Ocean dub is loved by the original fans from 1996. When we first heard vegeta’s new voice we all hated it. So basically it’s Drummonds original vegeta voice is the reason ocean dub is legit.
Haha, perhaps I'm in the minority of Ocean dub fans. I grew up in the 2000s, and even then, my parents wouldn't let me watch DBZ until I was 12. Luckily, by then, the entire series was online. I admittedly didn't like much of the English dub and stuck to the Japanese version - one of my primary sources of watching Dragon Ball. But while growing up, I also looked up the famous Ocean Dub that fans debated so much about. And to my surprise, I enjoyed their voicework more.
Peter is the best Goku to me, he brings the same wild child energy he brings to Rolfe which adds more dimension to Goku’s character. I believe he was a monkey boy raised in the mountains when Peter plays him.
Yep, people forget that when Chris Sabbat took over dude sounded super gruffled like Bale's Batman. Funimation had dude sounding like a roided up locker room jock after the Nail Fusion.
My first comment was deleted or never went through? Regardless, great video and thank you for answering some of the oldest burning questions of my childhood. This is the only video i found to cover the why. Most others cover media quality and release which is fine but not what happened to the studio and the sudden change in voice actors. My only feedback is to add more tags and adjust the title to make this video more searchable so it gets the love it deserves. Appreciate your efforts on this one man, great job!
I don't want to be that guy and it is a great video you've done but someone made a video like this before five years ago, going through all the different English Dubs "Dragon ball z in the Uk" It's a fantastic video I've watched it several times now because I grew up in that era.
There's nothing wrong with the FUNimation music the only thing people didn't like about it was it was just constantly playing and it wouldn't take a break even it seems that looked like it had silence

simple.... because of nostalgia, otherwise the ocean dub is only a decent/okay dub that was long ago passed by even the edited FUNImation dub, not even talking about the uncut FUNI dub.
Hi. You're very welcome to choose whichever dub you like. But I don't believe Ocean's Dub is only enjoyed simply because of nostalgia. And I don't think FUNimation thinks so, either. If so, they would never have recruited Ocean voice actor Brian Drummond to reprise his role as Vegeta in Dragon Ball Super.
@@beauferret5414 i mean the ocean vegeta voice in super was there as a nostalgic wink to old school fans as he is the "clone" of the "real" Vegeta. It was a nostalgic reference, not really deeper than that.
It's good to have conversations and debates. However, we can't assume that all other fans only like Ocean Dub because of nostalgia. As I said in my video, I can't speak for other fans but myself. But I am confident that others enjoy Ocean's Dub for more than nostalgia. MasakoX, famous for Dragon Ball Z Abridged and is perhaps the second most famous English Goku, has claimed that Peter Kelamis of Ocean Dub is his absolute favorite Goku and is the primary inspiration for his own Goku performance. Is that simply nostalgia on his part, or can MasakoX be trusted to understand his acting craft? And yes, Ocean Vegeta in DBSuper was indeed a nostalgic wink. But I'm sure FUNimation (Crunchyroll now) still wanted to create a good dub. They won't hire an actor who is just okay, no matter how nostalgic that actor's past work has been. It's good that our DB community is diverse and has various adaptations. Cheers to good debates!
I think Kai had the best dub, but I'm not gonna lie.The original funimation dub does have its good moments but Some of its lines is cringe. Btw great video man

Drummond is a what short king would actually sound like.

Damn Ocean Piccolo is fucking cool
Yep it sounds exactly the way he talks like a scary monster

Honestly, that tub of lard line from the dub of DBZ Movie 2 very much sounds like something Rolf would say anyway. LOL

Ocean music was way better. Made it seem like a scary sci fi show that for so well with the Toonami theme.
