Actually it was rated for 16,000 and turned down for 14,000. I only know this because I met the people that built the tractor.

The running engines are used to start others. The bars are used to engage the clutch on whichever engines are not running.

I believe the first engine works as a startmotor for the others. I think they maybe engaging some sort of an axel to the other engines to get them to turn over. I'm just guessing..
