My fiancé and I just got a 3D printer this week and about 5 mins into this video I was like oh my god I could 3D print cat toys! (We have 5 cats) Imagine my joy when I saw Evans toy and learned there's a link to the design! Can't wait to try it out 🤩
I did this for my dog by drilling holes in a thick plastic bottle, and she loves it! At first she was just sitting near it with the word "give" written in her eyes, but after I left the room, she started to figure things out. This is a lifesaver, because usually she just inhales her snacks (along with my fingers).
My 10 minutes of spontaneous 2 AM drilling were not in vain!

I just made Evan's today! It turned out sooo good! I threw in a little jingle ball cat toy while it was printing, so now it's extra fun! My supurrvisors love it :D

I took a few old supplement bottles and carved holes in the sides of them. I put a few large buttons inside to help tumble the treats and keep too many from coming out too quickly. The cats love them and they work great.
Honestly, I could totally see you two making something Minecraft related with resin and Evan would go crazy with the inks while Katelyn is there making a masterpiece that could rival diamonds themselves 😂

That entire drill scene was bad and rough to watch. A dear friend of mine got his hand chewed up by a drill. After the surgery, the doctors strapped a brace to his arm with rubber bands attached to posts attached to his finger bones through the skin so he could build the strength back in the muscles they reattached. He was lucky to still have his fingers. Please, use a clamp, vice and a jig to secure the drill target, and preferably use a press so that your fingers are as far away from the drill as possible. (Edit: can't write sentence)
We have a foraging ball we purchased at Pet Smart for my pitbull. It looks like Evan's, but is green and made of some sort of silicone-like super strong plastic. Every night after dinner she gets 10 - 12 treats in her "treat ball" and goes to town. She LOVES it, and will stare at you until you get up and fill it for her. They're really great toys and gives them something to occupy their minds as well as their taste buds.
Watching the drill catching and slinging the first bracing around reminded me when Rob dahm had a similar situation with his drill and a differential. The electric drills we have these days are no joke.

Top tip! You can get dedicated drill bits for plastic that are much less likely to grab violently! Or you can make your own, search for "squaring off drill bit".

Next time you should try using a step drill for enlarging the pre-drilled hole in the pvc pipe. Or use a drill bit for wood (with the center point). 👍😺

Yes! We totally should have done that instead haha
I don't think it happens due to the bit being off-center, but because it was cutting too fast and bite to the exit. Drill rarely bites when drilling wood because it's too soft. It bites in metal and hard plastic a lot tho. And i honestly think wood bit would bite even more due to sharp angle. I think the only reasonable workaround is to use drill bit with more obtuse blade angle, and decreasing pressure on the drill right before it is about to exit material. This is when it bites.
Tapered Drill works great for sheet and pipes.
This is a great way to help out most cats enjoy being indoor cats. We use this at the humane society. To get your cat interested in it faster, just play with it using your hand like they would; of course with them present. Its amazing how fast they pick it up.

For Katelyn's toy. Try filling the bottom of the lid with resin. That way you still have access to fill the tubes up with cat treats... if that makes sense...
Kate's design seems better only if it had the inner pyramid thing. Would be nice for you to 3d print the inner tube with that feature or somehow use resin to somehow create a small ledge so that the treats don't fall out so easily.

in 5th grade some of my friends pretended to be "the knights who, until recently, said nee" at recess 😂
So I know this was like a year ago but I thought I would just mention that when drilling start with a smaller size and work up to the size you want. It stops it from “biting” the material that you are drilling. I’d also suggest starting the drill before you enter the hole so that the drill is already spinning. Again that helps a lot with stopping the drill from “biting”. Hopefully this helps anyone who also has this problem. From a mechanic :) x
Use a stepped drill bit!!! Drills plastic and acrylics much easier and won’t catch 😊

Let this be a tool safety video. Improper technique all around. Katelyn could have easily broken her nose with that mishap.
Set the clutch to something lower if there is a chance of high kickback. Use the handle attachment when using a large drill bit like that. Also guys. You had the drill set to 2, which is high torque mode. Stay safe
For K’s toy, maybe insert a small rectangle of cardboard or a piece of stiff craft mesh to create a barrier so the treats won’t come out all at once. 🤔

hardcore drilling xD, for big circular objects I 3d printed some pairs of rounded jaws of flexible filament, and for small round objects like a 6 mm rod and I need to cut it with an angle grinder, I just drill a 6mm hole in 2 wooden little blocks and I clamp them to the table, If i need them to not rotate, just use some drops of super adhesive and with a propane torch later when I'm finished I just put the flame and the adhesive goes away :)

Best way to drill that giant hole and prevent it from grabbing the bit is to drill out a size or two smaller than needed and then drill the bigger sized holes to sneak up to the final hole size. ;)

Well I have some late but happy news for you. I’m also allergic to cats and want one like the supurrvisor and I would be able to! The cat just needs more baths and if you are around a cat long enough your allergies will probably stop acting out around it! (Meds may be something you need in the beginning though) And allergy friendly cat breeds does exist.

The trick to drilling plastic is speed, the drill grabbed like that because you were starting from zero. Better to have the drill spinning before it contacts the material. Also, especially with a hole that size, drilling in steps up to the final size would help.

Make a cool cat feeding bowl made of resin, wood or some kind of cool material!!!!!
The only thing is that resin is toxic and can't be used to make food items because the stuff will leech into the food.

Where Katelyn's seems to be easier to knock the goods out of, maybe use that design for food and Evan's for treats. That way the Supurrvisor doesn't over indulge.

HEY, late night wandering thoughts...here's an idea for a project, take it if you want: making your own fancy gaming dice. With resin, of course, but you can maybe try different ways of fabricating the dice and see which one makes the best and most consistent dice shapes.
And with that, I need to go to bed.
