- In his TEDxUNC 2015 talk, Chase Lewis, a 15-year-old inventor, talks about taking any tools around us - any inspiration that we can find - to stop waiting, to take action and to do something. Chase uses his personal experience doing just that for the past several years, and conveys that we ALL can do it.
Notwithstanding his young age, 15-year-old Chase Lewis has invented two life-saving devices. People usually are amazed that someone so young is an inventor, let alone an inventor with one patent and another one on the way. What amazes Chase, however, is that people often do not understand that we ALL are inventors. Chase believes there is nothing more human than invention.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx
This guy actually gave a pretty insightful talk. Definitely got some food for thought.
Also goes to show that inventions don't have to be complicated or sophisticated... You don't have to invent the "next big thing", you can invent everyday solutions to everyday problems. Always be thinking 👍
Inventing 101 is a fantastic idea, it would be worth its weight in gold in terms of teaching kids to learn how to learn and encouraging a growth mindset. Inventing is all about seeing big problems as smaller much more manageable problems with simpler solutions and who doesn’t have much to gain from further developing that skill set?
he was little nervous. nervousness is human. that's why we liked this video much.
This was actually pretty inspirational.
You know. Pretty impressive having a Ted talk at your age. Not sure if you still browse the comments. I see you tried to do a helpful thing, don’t let the negativity get you down 😄
I love how this is both inspirational and ruthlessly discouraging (he’s literally the same age as me)
It’s been some time, so I hope you’re less hard on yourself these days, but I really resonated with this feeling at one point and wanted to gently remind you that no two people have the exact same skill sets, spawn points, or maps to sort out their life.
You’re still insanely young, you’ll find the things that make you brilliant. Every step of the journey has as much meaning as the milestone ones :)
Great work buddy. How anyone disliked this is beyond me.
You came here with actually 3 ideas the first 2 were good but the 3rd one incredible I wish they would have an invention major not class
That’s really what engineering is, and there are many different branches that give you the fundamental knowledge on how to create anything is this world within the law of physics and chemistry if you can imagine it, see a problem, invent a solution. :)
I love his personality
This kid is so smart
this talk is inspirational , but seriously we need to solve the problems from the root
Inventing-human nature
Mythos-just as human
Pretty sure this is also known as problem solving and commonly referred to as farming. If we issued patents for everything a farmer came up with to solve a problem we'd have quadruple the number patents... and these two inventions would undoubtedly already be patented.
Good job little dude!
If invention was Africa's problem, they would have solved it a long time ago. Someone fed this kid a 1st world savior complex..
Nicely done!
That's an idea or innovation not invention. invention is creating a new thing never done or seen before.
Inventing is only divine
The only thing that is divine is God and Jesus
Im an inventor and i have the solution to stopping wildfires
Awesome and inspiring
Anyone recommend any book on a completely new inventor for a step by step guide?
wow, which Africa is this dude talking about? I am so lost
The Continent.
Nnamdi Nwahara idk don’t ask meh
Probably the bad part where all the charity's send the money, idk
He mentioned tens of thousands died of it. That could be a single small region that experiences this, not all of Africa.
Wow, Africa?? No not Africa, but good invention.
bro u understanddd!
frank383 lmaoooo
the condescension.
15 years old!
ماذا اخترعت وعماذا تتحدث !المخترع د-أسامة احمد باهديلة
If the kids can assemble it under 15 mins then the Africans can do it???
You're growing, next time use your words wisely
True . Sounded quite wrong
Copying a reply to a similar comment: This is me. I changed my name. Anyhow, looking back on this, you are correct. I could have been significantly more sensitive on the topic.
I'm glad I am not the only one who heard it.
Don't ever bend to what others think is right. I saw nothing wrong with what you stated, only those who would take offense to something as simple as a comment from a teenager who meant no harm whatsoever by saying it.. those people should feel offended..
cool
Africa needs a messenger, however clueless.
Is he like 15?
darrenjohnson 519 Yes
I enjoyed this lol
I doubt whether this guy has even ever stepped in Africa. There is no situation like that in any part of Africa.
This is (formerly) Chase Lewis. The original issue is very significantly less prevalent now, and really was only particularly present during the Somali famine of 2011. I'm not sure if the statistics are still available, but there were at least a few hundred deaths attributable to the causes stated in the video during that famine. That said, I don't think, looking back on it, that the travois has much utility. It suffered from some significant design flaws. In the later, bamboo iteration, some of these flaws persisted; it may still have some utility in that role, but the fact that the idea hasn't been adopted speaks for itself. It's also worth noting that the bit about difficulty transporting the sick/weak/elderly/those in delivery distress only applies in particularly remote portions of the most impoverished nations. And no, I had not (and still have not) been to any nation in Africa; I was also rather insensitive in my discussion of a number of matters relating to the people of Africa, which I regret.
@@alexislewis9504 curious, what made you change your name? I love your first name
This boy just talked about himself. I didn’t get anything real
Hola mens de biblioteca :V
Please young man before you use Africa to make example make sure you do your research well and stop making insulting statement about a place you have never been to.
What??
What was insulting??????
chuka chika how do you know he has never been there tho
What was insulting?
This is me. I changed my name. Anyhow, looking back on this, you are correct. I could have been significantly more sensitive on the topic. You are also correct that I had never been to any nation in Africa.
You should stick to comedy instead of inventing. Stand up comedy maybe? Just a friendly advice.
