Adam Savage used my model as a base for a TH-cam video. This is for sure a highlight of my maker career.

What I love about watching makers like Adam is how it opens your mind to different ways to accomplish tasks. My head went straight to 'those are easy 3D model modifications and he can just print them new.' Adam's ability to just jump in and modify the parts with his tools and skills is another perfectly good solution!

I love it as I find it relaxing having it on while I work editing my photos, I wish I had the sort of skills he has but its almost as satisfying watching him achieve the results he does, although I do get green eyed at his collection of toys!

It's interesting, though, tinsee where he's at jn terms of change. I'm surprised he did this while process 4 times instead of altering the file to print to his specs.

I think Adam takes the right approach for someone who’s still somewhat new to really using 3D printing as a maker.
(I know he’s done it for a while, but I’m talking about depth of experience)
Lots of enthusiasts know a million ways to improve prints, tweak them without remodeling them to make subsequent work easier, get faster print times or better quality, etc. but there’s SOOO many variables that it’s overwhelming for most people who don’t already know that stuff.
It’s much better to let them learn at their pace, offer advice when they ask for it or suggest little tips here and there. But railing “you should have done it this way” really doesn’t encourage people to get deeper into it most of the time.

  • @BallisticTech
    @BallisticTech ปีที่แล้ว +9

I think for someone so used to using other processes, 3D Printing is great for helping you spend time on what you want. If that makes sense. Do you want to be spending the time to build out that whole scale pack with milling whatever material? Or building it from PVC and vacuforming and cleaning all all that up?
Or would you rather spend your time painting and weathering and adding effects. I think for some ppl, and sometimes Adam, they would rather use the techniques they are used to because they enjoy them and the process.
But sometimes having something that gets you 80% there's lets you spend much more time doing the more desirable part of the build.

nice to see the flash board in use all the time now ... that was a nice build to watch ... next build make camera and lighting mounting stands that attach around your workshop and take care of hanging on to the camera lights and mics as needed ... beats knocking over of having shaking cameras all the time ... also for the stuff like the lathe film from the far side back to the work then you are out of the way and all can be seen still heck make a dolly cart with camera and light stand and a basic tool shelf to hold the stuff you need out of the shot but still need .. then it can roll to your work spot and poof instant camera spot

One thing I know that printers are great for is Greeblies!!! You keep saying you can't get enough and with supports turned on and orientations to force more of them it will also make longer prints. Find a nice benchie to print in an ' incorrect ' orientation that you can later use as a greebles just to look at the different options for supports. Even Rafts can become something else with planning and happy accidents!. Loved watching the build, not trying to detract, that said headphone cables are out there for cheap, woven cloth covered and there are some tiny RGB surface mount LEDs that could potentially fit at the working end of the proton gun. The hard part is the enameled wire to the stock end and have the LED in the barrel at that scale. Please keep sharing the progress!

I think I need to print one of those proton packs with my resin printer.

Adam's watch is a Seiko SKX009, for anyone curious. It's an iconic automatic 200M diver's watch that was introduced in 1996 and led to a huge resurgence of interest in automatic watches and "divers" in particular, where it and its variants became big in the watch-modding scene. It's no longer made and has been replaced by the SRPD-series watches, which aren't quite the same, but very similar. Adam's appears to have the stock "jubilee" bracelet. It's a great "everyday" tool watch, and I'm glad to see Adam flying the Seiko flag.

Stoked to see Adam getting into FDM printing. Resin printers are awesome but there are some things that just work better in FDM. I'm not sure about the specifics of the Bambu but with the FDM machines I own, I upgraded them with sprung steel PEI coated build plates. I don't have to use any glue or extra adhesive for my prints, and I'm able to print almost anything without a brim. Once the print cools down it pops right off.

I have 2 of these, I made a long drop poop chute with a curve on the bottom for the back that holds on with magnets and drops into a cereal box underneath. Uses much less space and holds a lot more 'poop'

I have those same Makita storm trooper guns! Well the drill has a removable drill chuck. I can put it on the little impact. Came in a pretty little metal case.

The glue stick calling for help was so unexpected! It got me laughing so hard that my wife came over to see what was going on. I'm glad that it was OK in the end! 🤣🤣🤣

Sooo good. Master craftsman! Now for the next build: Short Circuit's Johnny 5! The 80's kid who could never find a J5 toy ever.

3D printing has changed the way I build props, but I still go back to 'traditional' model building. A 3D printed interior cage has simplified my Star Wars Thermal Detonator prop, enabling the introduction of Arduino control of the lights and sound effects.

It’ll be interesting to see what Adam comes up with when he starts using things like heat set threaded inserts, adding magnets/material mid-print, etc.

You should try solder paste for the joints. It is used for surface mount electronics you just apply the paste that already have flux.

    Love it👌
I agree to 3D printing, I started with a ender 3 years ago and have a more high end in the garage now and a resin printer but I only use it for spare parts or to fix something 🤷‍♂️ it's all about speed and often I can build something way faster then a 7 hour print.. and I don't have the time for all the fails and fixes just for one print.
But the bambu changes all that I'd say, it's a next level printer for a really good price 👌

Dude! It would be so cool to have the lights powered by a battery/switch in the gurney with contact pads on each of the pack so that when you put them on the gurney, they light up, but when you take them off, they go dark.

Awesome Seiko watch Adam! Love it with the Jubilee bracelet. I want to get that exact watch now, after seeing it on your wrist it looks like a $20,000 watch.
