    I don't believe there is room for sexual harassment in any position/field. I also have not problems with women being firefighters, all the power to them.
    But the work and duty they have within the department and their position can not subject the general public to unnecessary risk!!
    Every situation need to be appropriate to the workers ability and I don't want a 90 lbs lady firefighter going up a latter to save my 200lbs son from a burning building, only to find out that he did not make it because she was not able to save him in that situation due to her restricted ability, but a 200 lbs man could have saved him.
    Bottom line in any emergency service, is public safety and that is what is important here!!

    • @johnr7499
      @johnr7499 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It certainly is not meant to be that way and if it was your 200lbs son/father or brother in that fire, you would be the first to question why they are sending a 90lbs women to save him. So common sense needs to play a part in this and no women wants to be the one that is sent into a burning building to save someone she know she cant!!

      John John you are exactly correct!!

    • @johnr7499

      Thank you Daisy!! All the power to women that can do what was once considered a man job, as long a public safety is not compromised.
      It goes two ways though, because we some times get very fit young men that join the police force and 20 years later they are 100lbs over weight and can not do their job chasing after a criminal without risk of a heart attack themselves.
      Lets not have 90lbs women expected to carry a 200lbs man out of a burning building and lets not have criminals get away with robbery because a 100lbs overweight police officer can't chase them and has only the option to shoot to kill in order to stop him. Its about public safety and not sexism.

      The female firefighters have to meet the exact same requirements as the male ones. The video even said that in an attempt to keep the women out, they would give them the heaviest and most difficult equipment during the training. And yet those women managed to still pass. And when they showed the boot camp footage? That young firefighter they highlighted was completing the physical better than plenty of the guys.
      Did any of those women look like they were 90lbs??? Like I wouldn't want a 90lb man being a firefighter either. You do realize that the average weight of a woman is something like 160lbs. Which is almost twice the one you gave.
      Anorexic women don't pass firefighter qualifications, so you don't have to worry about them being the ones to save your son.

      +John R There are some things that common sense is not appropriate for assessing. You obviously know nothing about ergonomics or center of gravity in relation to human physiology. It would be difficult for even a 200lb man to carry another 200lb man -- even more so than a 150lb man. Especially with all the gear and clothing they wear. All of those women portrayed in this episode were much more than 90lbs because there are minimum and maximum weight requirements for the job. Arrogance + Ignorance = Savagery. A dangerous combination and the *main* reason why we can't make it past the Dark Age mentality and fully enter the 21st century. None of what you so ridiculously state has anything to do with turning someone's air off or any other situation that threatens their Life. Animals don't even setup and endanger their own; that's uncivilized, savage behavior. Period. That goes for racism and all the other 'ISM Schisms' as well. It's time for us to grow up: Mind, Body and Spirit.

    I worked in fire stations as a security personal during a strike and it was like a high school environment. Most of those guys never seem to grow up. Man child who cannot accept that a little woman can do the same job and probably better.

    I am definitely experiencing this as a femal volunteer firefighter - not as bad, but it slowly wears at you, especially your confidence. Firefighting is such a special trade…it pushes you mentally and physically - and in that respect, is almost spiritual. It’s fun and yet demanding. I really wish I could excel in this field but dealing with people who always make you feel like the odd one out inevitably takes a toll.

    I was a volunteer fire fighter on Vancouver Island. I am female. NOT ONCE was I EVER discriminated against. Working as a team is critical to success in fighting fires. The people I worked with respect fies and were not stupid enough to put anyone at risk over something as stupid as which sexual organ you have.

    The majority of firefighters in my community are all old hockey buddies. The sons and family of the firefighters are the ones who control the drugs..also while being employed as firefighters. So discrimination against female firefighters doesn't surprise me one bit.

    The interviewer said, "Hasn't it always been that way, all white men only?" then the young lady agree. neither of the two sounds like they know the history of truths on discrimination. Now, that's some BULL! Molly Williams in 1818 read up on her and Wesley Williams 1919 ... this interview does pull out the discrimination and harassment. Brotherhood my @$$

    Look, assuming they meet the physical benchmark for doing the job (and obviously not counting the genuine and terrible cases of harassment and sexism documented here), if I had to guess as to why some men don't want to work with women, likely it has to do with men's protective instincts over women. The way I see it femininity can have a role to play in why some women go into these lines of work, and for them it may be kind of a nurturing instinct to protect snd save others, rather than masculine bravado. Or maybe it could be because of some more masculine qualities they possess, there are always going to be outliers. Whatever their reason, burning alive is one of, if not the worst ways to go, and when you hear these women's accounts of going into a burning building for the first time, the fact that they've gone in countless times after that, you don't do that to prove some kind of feminist point, you do it because were born for the job regardless of what's between your legs.

      protective instincts over women? more like protective instincts over fragile egos.
      one thing we learn about male violence against women: it happens when they feel threatened, and in no way serves to protect women. just themselves.

    • @IndigoXYZ18
      @IndigoXYZ18 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ann Burlingham Surely if you are reffering to the incidents of obvious assaults (both sexual and physical) and harassed, as documented in this video. I'd even extend that to those who left the fire department in protest over these allegations. However of the male fire fighters who did not want to work with them (which the account of these women wasn't all of them), I'm giving the benefit of the doubt that some of these firemen didn't commit felonies against these women and simply had a well meaning (if not a little misguided) reason for not wanting to work with women.

    • @annburlingham4563
      @annburlingham4563 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The benefit of your doubt is not backed by any data, in this video, other workplaces, or from other violence by men towards women, including in personal relationships.

    • @IndigoXYZ18
      @IndigoXYZ18 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ann Burlingham Well that's why it's called the benefit of the doubt, it's assuming innocence until proven guilty (or even if evidence of guilt comes to light) rather than the other way around. That's not a matter of data, rather how the lack of data is inturpited.
      All I'm saying is that it isn't reasonable to do a sexual assault and battary investigation soley on the grounds that a man doesn't want to work with a woman. That in and of itself isn't evidence of criminal conduct.
      According to these women it wasn't all the men who didn't want to work with them, and for the ones that didn't, I'm saying is that doesn't warrent an attempted murder charge (which the scum who turned off at woman's oxygen tank surely deserves). Let's just keep a cool head about this and work it out.

    • @annburlingham4563
      @annburlingham4563 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The benefit of the doubt means keeping an open mind.
      Making up your own exculpatory notions which are never offered as an excuse, in the face of well-documented evidence to the contrary, is not "the benefit of the doubt", it's something very much else.
      But sure, you explain how harassing, turning off air supply, and the other behavior, demonstrates "protective" behavior, in your view.

      Firefighting is not just about dragging a body out of a building. Someone has to drive the person to the burning building, right? A driver can be male or female. Next, for it to be safe for any firefighter to rescue, the fire has to be under control/extinguished. Someone had to hook the truck to the hydrant (not that hard physically at all), someone has to control the flow of water from the truck (not physically demanding), maybe hoist a ladder or tools, and conduct forcible entry which is often more of technique than strength. What about the command team that must observe so that a safe rescue can take place? You see, it’s a huge misconception that dragging a body or doing a kick jump on a door is required by every fire fighter. It’s about using strategy to highlight strengths and also, the fact that not all aspects of the firefighting trade requires strength
