    I had a putter fitting a fortnight ago. Before booking the fitting I'd waggled a few around in shops with varying degrees of confidence about which one to buy. After an hour and a half trying a selection of putters suitable for my style of putting we'd found the right putter and the right adjustments that needed to be made. I also learnt a lot about putting and how to tweak my grip, stance and stroke to be more consistent and accurate. Before and during the test I didn't know the actual prices of the putters I was trying out, I gave the golf pro my top figure and he selected the right clubs for my style in and around my price range. It turned out that the cheapest one of the bunch was by far the best fit for me. If I'd bought one without the fitting I'd have easily spent £100 to £150 more and come away with a club that performed much worse. I'd definitely recommend a putter fitting to anyone that feels they're not getting the best out of their putting.

    Great video. Putter fitting should not be overlooked. I just had mine done and it was eye opening.

    It sure would be nice if more places offered such services. When I purchased my first set of clubs (I originally learned to play with my father's old set), I purchased a putter, brand new, from Golf Mart because I had no idea what I should be use and was hoping their "experts" would fit me with the proper club. But really all they did was show me several types of clubs and had me try them out on their little indoor green to see which one I liked. Yeah, I can't say that was terribly helpful. Fortunately, I'm still a high handicap golfer, so it probably doesn't matter as much yet.

    Got fitted at Bettinardi Studio B and I have to say it was well worth the price of a high end putter and fitting. I averaged between 30-36 putts per round before the fitting and now I'm down between 26-29 because my distance control is better, my aim is better, and I'm holing a lot more of the putts that I would have lipped out before.

    I bought a putter last Xmas, was looking for a putting fitting studio in my area and I could not find one locally. Totally agree with the info in video, but at this stage the retailers in uk have not caught up.

    Great video on a VITAL part of the game. It is something that most golfers do not pay enough attention to. If you want to get your score down like I do where can I go to be professionally fitted for a putter. I live near Reading in Berks. Keep these great videos coming.

    I was wondering if you can make a video about stopping the habit of coming over the ball. I'm15 and I'm a mid handicapper but I come over the ball on my driver(kind of like the opposite of a Jim furyk swing)

    the fundamental issue with almost all fitting sessions nowadays is that they make you hit such a small amount of shots. 5 shots with a certain configuration is not at all enough to give a confident statistical statement on what works best for you. especially not so for amateurs whose swings are far from consistent enough. shaft, head, lie angle etc for irons and drivers especially results in a lot of configurations being tested and it's just not feasible for a lot of golf shops to have you in there testing for hours or days. a lot of custom fitting sessions will have you leaving with whatever set you somehow managed to make 4-5 good swings in a row with. so if you're really hoping to get custom fit judge the fitting centers performance on how many swings they make you take, and more importantly come back and try the configuration they recommend a few days later before buying. might not be the best anymore, but if it is you can be more confident in the success of the fitting session.

      no name For a better player you don't want them hitting a lot of shots reason being you get use to it and make the swing required for it to work best. For hackers fitting clubs is all about speed and how they present the clubface to the ball. Telling people to measure their fitting pro by the number of balls they let you smack is ludicrous.

    • @vetle2762
      @vetle2762 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Garrett Nobles if you get used to it by hitting 15-20 balls instead of 5 then surely getting fitted isn't important at all then lol. hackers get no benefit out of fittings full stop. their swing changes too much.

    • @garrettnobles8956
      @garrettnobles8956 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Everyone can benefit from a fitting. Just because a guy can't repeat the same contact every time doesn't mean his swing speed changes or that you can't fit his length/lie to optimize his swing. It also doesn't mean 30 minutes of an hour fitting can't be devoted to instruction.
      I guarantee you that at 15 balls better players start to adjust and make up for whatever they are using. With putting for instance you will get a guy who misses a few to the left and starts to force the feeling of holding the face off a tad. You don't want to let them adjust to it, you want to fit what they do naturally.

    • @vetle2762
      @vetle2762 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Garrett Nobles going to have to disagree completely here. I worked at a golf course with a fitting centre for years and the vast majority of people that came in for a fitting saw no difference in their handicap after. I also saw people get new clubs every time the next new thing came out with a fitting session resulting in vastly different specs being suggested (sometimes less than 6 months after their last one).
      5 swings is just not statistically enough to draw any conclusions. compare it to flipping a coin. getting heads 5 times in a row is about a 3% chance. getting heads 20 times in a row just isn't going to happen. similarly you might make 5 good swings in a row with one club you're trying, but if you hit every club more you'll see some bad shots too. do you think a pro changes clubs based on 5 swings?
      if an amateurs swing results in a variation of lie angle at impact of 2-3 degrees (often you see way more than this btw) adjusting someone's clubs 1 degree upright isn't going to be beneficial just cause he got 3-4 swings coming in at 1 degree upright when if he swung more you'd actually see his true variation. these are just basic statistical and mathematical concepts which golf pros tend to ignore cause they have no education in it.
      the whole players will compensate in their swing logic is also so flawed. if you are able to change your swing that quickly, why even bother getting fitted? just get standard, and after a few hundred balls surely you're used to the club and you can go on your merry way? saying that people just compensate devalues the whole purpose of a fitting process, cause you can't fit something to something that changes. which is exactly why for most amateur golfer they will get very little out of a fitting process other than a potential placebo effect short term.
      for those that have a consistent enough swing, fittings need to be more thorough to not be a waste of time, which was my point in the first place. not saying getting fitted can't be good, but it's not done in half an hour. come back a few days later and try again and see how you go then, and then you can have some confidence in your new clubs.
      the sad reality is most club fittings nowadays are nothing more than sales pitches. they want you in and out quickly with a new set of clubs. if you hit more balls you will see that there's less of a difference between clubs than you'd like to think and might be less inclined to buy them. and this isn't even mentioning the dodgy places which have you hit some shots with your own club before putting an impact sticker on the new clubs and then rave about the increased distance. or places that change simulator settings to make the results seem better.

      I do respect your opinion on fitting but do not agree with it. I am a certified Ping and Callaway fitter as well as a Callaway products expert. Most of the people I fit are students I have worked with. If I am working with a complete beginner or someone with severe consistency issues 40 minutes of the hour fit might be golf instruction and at the end you get them the specs, explain to them that your basing it on swing speed, wrist to floor, and how the club face is being delivered. You also explain that you can get clubs sent back to have the lie angle adjusted so they feel secure in their investment.
      I watch/read everything I can get my hands on when it comes to fitting because I want to have all of the answers. If you dont feel that the person fitting you has that level of commitment or knowledge then ask yourself if the price tag of the fitting is the main reason you are spending time at that establishment. I am sorry you had a bad experience but a majority of instructors I have worked with do their best to make the customer happy with the purchase.
      I wont take up any more space on this channel. Love the work you guys put into it.

    I've had the same Ping putter for 30 years. I'm a bit suspicious about these fittings. The problem is the fitter has an incentive to sell putters. What are the odds he would say, "Well the putter you have is fine sir. Keep your wallet in you pocket."
