    Great video! Done! Use the wire and listen for sucking sound when it works! WAIT... Also, there is a rubber drain under the battery tray. DRAIN needs to be unjammed with a wire from underneath and the battery box will be emptied of water. Just go underneath and there are two drains. Either one will drain battery box.

    Some people use draino and let it sit for 20 min and the flush with water. Thanks for showing everyone the wire trick and where the water drains out the body.

    Many thanks! After a big rain, I found my trunk and battery compartment flooded. Just before orderinf gaskets, I saw this, and cleaned out the drains successfully. Also pulled the spare, battery, and battery tray assemblies, and opened the plugged drains therein. All happiness and grateful to you!

    So my big worry here, as my battery was floating..... is those rear facing openings for the roof mechanisms.
    If you're parked on a slope, with the front pointing up, and water gets in that compartment, it'll have to flow backwards through those large openings, surely?
    I don't get BMWs logic here. They put drains at the front that come our under the car, but at the back, it goes straight into the boot(trunk)

    Where does the water enter the trunk? Is it through the seal of the cloth inside the roof storing or somewhere else?

    • @robdude1969
      @robdude1969  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it runs down the roof and should drain out the areas under the roof support as shown.
      If you have never checked this for clogging, check now before it's a surprise later.
      Test it like I did mine - with a hose and lots of water. Be sure to empty trunk first.

      Let go of the open/close button when it's where you need it. I found it easier to use the key in the door method because you can see exactly where the top is and then, let go of the key when it's where you want it to be.

      @@SwtMistyLisa I stripped the whole car down to the bone and still couldnt figure it out. Im starting to think its a early model e46 convertible defect because water drains litterally in between the chassis. unless im missing a drain tube. my convertible drain hole has no drain tube its all metal. i know this because i stuck those small cams in there from the top and from the bottom.

      @@Cedry2kM1k3 I got rid of the car, i stripped the whole backseat and side panels, i think this is a design flaw with earlier e46 models. it seems to be the convertible drain holes that are draining in between the body and flowing in between the welds.

      They are separate compartments. Make sure your drains are clear up at the top mechanism to prevent any flooding. If they work properly, you won’t need to leave plugs open.

    The BIG Question!! HOW does the water get in the trunk in the first place, Robert?
    Thank you! I never was able to get the wire to go into a hole or drain, this time. Success about 3 year ago but, I was in Ca Recently( August) for the "Storm and my trunk filled a bit with water. It was even underneath the back seat. I tried but could not find the hole with a wire to get it to draw, though. Do you ar ANYBODY KNOW what the PATHWAYS ARE FOR THE DRAIN? THANKS, ROB.
