If Alpinas are that rare then i minght buy one. Someone near me sells a tuned manual Alpina D10 witch he claims dynod over 500hp for 13k. Maybe its a great purchase.
Prior to the 'Lux' pack - to individually spec a D3, Sytner charged a £2,000.00 premium in addition to the extras to add what you wanted. It's why a lot of the D3/D3 Bi-Turbo's have a fairly basic spec - things like air con and not climate control and half leather interiors not full ones and no sat nav which isn't an issue now but the E90 screens can have CarPlay retrofitted so..... Given the cars were circa £30k as they were a £2k premium plus the VAT would have put a lot of would be Alpina owners off purchasing them and simply going for a 325D or 330D. Still this was an epic car, the engine then ended up in a 123d. Top motor too...
Taylor or Alex, please come and buy my manual e92 330d! For the very reason that it's on 315k miles with full service history and it's perfect for a mini project. Having owned my E90 323i auto for about the past 8 yrs, albeit that it is petrol, not diesel and us an auto rather than a manual, I have to agree these beemers are great daily drivers and do have an excellent chassis. As someone who had only previously owned Fiats and Alfas, owning my BMW has been overall a good experience. I love the quality of the car and the way it drives. I know everyone goes on about how good the E46 series was and it is, but the E90/92 series carried on and made numerous improvements to the 3 series, and what’s not like about that. So, good choice Taylor and nice to see this 3 series getting some recognition. 👍
I owned one of these for a few months. Probably the most comfortable car I sat in. That blend of firm but comfortable suspension is unrivalled. Parts (like suspension/tyres) are expensive, but if looked after they are a brilliant allrounder.
Me and my dad both own a E90 320d I agree with the MPG and if you take care of it and do the maintenance when needed those engines are bulletproof little warning though keep a eye on the wiring loom in the boot if that fails like mine did it’s a headache to get open to fix and can make a couple of warnings come up on the dash and couple of lights to stop working
Taylor, you are the best! Your presentation skills are top notch. A year ago I almost bought a D3 manual as well. At the end I went for an E60 530i N52 manual. Still love the D3s tho. Enjoy yours!
50mpg ain't bad. I average that around town in my R Line Scirocco diesel. Just gone from Stoke to Blsckpool on 80mpg. Boot it and it make you smile. I wasn't a diesel fan before but now I get it. Manual 6 speed , loads of torque, it's just fun when you want it. Stage 1 map on mine to. So worth getting done
Reminds me of my first car, a Volvo V40 2.0 Turbo from 2002, lovely thing, (completely battered, shouldn't have bought it in hindsight but whatever) and it was just a comfortable spacious but not big cruiser with a lot of torque and a brilliant torquecurve which meant it was just lovely to drive around in because it was always effortless. Now this is ofcourse quite a step above something like my old Volvo, that car handled like a boat and the interior was quite worn, although still incredibly comfortable. And it is very interesting! I love it Taylor, you've treated yourself nicely and rightly so.
I had a 2012 X3 20d xDrive in the past and recognize a lot of that interior. Really solid. Sold it at around 340.000 km because some things started to go (timing belt or chain, pumps, ...)
As much as I do enjoy the other content you all put out, I also enjoy the odd car review like this. While I am not much of a petrol head, I like seeing and hearing about that world and what you guys think of cars like this. Great video, keep 'em coming!
Taylor, you’re a natural tv presenter. I hear The One Show have a job opportunity, you should give them a call. Great video Taylor and Rory. Class car.
I totally agree with Taylor regarding a manual gearbox. Unfortunately due to my disability, I can't drive a manual anymore and now have auto's. The way I always looked at it was, you drive a manual but, you just steer an automatic. God! how I miss driving a manual. To me the feeling when driving a manual goes from the stick right up to your heart and I really do miss that. 😢
I drive a alpina 2010 biturbo everyday, lovely car and great fun, economical and fast, love the spec of your car, the leather is stunning, make sure the oil is changed regularly and serviced on time, you never mentioned the brakes on your car? I think the handling, braking better than any standard Bmw
I've had the e81 123d wich has the same engine (alpina took it from bmw or the other way around) Mine was remapped as well. Cracking little car and like you said great power and great econemy sold it with 311.000km on the clock, did the timingchain at about 180k out of precausion, other than that no issues. I've bought a newer f20 125d last year, remapped as well (273hp 556nm) having a blast with it. The 123d and 125d's are the hot hatches for the highmiler. shame they don't do the 125d in the newest 1 series.
I really like the alpinas now that I understand them a bit better now and the fact it's a remapped diesel. I like it. I've been in two remapped diesels as a passenger and found both to be great. And I agree with the manual bit it's annoying in stop-start traffic, but I'd say it's a price well worth paying. I also like that you've come from suvs back to a saloon, too. I doubt it's going anywhere soon, but I hope it stays.
i had a e90 individual. although the interior was box standard. outside was M kitted. the big party piece in that one was that the engine was completely hand crafted with a touch of Carbon Fibre cover
I own the earlier model, a 2007 Alpina D3 MT. It's only done 75k from new and has two previous owners. I would recommend using owners clubs for any information on these cars as BMW dealers haven't a clue. The Bi Turbo is a great car but check the timing chain as that is their weak point. Enjoy your car it's a beauty.
Think I remember you Adam. Is your D3 grey?! We had near identical mileage/condition cars, although looks like you've clocked more miles than me (maybe as am a remote worker + Don't go anywhere as cannot be ar*ed due to congested roads).
I’m with you Taylor, love manual cars, you have more control over the acceleration and speed, especially when cornering 👌🏻 Nice 3 series 😆. Don’t you find that the ride is too hard for a daily driver? With those run flat low profile tyres?
Yeah I've tuned a few N47's before, downpipe, intercooler upgrade and a remap and becomes an absolute beast, just gotta make sure that timing chain and guides are done before doing anything on them
I was seriously considering a D3 Biturbo of this era 18 months ago but the missus wouldn't let me get anything older than the car we already had (13 plate fabia montecarlo). So I ended up getting a poverty spec 17 plate petrol Giulia instead. Despite the plethora of electrical gremlins I'm still loving it :)
Another thing as well as the timing chain, check your high pressure fuel pump!!!!! Theyre a ticking time bomb on the n47, and one that my own d3 biturbo fell victim to!!!
It seems like you got an absolute peach here, not only is it a STUNNING piece of driving pleasure but it’s actually got some spec which seems to be unusual on Alpina models especially from this era! Chuffed to bits for you, Taylor.
Missing my old E90 320d M sport watching this, the chassis was great and despite not being fast the M47 never let me down and performance was adequate with a map.
Due to weird tax things in the Netherlands it makes sense for me to run a E91 as a company car. The upgrade I love the most is a MR12V CarPlay unit. I did a lot of research and this should be the best, and after more than a year of using it, I can’t recommend it higher! Enjoy your car!

Now this is ofcourse quite a step above something like my old Volvo, that car handled like a boat and the interior was quite worn, although still incredibly comfortable. And it is very interesting! I love it Taylor, you've treated yourself nicely and rightly so.
Thanks for shedding a bit of light on the Alpina; looks like a great daily.
I had a 2012 X3 20d xDrive in the past and recognize a lot of that interior. Really solid. Sold it at around 340.000 km because some things started to go (timing belt or chain, pumps, ...)
Taylor is the best presenter, we need more of this please. And yes should be called look at what bmw I bought this week.
Class car.
I like the Taylor videos :) especially the ones where he works on them
Keep them up
Lovely Alpina Taylor❤
I've had an E90 330d and they're great cars, classy, tough and easy to live with.
Only had to sell due to a growing family size.
Taylor is actually great to watch, keep up the good work mate
I totally agree with Taylor regarding a manual gearbox. Unfortunately due to my disability, I can't drive a manual anymore and now have auto's. The way I always looked at it was, you drive a manual but, you just steer an automatic. God! how I miss driving a manual. To me the feeling when driving a manual goes from the stick right up to your heart and I really do miss that. 😢
These videos are a so useful. Hearing people talk about BMWs really cures my insomnia.
Loved this vlog, T. I didn't have a clue about Alpina cars. Thanks for the learnings. Another cracking session with our main man, T.
Thats a car enthusiast with some good taste I could tell you that much.. love the wheels too!
I've had the e81 123d wich has the same engine (alpina took it from bmw or the other way around)
Mine was remapped as well.
I like these type of car reviews it would be nice to see different cars besides BMWs and SUV Porsche.
love these little reviews! alpina's we get in aus are normaly loaded up top speck units no pov pack ones interenesting to get more info about em
Taylor is in his element doing these vids - you love to see it
I really like the alpinas now that I understand them a bit better now and the fact it's a remapped diesel.
Roughly how much is it to get a timing chain done?
Think I remember you Adam. Is your D3 grey?! We had near identical mileage/condition cars, although looks like you've clocked more miles than me (maybe as am a remote worker + Don't go anywhere as cannot be ar*ed due to congested roads).
@@paulmason5152 Hi Paul yes it is. It's number 547 (December 2007). It's been retired to the garage now and only used on nice days 👍
@@ap6584 It's over a grand I would say as its an engine out job on thr Bi Turbo
@@adambrowning9215 wow ok, big job!
Taylor! You are the business! Great video many thanks 🎉
I’m with you Taylor, love manual cars, you have more control over the acceleration and speed, especially when cornering 👌🏻
Nice 3 series 😆. Don’t you find that the ride is too hard for a daily driver? With those run flat low profile tyres?
Yeah I've tuned a few N47's before, downpipe, intercooler upgrade and a remap and becomes an absolute beast, just gotta make sure that timing chain and guides are done before doing anything on them
I really am loving this new AutoTaylor channel. What a mint car as well
My two daily’s currently are a Fabia VRS Mk1 tuned by Oettinger and a 957 3.0 tdi Cayenne!
Love these videos! Go Taylor&Rory!
Finally an e9x series on the channel 🎉 buy more of them, they are great 🔥
Well presented video, lovely car! Enjoy it Taylor!
More videos like these RoRAI and TAILOR!!!! Keep the best of work!!!
Another great Taylor video. A great car for your daily drive too. Enjoy
Yeah, I really enjoy these kinds of videos. And yeah, that Alpina is exceptional!
Due to weird tax things in the Netherlands it makes sense for me to run a E91 as a company car. The upgrade I love the most is a MR12V CarPlay unit. I did a lot of research and this should be the best, and after more than a year of using it, I can’t recommend it higher! Enjoy your car!
