  • A common problem withe the early/mid Ranger Rover L322's was a steering column locking module that registered a signal from the stalk to the key barrel, allowing it to turn. When the little motor in the module gets tired , and the grease gets old and sticky, column lock no longer registers and the key will not turn. This prevents you from starting the truck. There is a temp fix whereby you pull fuse(s) 18 (and in my case 25), wait 30 seconds and plug them back in - which allows you a single restart - then you have to pull the fuses again...
I *think* that this module was discontinued somewhere in the 2008 - 2009 range.
This happened to me in South Alabama a couple of years ago - so I bought a slightly newer steering column and installed it. Another couple of hot summers with the Range Rover sitting outside my son's apartment and the 'new' module failed.
I prefer to have the module work as it should, but Col. Reb is on a long term loan to my son, until I can get his Jeep Wrangler Rubicon sold. I don't want it stranding him in a hot parking lot, having to pull Fuse 18 & 25. So I bypassed the signal by tying the loom into the ambient lighting.
I hope this saves someone from being stranded.
    Enjoy the video!
