I know this is a bit late, but having had key freeze problem twice I have got a little tip that may help if you are stuck. There is a tiny little solenoid in the lock on the column that is connected to the immobiliser/key function. If you don't hear the clicks( mine has dash mounted key) when inserting the key then this might help although drastic, will get you home. Remove the column shroud, 3 torx screws. If you have a helper, get them to wiggle the key as if you are trying to start the car, then 😲😲😲😲give the under side alloy part of the column a good banging with a hammer which while wiggling the key should shock the solenoid into releasing the key and you can start it. Mine doesn't have the 18 fuse. This is a one off get you home key release. Don't turn key off once started till you get home. This has happened TWICE on my 2008 and both times has got me home. I bought a used upper steering column on both occasions and it's easy to change.
great Video - the column on my l322 2007 vogue went down on power but wont come up - power going to the winding mech as I could hear the motor running when using the joy stick, removing the motor was easy enough - if you open the gear casing access (wit a Dremel tool) you'll see the little white plastic cog 10p sized has lost it's teeth and is not mating to the inner spindle from the motor. its £150+ for a new gear motor, to replace the 50p gear cog IF you can find one to match on RS etc. I used 2 part modellers resin to fuse the cog to back to the shaft (it worked well for 2 months and broke again under the huge stress and that stupid easy access which you cant turn off without a £400 iPhone app) quick fix is to wind the steering wheel into position with a 10mm spanner via the windings spindle in the column itself, pull the plug to the motor and forget it, mine is set to a central position for me and the mrs to put up with but it saves us £150 for new motor and that stupid easy access killing the battery
I have the same problem on my l322 from 2007. So you say that, when you replaced it with a resin copy, it worked fine for a little ? I was thinking it is an electronic issue as, when you shut off the engine, the radial actuator puts the steering wheel in the lower position automatically and sometimes it won’t move up even if the motor turns. Anyway I should check if the gearing looks good before making any conclusion :)
@@L663 for 3dp you should have a model (I can’t find it and making it would require precise measurements on a pristine part) and the thin thread would be not strong enough if you don’t have a 10k SLA printer with a special resin. The first problem is solvable with a few trials if you have the original part. The second problem could be solvable by inserting a common plastic nut (Nylon, Teflon or possibly some low wear polymer, not metals) into a cheap 3d printed part that fits the broken one. So with some tricks and work it could be the real cheap option! Btw thanks a lot for all these unique videos you are offering us!
hi Guys! Love your channel - and this video in particular. I have a 2009 L322, and one of the 'forks' of the steering rake adjustment, the very piece you show in this video, has broken off. (I wish I would've seen your video before it broke off, I would've disabled the function.) But now that it's broken, is it possible to just replace that one piece - or do I have to replace the entire steering column? If it's just the piece, what's it called so i can search?
Pardon me, but is the United States fuse box layout different from what I'm seeing here at 4:26, im working with a stuck column with working motor - thx
Hi - i think this is the broken carriage problem - if you can get it up to the correct level i think you are better to remove the fuse - not a full expert on this though so check out some other videos from other guys.
I've been watching your video's tutorial since I had my range rover 2004 L322 honestly I learned a lot from you and we are very thankful for that, i have a situation that my steering column sometimes tilt and move back and fort but mostly not functioning. I am having a problem with my steering wheel buttons all are not functioning but sometimes they work and most of the time doesn't work could you pls advise me what do I need to do to sort out the problem. Hope will hear from you soon and more power to all of you. Many thanks
Great videos guys. Got one for ya!! A friends vogue - when braking the steering column goes all the way down at regular speed. Any ideas where to look first?
Thanks for your videos guys!! I have found them helpful on many occasions. I have a question on a U.S. 2006 full size L322 Range Rover regarding power steering. I have a very heavy steering wheel at low speed. I've changed the pump along with fluid and the QFW 500040 rack solenoid. The problem used to be intermittent but now it is constantly heavy at low speed. I thought maybe the replacement QFW 500040 was a bad solenoid but not sure how I would test that. Do you have any videos on this or Do you have any suggestions?
The operation of my column adjustment is unpredictable. Most times it works as expected. However, other times I seem to lose all functions. Lately if the weather is cold (below freezing) I find the "easy access" position at the lowest point , so getting in can be a struggle. Once started there's a chance it will move out, but the up/down function does nothing. Most times once things warm up some I can raise it if I push the lever up and give it some assistance (push up with my leg). All other memory functions for seat, mirrors seam normal. I have not opened up the column to look yet. Do you have any thoughts of what may be causing this? Is it possible that the gears just need lubrication or is the motor wearing out?
Same here on my 2007 l322. Recently it does it almost every time and temperature outside is 35 Celsius so I would discard this correlation in my case... Have you find any solution ?
What is causing my steering wheel to go down all the way down by it self when I start my car. I can stop it by touching the handle but it won’t go up. After driving a wile I can live it up again but the steering wheel got a little life of it self :(
This is a common problem caused by the failure of a part in the steering rack. There is a lot of information on this on the forums. You can disable this feature in the software.
I’ve got a popping sound that only happens at full lock turn as I pull out of a tight parking spot. Pretty loud. What do you think the problem could be? Thanks for your intuitive video. It’s an 05 rrs sc
Thanks for this video, can you also do a video on the front and rear entertainment. My 06 rr front screen doesn’t work when you play dvd and it’s in Park . The rear headrest screens are working fine 🙂

thanks for the comments - should i look at 3D printing the cog ? would it be easy to replace ?

I have an L332 Vogue 3.0L Diesel and I’m looking to buy the diagnostic tool can you advise me on the correct diagnostic tool to get please.
Im interested as well some one help as Thank you
We had it drop permanently so had to weld the tab on so it would fix in place. We also pulled the cable to to motor to stop it
Yes pulling the cable will stop it moving that causes the wear
Mine wont go up any higher, it just able to move down. As if it is at the top limit but it actually isnt. Is there a way to reset the hight in these?
Thanks for the video!!!!! Great help
What happens if the column wheel will go down but wont go up, what to do? Thanks! Followed your videos and always loved them!

My steering wheel drops down into my lap and won't go back up. Is this fix good for this?
I think of you look at this you can take the fuse out that controls this function
hi I would need advice I L322 2004 working my memory steering wheel always goes out and immediately beneath the seat
I think this is the problem with the steering adjust motor. I think this is well know issue. One fix is the remove the fuse that controls this.

My bet would be front wishbone bushes - they are a common failure.
just what i needed. thanks
I have an issue with my L405 steering wheel. It won’t tilt or adjust but steers ok please advise
I would start by looking at the fuses. There will be a fuse for the steering wheel motor.

What model iiD tool are you using BT or Pro ? Ive just bought the BT G3 unit but I don`t seem to have that option .
I hit a pothole and now my steering doesn't go up and down
Interesting - could be a fuse - but these motor are prone to failure
Q. will this device clear airbag warning light?
Yes - as long as there is no underlying fault !
great resource
I think all HSE had that.
I need to change my rotary coupler on my 2003 vouge. No steering functions. All fuses ok. Can you help
