    The one who said history repeats itself really was precise in their observation. When I look at the 'umma' today in relation to the events yesterday, I can't help but fall apart. It's our people like yesterday that will raise it tomorrow. The leaders of today are no different from those yesterday. Let's learn people, let's learn, no matter what, this umma like yesterday will rise! The youth that are neglected today will lead tomorrow just like those of old did. Crusader's flag looks like the national flag of england

    • @abmong
      @abmong 8 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      It derives from the Templar Cross, but with notable differences. The Templars were seen as the archetype of what they thought the ideal crusader should be. The red cross was to symbolize the Templar's willingness to die in service to Christ and the white background was to symbolize their purity of spirit as they gave up material wealth and lived an austere monastic life when not in battle. During the crusades the Christians also started to venerate St. George as he was the warrior saint and depicted him as a Templar/Crusader in Christian art.
      The red cross on white was adopted by the soldiers of the French and English kings during 2nd crusade who were placed under command of Knight Templar captains. The difference being the red cross adoptedes by the soldiers were straight broad red bands on white backgrounds like the paintings of St. George whereas the real Templars wore the red cross pattée which didn't extend to the edge.
      It's believed the English adopted the St. George style flag after Richard the Lionheart returned to England after the 3rd crusade.

What particularly stood out for me was the stark contrast between Christian illiteracy, ignorance, and rogue fanaticism of the Crusaders versus the more erudite Islamic ideals of science, medicine, mathematics, and literacy. Phlebotomy or demon exorcism? Really? Clearly these empires were functioning on different levels. Today, we can still see this phenomenon represented today between the educated who tout intellectualism and uneducated who have nothing but religious fundamentalism to establish any kind of purpose or meaning in life. • @OmegaKent
      @OmegaKent 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Robert Faulkner That was eventually followed by the Spanish Inquisition, and again, you need to thank Christianity for that.

    • @robfictionwriter3310
      @robfictionwriter3310 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The inquisition was an inevitable reaction to the trauma of seven hundreds of virtually constant warfare.The mistrust between Jews, Muslims and Christians became so ingrained that it continued even after most of the Spanish Jews and Muslims converted to Christianity. The Christians in Spain had a pretty bad time of it under Muslim rule. Dhimmitude. Living as third class citizens. In fact by the time they took Granada back there were very few Christians left there.

    • @OmegaKent
      @OmegaKent 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Robert Faulkner There was no such trauma. The time frame we are speaking of is huge. We are dealing with centuries, and not months, or a few years of Muslim rule. On the whole, main boundaries were well established and understood by both sides. Under Muslim rule, Christians, Jews and Muslims practiced their individual beliefs, yet co-operated as one people and society prospered as a result. Let us not forget, Spain excelled under this rule. Intellectual knowledge and scientific progress flourished from all three established communities.
      An attempt should not be made to justify religious persecution of the worst kind but you may try to understand, without sympathy, how it came to pass. The Spanish Inquisition was not just against Muslims or Jews. Though Jews, could never be explained as a credible threat but were targeted nonetheless in Christian Spain. In that time, religion ruled and ruled peoples' minds with intent. You could just as easily be executed for a fallacious charge of blasphemy as you could for being a non-Christian. The obvious political dimensions were there but the driving force behind the Inquisition was one based in religious supremacy. It was more about the nature of Christianity at that time than anything else.

    This series, all 4 parts, was amazing and enlightening! Thanks for making this AJ!

      Better watch Arn he Templar, Kingdom of Heaven is just Hollywoods copy of it.
