavesKoiPond thanks been looking for something that clears all, which do you use? Also with recycled RO I have a cartridge with filter floss, removes a lot of rubbish before the paper filters and cheap/easy to change, my paper filters are lasting 3 times longer.

      @@garychallinor6404 Yes mate, 🙂
I used a DIY filter floss cartridge when I started RRO a year ago with just a 10" 3 pod in this video here @1:23 in... th-cam.com/video/6HVb6PJY-yI/w-d-xo.html
the 20" 3 pod i'm running atm has a 50 micron borosilicate fibreglass pleated filter before the paper filters,
it has a much higher open structure,(the fibre strands are thinner and stronger than stander pleated filters)
it's more pourous and has layered depth filtration as well.
It stops 95% of the crap before it gets to the standard 20 micron and 5 micron pleated filters and doesn't block easily. 👍

@@DavesKoiPond thanks I’ll look into getting one to put in front of mine, where do you get yours from?
Which dechlor do you use, I recently just make mine from sodium thiosulphate crystals?

Checking on the Internet found your discussion on koi forum really Interesting topic, I live in Stoke On Trent, my tap water is terrible plus it changes depending on where Sever Trent get it, two sources bore holes and reservoirs.

Good update Dave, do you find your RO production increases much with pond temp rises?

    • @DavesKoiPond
      @DavesKoiPond  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Marek, 🙂
Yeah membranes will produce more as the pond warms up, 25C is the nominal temperature for the stated GPD of the membrane.
But also as the TDS comes down I find i see a small increase in production. 👍

@@DavesKoiPond Brilliant idea, dosing de chlorinator, I had loads of problems in summer with chloromines getting through big blue and that was with new catylitic carbon, I've got a couple of dosers left over from my reef tank, so another one of your idea's I need to think about 👍

    • @DavesKoiPond

      @@marekskoipond9083
      I never thought i'd need dechlorinator with 3 x big blues! 😮
I have activated carbon in the first one, then catalytic carbon in the second, then bone char in the third...
But I was getting fed up with restratifying them when I get a low level of chlorine breaking though after a couple of weeks.
I've noticed an improvement in thier behaviour since manually adding Dechlorinator, even though the reading on the hannah ULR total chlorine is zero ppb for the pond...
so something is getting through.... trihalomethanes, or metals.... reckon i'd be better off trickling sewer water than tap water into the pond lol! 😂
