the quality build of theses machines are simply amazing... Today, nothing compares to this... it was a time where you had metal everywhere... the old MPC were built like tanks
To be fair it also cost five thousand dollars, which is almost ten grand today. The new Akais don't have the build quality of the originals, but they do offer a lot more. Plus there are other samplers with excellent build quality and a far lower price than an old MPC, like the Isla S2400.
stringsnare Hello! Yes, we bought it soon after publishing our album where we used a lot the 909s and the 707s so we still have to do a real world test in a professional studio. It seems to me really similar in sound to S950 that I like, the interface is very clear and easy, the pad are the best: big and sensitive. I have had only some noise issues on low frequencies when I converted MPC3000 libraries but it’s not so essential if you sample yourself or if you load proprietary format floppies. Really amazing studio in a box for the time.
They used to make radios, cassette decks, video players etc. Apparently the consumer branch collapsed in late 2000. Lots of details on wikipedia if you're interested..
Used to own one, I had the first gen. Miss it. I still got a 2kxl. Just the sound coming out of that 60 though. I think that's one of the reason early 90s hiphop and beats sounded so warm. No people can make beats on their cell phones if they want.
Great jam Paolo! Thanks to this video, i could find the 'Smokers Delight' sample CD and now i'm using it with Ableton & Akai's MPC Software, top sounds!
Look at the older and smaller MPC models like the 2000 and 2500, or the newer less expensive models like 1000 and 500 - also, they have MPC style controllers only (you use the computer for the sound generation) that will give you the same type of 4x4 pad interface
Love it,...this sampler is always gonna feel fresh,..The Akai´s new line after Mpc Ren has lost that vibe,...in my opinion, Thanks a lot man for the demo much love
MPC 60 has that warmth and saturation. Like you almost dont have to master your tune after. I would like to suggest to make a video on akai legendary bank samples that were used in Garage or Boom Bap. I always wandered were they from standard floppies or straight sampled. Also i noticed a slight difference in punch with 12 bit original banks and 16 bit converted ones (that went in package with mpc2000) There is plenty of stuff to talk about.
SynthMania LOL! i searched to see what is it and found one for 90.000 brazilian reals.. Sorry mate, but by this price.. i will keep praying for you ok? 😄🙏
If anybody's interested .. I have an Akai MPC 60 mint condition for sale. Price varies based on current market, condition, so message for latest info. Willing to negotiate some. The MPC 60 was the first in the series of many follow-ups and was perhaps among, if not THE best, samplers/drum sequencers when introduced at the time. Something I know many pros will agree. There were iconic records made with it reason why it's not only sought for production work still today but also considered a classic among gear collectors.
Hello budy, how are you? could you help me please? i have a mpc4000 and i would like to play through the midi keyboard the ableton vsts sounds inside the mpc4000 string and i can't, i can use the mpc pads to play the vst yes but i wanted to play the midi keyboard to record inside the mpc , thanks for listening
I also like the logical pad layout you went for, higher notes/chord on the right, lower chords on the left much like a keyboard. Makes it very playable
I probably have to say yes, it is, but probably also for nostalgic reasons and not technical ones. When I was growing up in Europe in the late '80s/early '90s, we were all salivating behind two samplers: the S-1000 and the MPC-60 (this one, the original version). At the time, as a student I could not afford those brand new AKAIs. I bought a used Roland W-30 instead. The first gen Roland S line was a lot cheaper, something like let's say, equivalent to 2K today. The AKAI were like $5K or more in modern times or something like that... fast forward twenty-five plus years, and I have both the S1000 and the MPC60 :-D However, for technical reasons, already the MPC3000 is arguably much better than the 60, unless one prefers the 12-bit mono sound as opposed to a full stereo 16-bit. I've tried all the models that came later over the years, and had the MPC1000, they all sound really good, in a mix it would be hard to tell. Also, an Italian musician that I followed called Digital Boy (Luca Pretolesi, now a very well respected and established U.S.- based mix engineer) who made Techno (I made Techno too back then) used the MPC60 for live and I always loved the way you could be creative with the samples and the pads in the live settings, in songs like the one he played at this festival: th-cam.com/video/OEXIHOlIQW0/w-d-xo.html So I've really wanted an MPC60 since those days! I'm glad I finally got one. I want to make a video about the S1000 and MPC60...
Thank-you for the reply! Fantastic little machine and I really enjoyed your little jam. Interesting to know you feel the later models sounded good to you too. I wasn't sure if the post-Japanese Akai machines sounded all that good compared to the Japanese-made 60 and 3000. Very interesting.
They new ones sound a bit different and perhaps "too perfect" (like a lot of the modern gear of today vs the old gear) but at the end of the day, a lot of that is based on nostalgia factors, and also at the end of the day, it's the samples one loads in them that makes or breaks the song. Btw, the 60 is indeed fantastic, but it's not exactly a "little" machine :-D It's 18.5"x19.5" :-D
This actually is more like Trip-Hop... it's super easy to make, but at least it takes *some level of effort, you have to sample drums, bass and pads on the sampler, create a sequence, have a minimal arrangement etc... whereas VaporWave, from what I've heard of it and read on Wikipedia, must the be the laziest musical genre ever created :-D Basically, take (steal) a whole easy-listening track from the '80s and import it in your DAW; click on a plugin to slow it down, and click on another plugin to add cavernous reverb. Voila', VaporWave... a new genre that takes literally zero effort to make. Add the adjective "aesthetic" to refer to the movement, and add a Greek-Roman statue on the front cover (because apparently people don't know what it means so it's gotta be cool, right? Of course, for us Italians this is a SMH moment, since we know the meaning of the adjective "aesthetic" from the age of - oh, I don't know, three? Perhaps four. And grow up looking at those statues. But hey, more power to the more entrepreneurial Millennials who can swindle other Millennials into buying into this VaporWave thing and sell it... but if you ask me... I just don't see the art in taking someone else's composition in toto, add a timestretch and reverb plugins, and call it their "work"... it just doesn't seem right, and incredibly "entitled", as the Millennials are being called. Maybe I'm getting old. If I'm misinterpreting what VaporWave is, please, anybody let me know. I'm always up for being corrected on stuff I don't know well.
You are close enough to reality, despite the Millennials have little to do. Indeed, many Vaporwave tracks are existing songs of the '80s and' 90s sufficiently altered... few songs have originality. In this case, I was referring to a fairly characteristic Vaporwave style, combining repetitions and nostalgic feeling in an aesthetic context. Even self-irony, but not in this case.
Yeah, nothing against millennials, there's good and bad in every generation, I was just being sarcastic because they have the reputation of being lazy, and to my understanding, VaporWave is a new genre made by millennial-age kids, correct? Or am I wrong? :-D . But can you give me say - five to ten links to VaporWave songs that are "sufficientely altered"? I haven't heard much of that... all the ones I've heard, were basically a whole easy-listening song lifted from the '80s, and applied FX, that's it... ? P.S. :-D at "nostalgic feeling in an aesthetic context". That made lol hard. You have a good sense of humor.
the quality build of theses machines are simply amazing... Today, nothing compares to this... it was a time where you had metal everywhere... the old MPC were built like tanks

not my mpc 1000, lol
several of the plastic buttons broke
@@AfferbeckBeats well said sir.
I really miss sample CDs. Or the magazines that advertised them, for that matter. I loved your jam. The beats really do come out at night.
Thank you so much! Yes, in the evening the creative juices flow a lot. Must be the quiet...
After seeing this video, now I have a brand old MPC60 in my studio.
And? Have you actually been using it? Happy?

@@liljons6753 prolly a alot, i cant even find one for sale
I got an MPC a few years back, its definitely one of the funnest and easiest machines to jam around on.
Totally agree
I always love that it's Akai Professional, like there's a separate line called Akai Crap or Akai For Dopes.
I hate to be that guy, but they did make stuff for the *consumer* market too.
Museum Huh...I looked on their website and only saw the Professional stuff. Is it instruments or what?
They used to make radios, cassette decks, video players etc. Apparently the consumer branch collapsed in late 2000. Lots of details on wikipedia if you're interested..
yeah i have an Akai reel to Reel and an Akai receiver.
Their hi-fi gear was pretty good from what I remember. Shame they went under, really.
Very Cool - these came out during my time playing with synths but I've never seen one "played" live.
Kirk, thank you very much!
Sweet jam! You're gonna make me buy a MPC, lol

His arm must have been really tired at the end! There must be thousands of MPC60s produced! :-D
bravo, bellissima performance, macchina da sogno
nothing like the sound of multipitched electric keys sampled through a mpc 60 / 12 bit sampler... nice
Hell yeah! this is gnarly
nice vid, thanks for sharing as always
Miguel, Thank *you for watching!
Grid life
I would love to pair this with my sp404 instead of the mpd26. They're just so expensive. I wanna mess around with one so bad.

Have you tried the new one it has cv out and midi and onboard effects with the audio inputs. But i don't think it has that 16bit sound.
The 60 is 12-bit.
Your starting to make beat for DR dre?
Nice!

Thanks paolo, this inspired me to try new things with the volca sample. Are all the samples either factory or made by you?
Thank you, all samples here come from an older sample CD called "Smokers Delight"

Nice!!! I looked on my old G4 Mac and found an image of that sample CD! I forgot how laid back that cd was :-)
This is making me think Damon Albarn and the Gorillaz defintely use an MP60 in more than one of their tunes! 👌
dope
I've Been Trying To Find Out Whether Or Not Akai Went Out Of Business Or Are They Still Making MPC's?
Under new owner of Numark, Aliess and others.
I hear that kind of sounds only in Videogames. Put an Oberheim OBX beside and you have the best Time of your life. 💭🎼💐👍
Haha, I know, right? ;-) I think an OB-X sounds fantastic with everything...

No wonder I can't my drums all punchy like an Akai. I'm using all software to make beats when I should be using hardware!!!!
Music Power before you do anything drastic, try lowering your sample rate. It’ll get you a “dirtier” sound without you selling your house.
