Same here‼︎ 😂 I just looked this video up because of that music. The sound of some Rammstein songs still always remind me to that, especially "Tier" on the album "Sehnsucht".
In 1000 years, terminal velocity music will be deciphered from your remains by an archeologist. Terminal Velocity music will be remembered longer than Achilles.
I had the shareware version of this as a child. This game blew open my mind! It introduced so many new concepts to me, from playing in 3D environment to the sandbox feeling it gave you, hell I even discovered some secrets like flying behind you at the start of some missions to get a cache of bunkers at the beginning. Hell was even impressed to realize I could fly high into the sky! 😅
I too had the shareware on CD after purchasing a new desktop PC from CompUSA. Underated game. Also had Descent and Journeyman which were also great games.
@@Networkengie I ALSO owned Descent and the Journeyman Project. I can't call Journeyman good lol as it took me 20+ years of aging to watch a TH-cam video of how to EXACTLY navigate its puzzles BUT they all hold GREAT nostalgia for me man! Thanks for bringing up a positive memory.
Yeah man. During the 90s this was offered on CD when you bought a desktop PC. I loved this game. Descent was another one of those games somewhere similar to this style.
People may not understand but these graphics at this speed were absolutely mind-blowing back in 1995. You needed a good 486DX2 to take the most out of it, though, but if you had one, then this was better than even some games that were on the (soon to be dead) arcade game parlors of the time.
I hear that sound & remember where I was so young ...... this sound is still perfect !!! about 20 years past is still perfect !! .... I remember my best days when I was young .... when I was young & all games was very good .. ! ...
I remember this game blew me away when I first played it. It involved a lot of grinding but it was fun anyway. The graphics were really good for the time. As a Star Wars fan, it was a great alternative to the aging X-Wing and Tie Fighter games ( it would meet its match with the 3rd installment, X-Wings Vs. Tie Fighters, though ).
I played the crap out of this demo back in the day. I did not have any of the cut scenes. Looking at it now, it's cool that it was able to play the cutscenes with the tracker music running uninterrupted. I remember playing MS Hellbender, which looked it it was based on this game - it was nearly identical.
When you slow down to shoot a ground target, i can mentally feel myself slide the MS Sidewinder 3D Pro joystick throttle down. Yikes this muscle memory.
This was one of the first video games I ever played. I was a kid and my dad was really into PC gaming during that time. And he let me play it. I was obsessed. And that music is stuck in my head after all these years. I had to be 6 or 7 years old at that point.
I feel like this game needs a remake or a proper sequel! The fact that you destroyed the mainframe computer and not the mad man behind it, on top of the mystery of the bonus stage leaves a lot of potential for a twisted but amazing follow-up. One where you must stop the parasitic infestation of an unknown body tissue spreading across the galaxy. If not a sequel, then definitely a remake to shed new life into this game that deserved better.
Oh man this takes me back. Y'know what, having the radar/map be a giant transparent overlay actually works really well. You don't really see that in modern games.
I just got to play the demo version during my high school and I must say, I enjoyed the after burner and RTL 3 the most. That 1st level music and the after burner sounds were awesome!
I remember Playing this on 486 dx4 100 with my thicc soundblaster 16, iqr 7 dma 5 who remembers having the sound setup menu? haha such memories, I got the full version from a friend after playing the demo
Wish I knew this game in 95, it woulda got a LOT of playtime... I only just discovered it in dosbox emulation (on PS3) so Ive had to turn all my graphcs DOWN to geet a smooth experience... so was funny watching forst thing you do.. turn them all UP lo. GREAT GAME... I swear mid 90s -2000s was all the best flight games... DESCENT was a favourite back then, wish I knew about this.
I would've liked to see a proper sequel that adds to the game's story. One that explores even more about the main antagonist and the mysteries behind the infestation codenamed: Unknown Body. But instead they went to Microsoft to make games for Windows and make two successors that are lore wise: very different games. I mean, those games were good and all, but I still would've like to see more of Terminal Velocity. Even a remake by 3D Realms would be nice. But I suppose you can't have everything...
Awesome game for the time. My Pentium 3 550 Mhz black Acer tower had no cpu secondary cache from the factory which really hampered framerates. Had to buy cpu cache at Chipsmart and then this game was smooooooth.
I remember this game, played the first level a lot. As you can see the enemies are continually generated, they keep spawning at a distance from you, so you can't really "clear the stage". This game was related to another virtually identical game called Microsoft Fury 3. I don't know which one was the original and which one was the ripoff, though, but the main difference between TV and Fury 3 is that TV ran in DOS whereas Fury 3 ran in Win95 or Win98. Other than that, I only remember the Fury 3 soundtrack was different but equally distinctive and the boss in the demo version of it was a giant cobra.
Fury3 was developed by the same people: same engine, same planet and enemy unit intros, same fonts... as they released only a few months apart, they are basically two versions of a game developed for two different publishers. Neither is a ripoff of the other, if anything we may call them "brothers". I can only guess the devs got in touch with both Apogee and Microsoft while shopping their graphics engine around (it was quite impressive for the time on PCs), and ended up being hired by both.
When i was a kid, i was watching a guy play this, i thought it was a cave with thing hanging from the ceiling... The guy flew upside down the whole time 😅
I used to play this too. But I remember my favorite thing. It was some kind of Secret in the game i think. It was a showcase of colorful stars that fly around and you can move them around too if im not mistaken. Anyone remember this ?
3d realms .... it was a greate brend ... you run the game ... & get all what you can from game ... now games is full sheet .... old games is the best ...
The music from stage 1 has been etched in my brain for decades now.
same here. a few other tunes from this game play in my head too!
Same here‼︎ 😂 I just looked this video up because of that music. The sound of some Rammstein songs still always remind me to that, especially "Tier" on the album "Sehnsucht".
Oh yh, totally!
Same here since 1997 or so

My childhood for sure
Mine too. Hellbender was the best version of the Terminal velocity/Fury 3 series
@Luke S. True!

Yeah, you really felt like if you were into the ship when using a joystick.
Same but my god this did not age well.
@Scripteaze I was five.
@Scripteaze :(
I totally forgot about this game and seeing this after playing 20 years ago.... blows my mind
Over 25 years now, mind _still_ blown.
Man this brings back so many great memories.
same to me. Only played the shareware version as a kid back than... over and over again...
Bloody loved this game back in '95 - played it with a Sidewinder Pro, Pentium 75 and 17" CRT.. great music and effects for the time too!
My 486 33mhz and 14" CRT in '95 were jealous of you =)
Duke Nukem 3D came with a demo of this and Rise of the Triad. I played this as a kid!!
Yes! I owned this too... God Mode!!!

@@Networkengie i wish my younger self would've known how to get the full version of the game, I wanted more out of it so badly lol
The main menu theme and stage 1 music are as iconic for me as the Super Mario theme! LOVE this game!
Back in the day I played this game nonstop. Cheers for uploading this! Takes me right back.
One of the best space shooters of its time. Freespace, wing commander, star treks,
This should have a remake, it was the perfect game to chill too when i was hella young
Not a remake, a graphics remaster
Check steam just came out
@@johnycash99 A remake, not a remaster.

there was zero grinding. you could go straight to the objective and finish each level in under a minute.

yes the level 1 soundtrack is still epic as hell. If i think about it, it would fit so extremely well to Command & Conquer 1/2
