This game deserves more recognition than it gets. It is the first FPS to feature 3D polygon enemies, and a truly 3D environment with complete freedom of movement. It is every bit as important to the gaming industry as DOOM and Wolfenstein 3D.
This is actually NOT the first game with a truly 3d environment. Ultima Underworld 1 and 2 and System Shock beat them to it. UU 1 was contemporary with Wolfenstein 3d. It was notable for being the first fully 3d texture-mapped game.
@@chelonianegghead274 Actually, no; For that, you have to go all the way back to 1982, with a game called StarGlider (the main inspiration for Star Fox).

A demo version of this was on the new PC my mom bought in 1996. I spent hours playing it and I even called Parallax Software talking to a very friendly rep about the merits of 'Descent'. I made it all the way to the last 'demo' level (level 30 or 35?), and then it gave a message that I needed to purchase the full game to continue.
I'll never forget getting lost during the escape mission here with the countdown timer. With 5 seconds left I almost gave up, but I saw the exit out of the corner of my eye. Four of us would play over the company network at lunch time against each other, it was crazy fun. Finally I find this game! I didn't remember the name but I still had the memories on spaceship actions in the base of the moon. I was little bit scary playing this when I was a child but in good way. What a flashback.
