"Hey Davy, you listening?" That was so sweet. I was born in 1977 but grew up watching reruns of the tv show on Nickelodeon and listening to my mother's Monkee albums. I was sad to hear that we lost Mike Nesmith. I'm sitting here now trying not to cry. I just wanna hug them both and thank them for being a part of my childhood through their music. They bring back happy memories. R.I.P Mike, Davy and Peter.

It's hard to express what the atmosphere was like in the theater. I was there and I'm still buzzing 24 hours later. Mike spoke so philosophically as if he wanted to give a final set of messages to The Monkees fans. He talked about music as a spiritual way of uniting people and how that struck him with monkeys were on stage in Hawaii when they were just young men starting out. This was a completely unique show which meditated upon the legacy of the Monkees and which features some of the most brilliant compositions by Mike and some of the most important historical vocals by Mickey, with plenty of love and acknowledgement of Peter and Davy. An excellent band, a great lighting system, an intimacy theater, a tremendous sound system, and I'll bet that the surviving Monkees went to bed last night knowing that they had touched the hearts and souls of everyone there.

I can only speak from what I seen at the Atlanta show. Very disappointing!! Mickey and the band sounded great, however as far as any kind of tribute to Peter and Davy was close to basically nothing! After the last song...all it was, was a simple thank you and good night and basically ran off stage one way and Mike went the opposite direction. No warm and fuzziness in any kind of way! They just took my money and ran..... so long!

You are so correct about juxtaposition of young(er) Mike vs. old(er) Mike. In that '86 concert, he was towering with a commanding presence and a captivating voice. Here, he is a frail old man who is literally on death's door. Man, that is sobering to see such a contrast in a man's life in two videos seen back-to-back.

Daydream believer gets to me as well. I was young then but still own my Monkees albums. My older sister who was a young teen around 67,68 loved the Monkees. She met Davey and spent some time with him back in the 80s or 90s when he was not doing any big show's. But that song reminds me of her, now gone also. And of my childhood and family who I've lost nearly all. But I remember hearing that song in the 60s. My sister like many of us would play records over and over and learn every word. We had such great music talent in the 60s,and 70s. Its actually hard to believe the amount of talent. I miss those times. And slowly we lose those who impacted our youth with joy and memories. 🕊️✌️☮️🤟🎸🎶

The Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame is beyond a joke. And has been for at least 20 years.
That a semi-adequate karaoke singer like Linda Ronstadt is in, yet the Monkees are not, is a travesty. A monstrosity! An atrocity!!!!!!! (Okay, maybe that's going too far.)
Meanwhile, anti-pop folk-schlock charlatan Joan Baez is in. (Who's next? Pop-joke artist Mrs. Miller?) Two-hit wonders the Zombies are in. (Who's next? Three-hit wonder Rupert Holmes?)
Yet Jethro Tull, the Jam, Lydia Lunch, Violent Femmes, Ted Nugent, the Replacements, Tommy Roe, Johnny Tillotson and the Cocteau Twins remain ignored.
I know that no one's opinions will ever line up exactly with another's opinions. That's why we have committees.
      But, seriously?

Heartbroken tonight. I am grateful I got to see them at the Hollywood Bowl in 1967, when I was almost 14, and again in 1988 at the Greek, this very stage, when Mike surprised us all, including Micky, Davy and Peter, with an appearance, making it all incredibly special. 5 weeks ago I danced with my bestie a dance we created 54 years ago to Michael Nesmith's "Door Into Summer." The Monkees were a part of my childhood and reminds me of my Dad, who on every Saturday would watch the Monkees with us 3 kids, and then we would play the first Monkees album, both sides, and we would dance and sing along and just act silly. This was ingrained in my childhood. My Dad passed away suddenly about 30 years ago, but I have the Monkees music on my music libraries and whenever I miss my family and my Dad, I tune in to the Monkees. RIP MIke. Your music will live on.

I was just a kid when they reemerged in the mid-80s. I had known their music because I am the youngest of six kids, but I never saw the show until then. I remember enjoying all of the episodes on MTV and they released a music video really good. I have continued to listen to '60s music since I was young and they are a big part of that soundtrack.

I think his triple bypass took a lot out of him too. Usually does with anyone who's had one...I saw them shortly before his surgery too, and he had considerably more energy than when I saw them in Illinois on Nov. 5th. He didn't play his guitar during this tour either, whereas he did at all the others.

The Monkees started my lifetime love of music when I was 7 years old. The unique talents of these four individuals brought together by a tv show, the stars aligned, and they transitioned into a real band, that started the music video. After their first two albums, written by some of the best song writers around, then to step out on their own and release Headquarters, where they wrote all but one song I believe, took guts. To me Headquarters was their best album. Talented, intelligent, creative, uplifting, groundbreaking . Should they be in the RocknRoll Hall of Fame? They are part of the foundation, it wouldn't be here without them!

This is just before Mike passed. Mickey said Mike was really struggling with his health in this concert. You can see it in his body language. RIP Michael, Peter and Davy. You 4 guys gave me great joy when I was a kid!

Thanks for sharing this. I, too, grew up a Monkees fan and Michael was my favorite Monkee. My ex-wife sent me the news of his passing and the rest of the day I was quite blue and awash with memories of my childhood. My sister and I and two friends would regularly stand in front of the hi-fi while the music played and we acted like we had instruments. I even had a stocking knit cap to match Mike's.
I recently downsized to a home more manageable for this 62 year old, and while packing I realized I only have 4 vinyl albums left. Of course they're the Monkees first four albums and all the covers are quite frayed. Yet there's no way I'd ever get rid of them. When I heard of Mike's passing I wanted to get them out and start playing them but I have no turntable. Luckily I bought matching CD's years ago and listened to them all day.
Thanks for reading. I just wanted to share my thoughts along with the other thousands of Monkee fans. RIP Davy, Peter and Mike.

this was an amazing time. I've been a fan since 1966 so seeing the final concert was something I will cherish forever. It seems Mike was having a hard time saying goodbye to the fans. Tributes to Davy and Peter were wonderful and it seemed like every one in attendance felt the connection with the band and each other. The crowd was impressive and if people don't think the Monkees still have a following look at the lack of empty seats in the stadium. I was very grateful to be there. To see the guys and so many fans. SO MANY FANS!!!! Such mixed feelings knowing this was the end of an era. But a wonderful time to meet new friends and say good-bye to others.

It's not the final concert. It's only the last stop on the final tour. They still have a few make up concerts and a cruise scheduled for next year.

@@TheBossOfProWrestling You're getting my hopes up they might put together a show with their (surviving) songwriters after all.

@@howardlevin2753 I seriously doubt that they're going to write any new songs for their remaining concerts. However, I would really love to have one more Monkees studio album. It should feature two solo songs by Peter and three solo songs by Davy where they would take their vocal tracks and lay it over top of newly recorded music with Mike and Micky singing background. That would leave eight spots open for Mike and Micky to record brand new songs to complete the album. Plus of course any bonus tracks that they might make.

    This is WONDERFUL
...beautiful. The magic was still there.
Mike could not have envisioned a better closing act before he had to leave us. Go in grace and with our deep and lasting gratitude, Papa Nez.
