Fantastic. Hugh hasn't lost anything - what a great performance! For someone who modestly claims to struggle with the guitar, he always puts in a superb performance - he has his own unique recognisable sound and style.
Instantly recognisable after what 45 years? I’m with my sister who immediately said “The Stranglers!” I recall seeing them at the Portsmouth Guildhall in 1977, at least I think that’s when it was. I didn’t see many bands but couldn’t miss one of my favourite bands right on my doorstep. I wasn’t close to the front but I saw a bunch of Pompey lads gobbing at J-J Burnel, who at the end of a number, dumped his bass & leapt into them. Scary man. Bloody good gig. I’ve no idea why we did that then? Disgusting & thank God it wasn’t a long-lived habit. They sound very fresh in this concert. Thank you, Hugh, for continuing the incomparable legacy of memories of just outstanding music & performances. Not many bands spanned getting banned for obscenity on Radio 1 (rock & pop) for “Peaches”, then shortly afterwards being housewives favourite on R2 (easy listening) with “Golden Brown”.
Yes two songs with either a hidden meaning or dirty lyrics used to be played consistently on the radio. Even Keith Floyd's tv programme featured Peaches because Hugh apparently played in Keiths restaurant in Bristol.
I’m not interested in the debate that The Stranglers aren’t The Stranglers without Hugh. I like Baz Warne in the lineup but this is a contradiction of that argument. Just enjoy the journey we Stranglers fans have been on for the past 5 decades.❤
I was about to ask the same thing until I saw your post. Back in 2012 I flew to Europe and saw Hugh in Amsterdam and Groningen Holland and Verviers Belgium. Great gigs all!
Too the bampot comment below… Hugh cornwell only one good album since he left the stranglers.. idiot comment…. He was always a live act man… and he has many projects too his talents…. And more than one good album..
@@heraldeventsandfilms5970 He destroyed it. That’s my opinion and some, simple minded, unmusical, sycophantic prick , with zero taste, won’t change my mind. Free will to express my opinion, in the comments section.
Why not his own stuff? Why play stuff he slagged off and tried to prevent the band he was in from playing? See him at Kings Lynn festival 2. He played some of his solo stuff but had the best reaction when he played JJ s songs.

The real and unique Stranglers voice. Sounds great.

I wish I had known this sooner. I could have gone. Sounds fantastic. Thanks for sharing .
Beautiful Tele!.
Brilliant
I agree
Very Amazing !
AMAZING PERFORMER EXCELLENT
Come to Fredrikstad in Norway, Hugh! I like some of his solo work and think he sounds good live. Like the kinda lowkey vibes of his show.
Fantastico Hugh ❤

Tremendous man
Amazing 😂Hugh!!❤
Hugh cornwell… is a hero ledgend….
Genius still at his craft 👍
Where is Caz Campbell? she's a fab bass player and looks amazing!

She's with a band called DethRays now
@@TheRobman thanks buddy 👍
great
Not bad at all for a 73 year old! Keep it up Hugh 👍
Magic Hugh and the band
Do you think any bass player Hugh hires get tired quickly of folk comparing him to the incomparable JJ Burnel ?
👍🏴
no danger of that ever happening with this one.
@@bepitan he is good
This bassist is a dead man walking!!
His guitar was amazing. Angular riffs. Remember 5 minutes?
HUGH CORNWELL HELLO FROM ISRAEL
Hugh could call his band the Stranglers.
As only one original strangler is in the stranglers anyway now.
Ha Ha.
Love telecasters.
Nowhere to hide in this lineup which is what I like about it.
This is so much better then being in the Stranglers. 🙄🙄🙄
Sounding flat without JJ, Dave and Jet....
Needs keyboards
I don't understand his choice for this guitar sound. It sounds powerless and doesn't suits the song well. But it's nice he is still on the road.
yeesh
Love Hugh from his Stranglers days,,but funny how he’s back playing stuff from those early days that he said he needed to move on from,,,sad really x
Jeezo critical folk… he 73 years old.. and still cuts the groove…. You must be be the new wave woke divisions
Get caz back...
Hugh, you need a keyboard player

Wow, He destroyed the vocal to Hanging Around. Thats NOT how the song goes..
It is HIS song to do whatever he likes with and some prick on the internet having a go at him is irrelevant.

@@heraldeventsandfilms5970 YEP agreed there still like the raw gritty vocals 👍👍
@@paulbanner9612 The Stranglers Snarl. Baz Warne sings like an angry docker.
strange little girl class tho

Man this is a real slog to watch. What a poor show. Lots of respect for Hugh but this just isn't working imo
The attack is gone, the venom is gone, the attitude is gone. There's tribute bands that sound better.
Thanks for the memories...😔
The drummer is doing too much fannyung around...play the songs mate...back up the music don't obliterate it!!
Not a nice man , Met him at Strummercamp 2007. Ego!
Yes I had the same experience at a book and CD signing in London a few years back. Very aloof.
Met him..couldn't have been nicer. Must like us aussies..signed everything I had..v cool
Good sound but why do they look so miserable
Not the best strangers cover band I`ve heard /
good but too slow hugh
Poor Hugh! One good album - 'Wired' since leaving the Stranglers! That WAS IT!!
Very nice. But is he so poor he has to rehash decades old stuff, with boredom, for a few hundred? Sad.
La brutta copia di Stranglers... peccato!
I love how it’s a back room gig but the drummer has a huge drumkit 😂😂😂😂
