    This is the most in depth tutorial on how to build a trommel I have seen. Thank you for taking the time to share it! That being said, while I enjoy a lot of projects in the house, from laying wood floors, laying tile, fixing washing machines, etc., watching this made me realize that there are just some things that I will never attempt. This is one of them. It is just too involved and all the parts need to fit too precisely for me to be comfortable making it myself. So please, if you ever decide to sell these, in parts would be fine, I could certainly follow good directions how to put the pieces together, let me know. I would be very interested. Thank you again!

    The breakfast of champions in the background was making laugh. I like the design. Ever think of using PVC 2x4?

    • @diyprojects5276
      @diyprojects5276  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No... This is the first I've hear of PVC 2x4. I'll look into it. Thank you.

      Wood is much more environmentally friendly and can be reused in other manners much more easily. PVC almost never gets disposed of property, becoming an environmental risk.

    Brilliant work, description,and entertainment. Yes entertainment, i had to giggle at 12:28...a whole lot of munching going on in the background... Any way, your video (very ingenious use of very available components) helped me with my Trommel build. Hopefully my giggling will continue through my build... we'll see. Thanks again.

      The munching was my daughter eating her potato chips... I was wondering if anyone would notice her munching in the background :) Happy to hear you've enjoyed this video. I've benefited allot from watching TH-cam videos over the years... This TH-cam channel is my attempt at giving back to the TH-cam community. Thank you.

      Your quite welcome. I too have benefited a lot from watching TH-cam videos over the years... My way to give back is to positively respond to those who deserve a positive response (and try to ignore the others). so in this case... Well done and the best of luck.

    Actually I was planning on selling my trommel on craigslist when I was done using it... hopefully sometime this fall. I've also thought about creating kits to sell on Ebay, which would be easier to ship than an assemble machine.

      This is AWESOME and I could really use one for the build of my outdoor tortoise enclosure and large garden

    Very nice build, I think I will incorporate some of these items in the build I'm working on. I'm mostly following the design from the 2014 popular mechanics article, maybe if I was starting over I would follow your plans for something a little more compact.

    Wow, great design! I was wondering what the fan was for, using it to blow light debris out from the rocks is clever!

    • @diyprojects5276
      @diyprojects5276  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you... It may seem clever, but it proved not that practical for removing plant roots. Maybe if it was a higher volume air flow fan it would have worked better.

    I've listened to your explanation of aligning the idle wheels by loosening and tightening the HEX nuts. It seems if you tightened the HEX nut on the other side of the 2x4 mount it would tend to pull the wood into the wheel and distort things. I would think that using washers as SHIMS would be a better alignment method. What am I not understanding in your explanation?

    • @diyprojects5276
      @diyprojects5276  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Short Answer: You make a good point, SHIMS would provide an effect means to position the idle wheel.
      Long Answer: When making minor adjustments (less than 1/4") to the idle wheel's position, the wood will provide enough slack for minor adjustments. I did not have any issue with distortion or pulling wood into the wheel.

    do you have estimated cost of the rock trommel?

  • @robertdietz9120
    @robertdietz9120 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    questions, what size moter is used and how many revolutions per minutes
    Also the wire of the drum is attached to the wheels but how is the two seams that run the length of the drum attacheded to keep from separating?

    • @diyprojects5276
      @diyprojects5276  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The motor is 1/4HP with a shaft speed of 87 RPM. Nylon tie straps are used every couple of inches along the wire screen seam to tie the seem together.
