I agree, I only caught the tail end of this exciting period you're talking about. When I started using computers in elementary school, the Intel 486 was the monster super fast machine. It ran Doom very well (very well back then was like 20 fps lol) Then when the Pentium chip came out, we got true 3d like Quake and Unreal. Point is that each generation of processing power felt like we launched 10 years into the future, and it happened every year or two. We went from Wolfenstein 3D to Unreal in five years. But around the early 2000s is when it got boring for me. Each new generation of tech is often just a new lick of paint or making something shiny that wasn't shiny enough before.
And regarding the software side of things, in the 80s most applications were written from scratch in assembly. A long way from what we can do now where you reference a library and write a five line program.

GODLIKE
i wish they would bring this back, they took down sites regarding the new release so its either not happening or they are revamping the site
Yeah it really stinks, but at least we still have an incredible series of games to play forever. We are lucky to have gotten so many Unreal titles before they gave up on it. The community has kept it alive with homemade master servers, etc. so we can still play online. Happy fragging!
@@VintageModernRemixes not if i aint got a pc 🙁
If only someone would build facing world's on fortnite in ue5, lol I wonder if epic see how many people are into it on the cash cow they might take note.
@@allanallen1835 Actually I'm surprised no one hasn't yet. Does Fortnite even have custom maps?
2Fort before it was cool
But yeah, very neat remix and extension.
Thanks! It's very 2fort-esque, especially given that just one sniper can potentially control the entire map.

Yes you are around 2005-2007 playing in high speed usa server.. map facing worlds.. good old memories ty..
Been playing since 1999 and have yet to get sick of the game. Great times.
I love this map so much that i remade it one to one in Unreal engine 5.
Probably one of the best maps with esthetics, gameplay and music all merged in one masterpiece.
From 1999 - UT99 never left my HDD

Agreed, it's the best. Do you have any screenshots or video of your U5 map?

Thanks for pinup !
You can find the links on my chanel for download and video for CTF Face Fly by, TH-cam wont let me add links
The map was intended for UT 4 but Epic announced that they were killing the UT4 so i decided to port it to UE5 and made my custom hud and some weapons.
i liked the UT 4 CTF Face, but there is something about simplicity of UT -99 but the best is UT-99, Face from UT 2004 is second favorite but it laks Forgone destruction i can't comprehensive why they decided to change sound track, but atmosphere is on point
Hi, sorry I am late to reply, comment replies get buried in other notifications. Your Face recreation looks great! I wonder what that would be like in full-blown fragfest multiplayer
@@VintageModernRemixes
Yeah, TH-cam notifications sometime sucks, but not so hard as important e mail filtering directly to spam by google.
Yeah i got carried away and, from testing the map concept of recreating the map in UE 5 i started randomly modeling the weapons based on UT99 but slightly modernized but to keep that feel of the UT99, sniper rifle is nice example slightly updated but it looks familiar,
To bad Epic killed of the UT, really the shame don't know why really
