    Amazing get together of the greatest guitarists! Each one of them shows their own masterful style and take on the piece.

    Paco and John should have made a least one album with Catherine because his playing is exquisite.
    Al di Meola wants to play everybody under the table ALL of the time, which, in my opinion get a little tedious after four compositions.

      100% agree. Al playing scales fast in 3rds and 4ths gets old real fast. Trying to out play Paco and John which he never did took away from the musicality.

      Het staat er toch duidelijk: JohnMcLaughlin /LARRY CORYELL/DeLucia/Catherine 1979 perfornance!

    I came here tonight hoping others who actually know how to play might offer some constructive criticism of each players individual style but low and behold it is the usual TH-cam gossip heads as commenteurs attacking other commenteurs. Will this kind of childish wet diaper boy stuff ever cease in the Yo-Gootutbe world of male testosterone guitar gossip? All of these professional gentlemen are of great world standards in their own write. Lets find something honorable to say about them please.

    First time I literally cried watching an instrumental guitar concert in 1979. I didn't know any of these guys then. Then I got into their music for years and I can say that this fabulous piece is the best Coryell ever played. I listened to it hundreds of times. Before they played it, there were 2 duos : Catherine+Coryell who played a fantastic piece as well ( their recorded version later was crap !) and McLaughlin+De Lucia who also did magic. John needed desperately Paco to make great music and stop only playing fast. Paco was the most talented of them all but Philip, that I met years later was a great kind person. His playing was so subtle ! I can't thank enough the guy who put this video on you tube

      @@scottgunvaldsonmusic4116 Thank you for dragging me back to this fantastic video. With YT, so many things to watch and study, we tend to forget our first loves !... I don't want to say who was best and who was second but I saw Paco twice in concert, alone and he blew my mind both times. Then I saw Paco with John and Al Di Meola. John was a catastrophe, missing all his notes and solos...very surprising. I saw again John on stage years later with a bass player and didn't like it at all. I know he was musically the most knowledgeable of them all, he taught Paco a lot of musical theories, but his knowledge went so far that he lost many people on the way I think.
      His Guardian Angels and Electric Dreams are monuments not to be forgotten though. As well as "What need have I for this..." with Shakti.

      Paco was mind blowing too man, listen to the nuances of his playing. When you watch the classic trio McLaughlin Paco and Al Di Meola, if you really hear it, you see that John and Paco were ahead of Meola. At least in my perception. And you can watch that there was a more special communication with John and Paco, stronger than with Al Di Meola. But of course Al is incredible as well, it's just that in my view these two guys went beyond. In a way, John is the most impressive, because he could share the stage fairly with the biggest Flamenco star of the time, as well as with the biggest indian musicians and of course the biggest jazz legends. John is simply one of the best guitar players ever.

    uh Larry played quite alot wiht Bonfa and played on one of his albums. What wrong with you? Everywhere you go your comments are are always filled with invective. Perhaps you should seek counseling. Very nice playing here and blending of styles. All of these guys forgot more about music last week than rude critics like yourself will learn in a lifetime.

  • @leoosiku
    @leoosiku 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    No need to agree with me. As far as your abilities go..... you could be incredible. However, your need to share continual negative criticism will more than likely hinder your musical developement.

    Most apropiate, Philip Catherine as a guest with the first flamenco fusion trío of Paco De Lucía, John McLaughlin and Larry Coryell... I guess that it was an exception for them to have a fourth guitarist... only highlights Philip's talent and human nature... very humble man that doesn't think too highly of himself. Neither self deprecating; Just centered on the see saw of humans emotions

    don't like this choice they made on that tune,they forgot the song and they got into favorite-lick exhibition kind of procedure here.but okey still they're the masters.My opinion is that a guitar quartet has a lot lot more to offer recently i heard this and was overwhelmed (rhapsody in blue -vida) no hate here just personal views .

    • @muhrvis
      @muhrvis 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Magda Kontonasiou I think sometimes for these "all star" guitar concerts there isn't enough attention or time for "arrangements" and it becomes a trade of solos. But it is all good.
