This is great documentary series. I learn many interesting things about history of Islam. However i like to make some suggestion. 1. Due to complicated map of the middle east as there are many small regions, It take more time for a person to understand what is going on and where?. Maps should be used while talking about movement, regions, places of battles. Which will provide more pictorial view to the viewer. Though sometimes maps are shown but sometimes it felt to be required. 2. Some of the rituals and terms used in this documentary are used directly from Quran or used by Islam (i.e. War Booty etc ). I came across these terms for the first time, so i had to go to Wikipedia to understand that term or ritual. These terms and rituals should be explained in documentary itself, so any person who is not having Islamic background can understand it very well.
Just one thing I have to told you if Allmighty want Allmighty will stublish personal statue of Allmighty on earth but no proof of that with respect every religion has its own statue of its own god. But we give sejda to unseen God .Its time to choose and think, which path is true

Sammy Rich We will undoubtedly unite one day under the banner of the Mahdi. However, the Shia in modern times have strayed far away from the true path. Over the years they become more pagan in beliefs. As long as their Shia leaders are still there spreading lies and creating bid'ah, there is no saving them unless they truly understand the Quran and not the lies of their leaders.

One correction: the report about Ali Ibn Abi Talib refusing to pledge allegiance to Abu Bakr As-siddiq is a baseless fabrication. It's based on narrations that are at best weak and devoid of any substance. Ali, may allaah be pleased with him, gave his allegiance to Abu Bakr as did all other Companions in Madinah who had selected him unanimously. Refer to The Biography of Abu Bakr As-Siddeeq by Dr. Ali Muhammad As-sallabee. Page no. 237. There are numerous authentic Hadeeth narrated which further substantiate this fact. The Noble companions were far removed from usurping anyone's rights let alone the right of Caliphate itself. May Allaah guide us.
This video is certainly Christian or atheist made. It speaks about Muhammad SAW as just a leader and suggests the definition of a caliph as "a successor". Muhammad SAW is a prophet and messenger in Islam and He is not to be referred as just a leader of a nation in order for the definition of a caliph to spring up in that way. A pure rejection of faith might have inspired this video. The so called calm tone of this video goes against the nature of truth.
@@rangergxi Caliph is not a successor to Muhammad. A heavily fallacious and wrong idea of caliph. A misguided usage of the terminology. Don't watch this video if you want to retain true concepts in that caliphate is completely distinct of Muhammad and "aren't" his successors. Muhammad is the last prophet and messenger sent to humanity by Allah. The penultimate was Isa ibn Maryam and there had been several prophets and messenger throughout human history.

For the 3rd caliph election, Hazrat Ali voted Hazrat Usman and Hazrat Usman voted Hazrat Ali as the elected caliph. Islam means peace. No exaggeration of happiness, no exaggeration of sadness. Prophet never hated anyone. Never hate the 4 caliphs, they are Allah's chosen. They sacrificed alot for Islam. And contributed to the spread of Islam
Allah has put forward the criteria for leadership in the Holy Quran 2:247: "He said: “Allah has chosen him (Talut) over you and has endowed him abundantly with both intellectual and physical capacities." Allah the Most Exalted has endowed Imam Ali (A:) abundantly with both intellectual and physical capacities. Imam Ali (A:) was the most intellectual man among the Holy Prophet (S:)'s Ummah since He (S:) said " I am the city of knowledge and Ali is it’s gate"- Tirmidhi. And Imam Ali (A:)'s greatness in physical capabilities was proven in the multiple battles and specially in the Battles of Khandaq and Khaybar. Neither Abu Bakr nor Umar dared to take up the challenge put forward by Amr Bin Al-Wud in the Battle of Khandaq and both lost in the Battle of Khaybar but Imam Ali (A:) bought victory in both the cases.
It's biased for real brother like they haven't mentioned anything good accomplished by Abu Bakr RA or Omar RA, at the time of Omar RA Persia and Jerusalem and Egypt was opened.... These rafidahs shia take everything as a granted and they don't show gratitude instead they curse them and wallahi curse these who curse the companions of the Prophet and the ones that says astaghfurllah "labaika ya ali and hussain". May allah have mercy on both Ali RA and Hussain RA and punish these rafidahs.

@@zeinobees2495 no there’s a hadith where the prophet saids one of the signs of the day of judgment is that there buildings will rise taller than the mountains of mecca.
An interesting and informative documentary. It certainly is a history soaked in blood, and as one of the commentators said,..."is politics cloaked in religion". I too look forward to part 3.
When the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was returning from Hajj to Makkah with one hundred thousand pilgrims, he stopped at a place called Ghadeer Kham and did not speak at that time, but he (peace be upon him) said: Wait for those who have remained behind at this place i.e. Ghadir Kham and call them back who have gone beyond it and all the pilgrims have gathered. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) made Imam Ali (peace be upon him) sit on a throne and standing up he held the hand of Imam Ali (peace be upon him) and said: 14:36 O people of Whom so ever I(PBUH) had been master Ali a.s here is to be his master O Allah be a supporter of who ever supports him and an enemy of whoever opposes him And divert the truth to Ali a.s And after that people congratulated Imam Ali (peace be upon him). But after the death of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), people became hypocritical did not follow what Prophet(PBUH) had said in Ghadeer Khoom, but the people chose someone else as their leader. And left Imam Ali (peace be upon him) alone
At this point it doesnt matter who succeeded who. Ali would have never approved of the way the shia worship him and his family as if they were gods. I agree Ali should have been the first Calipha however I will never pray to Ali or his family.
Pray to Ali? Omg you guys don't even know the basics of Shiat e Ali (as.) If the Shia pray to Ali then they are completely destroying and invalidating the whole base on why Mawla Ali, Imam Hassan, Imam Hussain and rest of the Imams of the Twelwers or the Islamaili branch preached and died for. For tawheed and submission to God almighty. Reverence and respect and rising the Ahlul Bait to an infallible position indoctrined and guided by the Light of God himself does not mean shias pray 5 times to Imam Ali and Prophets Household. Omg i can't stop laughing.
I get really tired debating you ppl as you are stuck in your ways and dont respond to reason so ill make this fast. What does "ya ali madad" mean? If you know what it translates to then give me the EXCUSE for how thats not worshipping a dead man.
Entertain Me you idiot and a snake spreading lies about the Shia. Shia does not worship Ali. If Ali was given his appointed as the Holy Prophet pbu had told the people during his last sermon at the Ghadir over one million heard This Khilafat mess would not have happened. For seat and power, Mr. Baker was chosen by a few people, Ali was not even included. How come Abu Baker, Uthman and Umar were not involved in the Prophet's burial? They were too busy meeting for Khialfa, took advantage of that time and appointed Mr. Baker as the Khalifa, then his daughter Ayesha and her best friends Talha and Zubayer went to war against Ali Khalifa of the time. Then your uncle Mawyia went to war with Ali. Those people hated the family of the Prophet. Then Yazid happened.
.... Didn't the Prophet PBUH say he is the city of the knowledge and Ali is the door and who ever wants to enter it to come through Ali. You must be a worshiper of Mawyia.
If you look at how brutal and murderous the history of Islam is, it makes you think perhaps Ali was the true leader after Muhammad. The ummah is cursed from the beginning.
Please be united as an Ummah. the Holy Quran is the complete code of life of human being and the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) shows us the way of life. please come to the straight path.
It's actually interesting to read and watch something about the Caliphate, but i don't see anything "divine" or "Islamic" nor anything related to "muslims" instead it is a power struggle of a "dynasty" which at times had been shadowed by religion to "justify" the massacre and the politics that followed and whomsoever was good at inclining the odds in HIS favor was triumphant and was able to rule as "Caliph" and religion had no role to play. Yet somehow a narrative that this ugly POLITICS unlike other fascist imperialistic regimes is "different" is deep rooted in the Muslim faith, can someone show me that difference ?
Puneet Saraswat you're right.. it's our fault. . that we are at the brink of war and chaos ... this is among us Muslims only for one reason that we had gone far away from Allah and His teachings- the Quran. one thing I humbly want to say is that please everyone do not attach Muslim actions with Islam.. meaning that Islam is intact and perfect .. it is we humans/Muslim who are not perfect.... we do not follow Islam as it should be followed.. If any of you want to know what Islam is please read Quran yourself..
It looks to me like Islam was screwed from the beginning. Immediately following Muhammad's death they started fighting over power and money, even to the extent of murdering Muhammad's own friends and family. It has never stopped. I am surprised one of them didn't murder Muhammad himself.
23:20-23:40 "Each year, on the anniversary of the battle of Karbala, Shia around the world mark the event with public displays of penitence extending sometimes event to ritual self punishment to atone for their forebearers faillure to support Al-Hussain." It is irresponsible and wholly inaccurate for Al Jazeera to make such a claim. Not only is this claim baseless, but it is also illogical and a repetition of common propaganda against Shi'ism. Yet it is a revealing insight into the integrity of the producers of this otherwise informative documentary. Public displays of mourning do take place, yes, but to claim they are 'penitence' is inaccurate. Many Shi'is around the world are in fact descended from Hussain (as) through his only surviving son from Karbala, who was bedridden from sickness throughout the event, thus claiming that "Shias are mourning for their ancestors who betrayed or failed to support Hussain," it is, for a large part of the Shia world, inaccurate historically. Many who are from other areas of the world, such as South Asia and Iran, do not even have ancestry in the Middle East at that time- even if some of them have tenuous connection, they will hardly be aware of it. Moreover, even if we took the baseless claim as true for a moment- i.e. that Shias do mourn because their ancestors failed to save their Imam- it is illogical and unrealistic that one would cry over people they have never met- be they ancestors or 'forbearers'- of whom they have no knowledge and for whom they have no love and hence, can show no sadness. The forbearers of the Shi'a of today are those who kept the message of Karbala alive- not because they failed to do anything to stop it, but because their grandfather lived through it. If the claim were true, I challenge anyone making it to bring forward the stories recited in the majalis of Shi'as and I would like them to show me where or when any Shia recitor or speaker has referred to "our ancestors/forbearers". Crying over someone you don't know is not realistic, but the fact is that Shi'as do know who Hussain is. They have been brought up with his story. Thus, the only reasonable explanation is that Shias do, in fact, cry for the overwhelming plight of Hussain and his family. The narrations that are recounted are heartbreaking, the detail wrenches at the throat urging it to let out a cry of grief. I hear about people crying over fictional books they read and yet, crying over actual history, over the brutal murder of not just grown men, but of young children and speechless infants, and of the devestation and tribulation faced by the surviving women and young- if that is not worth mourning, then nothing is. A visitor once asked the surviving son of Hussain, Ali al-Sajjad (as), once as to how long would he continue mourning and crying and he replied that Prophet Jacob (a.s.) had 12 sons and only one of them became lost while Jacob knew that he was still alive but he continued crying until his eyes became white and his back got bent - "I saw 17 members of my family being slaughtered around me like sheep and you ask me as to how long I would continue mourning?!"
Thank you. Thank you. That line in the video lost the whole value and it's integrity. I was like, huh? Wait, I am Asian, then why do I mourn the loss of Imam Hussain. Becaise my forefathers couldn't support him? Lol. What a conspiracy.
Over mourning is not allowed in any religion..we are all here only to depart..wether Ali was made first after Muhammad pbuh or not makes no difference..to the outcome off history..this was not about power.. it's about Allah's word..and whom it was delivered by..thats it..final..anything after the prophets death..has nothing to do with Islam
About the saying " O people, of whomsoever i ve been master ......" The background is when Prophet leave to Mecca, he appoint Ali as leader as he left for Mecca with other senior sahabah, then people of Madinah dont accept it, so the prophet said that verse, it has nothing to do with Caliphate. Sunni love Ali. He is one of the best sahabah to prophet. It is about being Sunni or being Shiah, it is about being honest. I am so disappointed to see this documentary, You have crowd, but you misleading them.
This is wrong. Abu Bakr (Ra) Is the Rightful Khalifah. Allah's Rasool (Sallallahu alayhe wa salam) made Abu Bakr (RA) Lead the Salaah. This was the Sign of Leadership
This has nothing to do with religion. The rise and fall of empires due to man's greed and ego is something ALL civilisations faced historically. European history is much much worse, and they were Christians.
Indeed.... but don't u see the irony of it... they do it on the name of religion.. in this case it is called ISLAM, the so called peaceful haven for humans
You're serious ? First part narrates how the caliphs had nothing in mind but expanding their empires, looting and enslaving people who never knew about or threatened the muslims.
Wrong, Ali wasnt against abu bakr how can this consensus be misportrayed here? That is a shia view, if you are trying to be objective from both sides at least mention it being a shia view and do not portray it as something that is accepted by both sides
There are many things said in the documemtry which are shia views and not authentic. An extremely poor research done by aljzeera on such a sensitive n crucial history topic.
Yes, better and more Maps would have been great for easier understanding.

We will undoubtedly unite one day under the banner of the Mahdi. However, the Shia in modern times have strayed far away from the true path. Over the years they become more pagan in beliefs. As long as their Shia leaders are still there spreading lies and creating bid'ah, there is no saving them unless they truly understand the Quran and not the lies of their leaders.

The division between sunnis and shias is so stupid. We are all muslims, and that´s what we should call ourselves first.
3:103 And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided. And remember the favor of Allah upon you - when you were enemies and He brought your hearts together and you became, by His favor, brothers.
Suleman Malik islamic leaders do not think so.
Red Onion correction: we the people believe so, U provocatures want it otherwise.
All divisions are stupid, but we have them.
You are 100% right Suleman. There is neither Sunni nor Shia in Islam as the quoted verse is the strong proof. But we Muslims are ignorant to understand it just because none of them bothered to read the Quran instead blindly believe in religious fanatics.
The division among people on the basis of religion is also stupid brother if you are willing to open your mind. We are all HUMANS. We should just call ourselves HUMANS only.

Allah has put forward the criteria for leadership in the Holy Quran 2:247: "He said: “Allah has chosen him (Talut) over you and has endowed him abundantly with both intellectual and physical capacities."
Allah the Most Exalted has endowed Imam Ali (A:) abundantly with both intellectual and physical capacities.

Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) made Imam Ali (peace be upon him) sit on a throne and standing up he held the hand of Imam Ali (peace be upon him) and said: 14:36 O people of Whom so ever I(PBUH) had been master
Ali a.s here is to be his master
O Allah be a supporter of who ever supports him and an enemy of whoever opposes him
And divert the truth to Ali a.s
And after that people congratulated Imam Ali (peace be upon him).
Shia never pray to ali, and fatima, get ur brain bro n watch the documentary again

I am not a Muslim. I find this very interesting. The status of Abdul Malik is now very clear.
Yet somehow a narrative that this ugly POLITICS unlike other fascist imperialistic regimes is "different" is deep rooted in the Muslim faith, can someone show me that difference ?
what your saying is true this nothing to do with Islam after the Umayed took over they turned it to an Empire
Puneet Saraswat
you're right.. it's our fault. . that we are at the brink of war and chaos ... this is among us Muslims only for one reason that we had gone far away from Allah and His teachings- the Quran.
one thing I humbly want to say is that please everyone do not attach Muslim actions with Islam.. meaning that Islam is intact and perfect .. it is we humans/Muslim who are not perfect.... we do not follow Islam as it should be followed..
First ever I watched very clear history of Islam.

The Koran cannot be trusted either.
A very good summary for the medium used. Very informative.
That logic at 46:13 though...
Thank you so much for clarifying
wise words
Over mourning is not allowed in any religion..we are all here only to depart..wether Ali was made first after Muhammad pbuh or not makes no difference..to the outcome off history..this was not about power.. it's about Allah's word..and whom it was delivered by..thats it..final..anything after the prophets death..has nothing to do with Islam
