I met a girl back then too when this was playing on the radio. We thought we were Bonnie and Clyde. We got up to all kinds of nonsense. I wound up doing 14 months in Magilligan jail, she hooked up with another guy. We haven't seen each other since but wouldn't have changed it for anything.....great times, great band.
@phillipwallace7211 The meaning of life is learning ones lessons with the people who come and go, we are actors playing our parts, and that's why we shouldn't have any regrets from the past as it's meant to be 💯 I'm no saint, as I've been banged up on 3 occasions due to a violent upbringing, but I've learnt not to use violence as I see it as a sign of weakness, it's all to easy to lash out when life isn't going our way and by this statement you can see I have truly learnt and changed my ways. Without my violent upbringing, there would be no lessons for me to learn, I'm sorry for babbling on like this it's just that the Bonnie & Clyde statement reminded me of my youth. Peace out ✌️💯
Space are far too underrated these days. Their music is an integral part of 90s Britpop. No other band had such consistent blend of storytelling, movie-like references, exotic pop. Tommy Scott is a genius who should be mentioned a bit more closer to how much Lee Mavers of The La's is mentioned by the music magazines. Space's postmodern spin / blend of genres as diverse as lounge music and stuff like 60s mod rock is surely not close to how easy their talent, delivery, romantic and dark comic humour imagination made it look. We were just so spoiled with talent in the late 80s and 90s.
@@daveykirkham4214 Completely agree especially these days. Does anyone know what happened to them because they're a lot more unknown now than they were back then, their latest album didn't get a physical release and they don't have killer music videos anymore. It's really strange because they seemed like they were verging on the mainstream in the 90s but these days there's a lot less attention for them, and they're still really good and haven't declined like a lot of bands do. It's just a bit of a head scratcher. I think back then they were in a bit of a limbo, not quite Britpop but put into that category because the media wasn't sure where else to put them, its because they're so unique i think. It's crap because there's not much of a community online for the band either like on Reddit etc.
My dad is from Liverpool and loved Space. He said this video was made in Liverpool near a place called Wavertree Road. I met the lead singer in a party we went to about 8 years ago with my family.
How on earth did this band not get the recognition that was so deserving.. great lyrics with a chaotic ensemble of instrumental mayhem.. still love you guys, cheers for the memories ps. if Black fookin Sabbath and The Stranglers can have another go at it, there's definitely time for you..hint hint
Because pop culture, ask anyone who grew up in that time or were youngish adults, and they'll all remember The Ballad Of Tom Jones with Cerys Matthews. Funnily enough though, I don't remember her at all, and this comment is the first time I've thought of her since that song
Agreed there were multiple bands that didn't get a look in because oasis were around. All those bands like the charlatans, shed 7, cast and many more would have dominated at any other time but the 90s. Great memories of this song and their hit neighborhood
'A tin of baked beans and a Woman's Weekly'. LOL! I bought this album when it came out. What a quality song but 'Dark Clouds' was always my favourite track.
saw these live years ago in the Royal Court Liverpool - brilliant!! I was at the very front and every time Tommy came towards the crowd they surged forwards and I had bruised ribs from the edge of the stage for weeks!!
I've had this song going around in my head all day so I came and searched it on TH-cam................it's a great track and god knows why it started going off in my head.
It was not forgotten..finally found....i was lost in space.....1994 been following....it was sad when i couldnt remember..but the rythm..keep linggering in my head....till finally
Bonnie and Clyde meets "Badlands"...BRILLIANT and now with the internet they are finally getting the recognition they deserve by sharing to my younger realatives :)...nice one :)
There were some great British rock groups in the 90s, where are they today? Witty lyrics, creative melodies, string sections, elements of James Bond - 70s psychedelia - French pop, catchy hooks with attitude. In 2015 onwards, everyone wants to be a solo artist singing self centered misery piano ballads, incomprehensible EDM for 3 minutes or X rated rap. Generation Z have a lot to answer for!
Saw Space (and Catalonia) play at Madstock in Finsbury Park in ‘98 in front 70,000 people and they were brilliant. I recently saw Space perform in a pub in South London and they were bloody awesome. They so obviously love what they do and are just as happy no matter the size of the venue. Although I think they probably prefer the smaller intimate venues as they get much closer interaction with their fans. I hope to catch them playing in the retirement home when I’m grey and old.
@@seansmith445 They were at the New Cross Inn. It's a very old pub but has specialised in gigs for quite a few years. Space are so much more than a pub band obvs, but it's just great to see them in such a familiar and intimate venue.
i only discovered space about five months ago and i love them i bought the album spiders and its been on every day since love them totally big kiss and hugs to them all
Gotta thank the MTV channel for having a programme back in the 90s that focused on Brit bands. That was how a Malaysian like me gotta know this cool but quirky band 😂 Love them
Tommy, Franny, Alan and Phil are touring again this year. Show your support for a great band with a top show trust me they're that good. All the best hits and new material which is as good but not known.
"no matter where in heaven or hell i know it doesn't have a separate cell" i laugh so hard. there's gen X for you, people... bunch of insane but classy people toying with the boundaries of genius and idiocy with so much talent it is coming out of their ears. gotta love'em :))
Dont understand the comments saying these guys were underrated. The album went platinum and was in the album charts for over a year. They got a fair bit of radio play and it was rated well by the music press of the time.
I wonder how many people know that the band scenes were recorded on what is now the Hollyoaks set? At the time it was recorded, it was used for Brookside. The old Brookside Parade petrol station. In terms of Hollyoaks, it's located a short distance in front of the subar, which I think is a hospital now but I don't watch it so I'm not sure. But yeah, there ya go.
This is a song you could scream from the top of your lungs on the way home from the town on your bike really drunk in the 90s and everything was just perfect
I met a stunning babe 25 years ago and sang this to her, 5 kids and 3 grand kids down the line and I'm still singing it to her 🎶🎸💯💚
Awesome thanks Space 🤘
yes mate

Who wants to live in a house like this? I am the lovechild of the Queen. His fingers are getting itchy now and he won't be held responsible!
Better than Britpop. Better than The La's. Better than most other music out there. Space occupy an orbit all of their own.

They are performing in my city in November.

In and around there. The petrol station is on Edge Lane, and other shots look like Tunnel Road and Wavertree road (around Edge Hill station).
well that explains the singer's terrible accent
The petrol station was the set ofTV show Brookside. It wasn't on a main road.
This song deserves more accolaides than it has got. I never fail to cry at the ending... What a beautiful sentiment...

Sat in back garden having a trip down memory lane with Space whilst my randy dog humps his cushion behind me.
Rock on.
Absolutely brilliant, extremely underated band.
This band is great! Brings back loads of memories! :)
'A tin of baked beans and a Woman's Weekly'.

One of my absolute favourite songs of the 90s I remember them on good morning Britain back in 97 I think pure Liverpool
I bloody love this song xx

University life… Leeds 1996-99 best memories. I saw them live in 1997 in Leeds
So under rated.
Seems nobody has heard this song. You are right, criminally under-rated song. Deserved to be #1...
Favourite song in the 90s!

They were from Liverpool and some of this video was filmed on the set of Brookside, the petrol station and the garden with the washing line
Hey now, you're an all star!

Space has so many good songs! Very under-rated. Who is the guy with the red hair?
Favourite line has to be "I hit him on the head with the only thing anywhere near me. A tin of baked beans and a women's weekly" :D
Paraphrasing Victoria Wood but not as funny.
Brilliant line, always makes me smile. That and 'i first met you hanging knickers on the line'

I remember watching a film at the cinema called "Shooting Fish" not a bad film and this was the intro song. True story needs more Aliens.
ChrisBlackandGold I love that film, it’s what introduced me to Space in the first place since their song Neighbourhood is also in it.
What's the film folks? I need to watch it!
