This guy doesn't get a fraction of the recognition he deserves. Sensational player.
If he was English he’d have been labeled the best in his position and valued $100mil 😂 unfortunately he was Bulgarian but he truly was a joy to watch, unlucky for those who didn’t see him in hay day
You're right there, wonderful player
Fantastic player, absolute beast. He was also a mood player, some games he just didn’t bother to try it seemed.
he spent the last half of his career slowly walking around with a sneer on his face, if you get the ball to him, if he's even onside maybe, he was magical
wasn't paying attention so I can't describe the first half of his career lol
So true.
Never panicked, never rushed. Wonderful player.
He is a very well respected individual.
@respectedgentleman4322
Even when he was losing his team the game never panicked, never rushed. Loses his team trophy after trophy and record after record and doesn't care....yeah that's why he flopped at the one & ONLY giant club he played for.
@@FootkerSnooball Berbatov didn’t floped at Man utd 48 goals or okay for 108 apps and didn’t floped at Tottenham he fell of at Fulham but he had much impact in most of his games
@@no_argumets4032 Berba & Hernandez only had 1 goal difference between them in 2010/11 but Hernandez was way more important scoring in quire a few more games and vs strong teams as well and in closer matches. A quarter of Berbatov's whole tally that year came in 1 home game that ManUtd would've won anyway without his goals.
Tevez played for half the time and still scored way more 'important' goals and Tevez despite only being at ManUtd 2 years still achieved 2 of the main 3 things any ManUtd player under Ferguson for at least 4 years should achieve I.e Back-to-back PL's, FAcup, ChampionsLeague...(and it wasn't Tevez's fault he didn't get all 3) and Berbatov didn't achieve ANY of those in 4 years.
The only players I can think of managed under Ferguson for at least 4 years who also failed to achieve any of those 3 feats under Ferguson at ManUtd were J.Evans, Rafael, D.Welbeck & A.Valencia and they're not exactly rated highly are they and altogether they all cost way less than Berbatov combined (3 academy players and they did much better for their ages and Valencia in 09/10 did better in his position than Berba did in his) and they still all did better for ManUtd than Berbatov did or won more PL's and 2 still went on to win FAcup which Berba never did for anyone.
But the list of players who achieved at least 2 and many with 3 and some who achieved the feat of all 3 multiple times is huge. I easily reeled off about 45 players so there's probably more and I consider all of them more of a success at ManUtd than Berbatov heavily because of that.
In fact most players who only had 2 of the 3 or less was heavily to do with Berbaflop.
Berbatov only scored ONE goal vs a Top5 team in domestic major competitions in his ManUtd career.
He only scored in THREE ChampionsLeague games for ManUtd (zero in knockouts) and he went 3 whole years without a CL goal from late 2008 to late 2011.
His lame pen vs Everton FAcup semi-final 2009....his lame performance when he came on vs Barca in CL final that year....his misses and lack of goals in general in the season that cost ManUtd the record 4 PL's in a row 09/10, his misses at 0-0 in the virtual FAcup final 2011 vs ManCity are just some of many of his howlers at ManUtd.

one of the best touches in football history. Dude was a real baller, expert finisher

theres zidane. theres berbatov. then there is everyone else.
@@Butterpants1987 then there is Bergkamp...
@@kenzotenma3570 yes, the golden touch
His first touch, ….ball control is unmatched…
Kids today have no clue of how much of a threat and great player Berbatov was. The man had one of the best first touches in the pl, a lethal finisher, 5 star skills. A great player.
Pl? Best first touches in world football. Man was an absolute beast!
He was never much of a threat nor was he a lethal finisher.
@@DM-rc4yu seems like a mad liverpool fan 🤫
bergkamp and berbatov had the best first touch in world football
Show me footage of him actually running and not standing around with his hands on his hips and I'll agree with that assessment
This man was a genius, has arguably the best first touch in the PL, he's the closest player to Bergkamp and Cantona, technically and the way they saw the game.
Not even a question his first touch is unrivaled
@@Pukelis420 no its between him or bergkamp
Lies again? Deeper Inside
@Alex Schiffer better than bergkamp in everything except vision. Plus he could fly in planes
@@Pukelis420 Mata’s first touch is also up there but it doesn’t look as impressive because he’s not as acrobatic which could be mostly the height difference.
It was like poetry watching him play. Pure art! Absolute baller!!
Well he stood around doing nothing all game so yeah it is like looking at art
and he still did more than most other players on the team
@@Mark_Wilson1983
Whatever club you followed you loved this guy. A real virtuoso, a ballet dancer, a painter or a fine bottle of wine. This guy brought out the art of the beautiful game.
So the beautiful game is standing around with your hands on your hips while the rest of the team does your running? Give over
@@Mark_Wilson1983 It's not his job to run around he is not midfielder but to score goals and he does it pretty good. 🤷 Classic number 9
@@Mark_Wilson1983like Messi, really
Very well put sir.
Dude was so economical with his running that at times he made you think he was a lazy dude. In truth he was a genius and an artist on the field. Beyond his goals and assists, I just enjoyed watching him play, it was pure football artistry.
I thought it was funny when the media called him lazy because it showed just how out of touch they had become with the sport itself
Yep. He was one of those players who was interesting to keep an eye on, even if he wasn't actually doing something. Just seeing him sit back and observe... not running to constantly open new angles, but allowing the game to move and create the angles for him... and then he'd come alive like a silent assassin.
As the great Jock Stein said why run 40yards when you can pass it.
When Messe is doing the same they praise him for that and saying he is "scanning" the field while not running. Double standards. Berbatov never was lazy, just smart.
One of the few players ever who can play the game at his own speed. Incredible awareness
Everyone talks about his first touch. But his finishes, my God. With power and accuracy to the top corner. What a brilliant player.
What happen to him?
@@jamesgomez6 he retired
This was the player that made long sleeve jerseys look cool for me. Naturally a cool, sleek legend. His overhead goal against Liverpool still remains one of my favorites.
Berbatov was a criminally underated footballer. He had skill, pace, and composure. It was great watching him play.
He played for United, and did well there. Even got a skill move named after him (Berbaspin). He was never 'criminally underrated'
@@dwnpour4122 With all his skill, fewer people know of him than bigger names with less skill. Hence the term, criminally underated. It is my opinion, do not troll.
@@vjenkins6815 You only like him so much because he flopped at ManUtd and Chelsea ended up winning a wider range and more trophies in the period Berbaflop was at ManUtd despite ManUtd having great potential to win everything and break more records than they did during that period.
@@FootkerSnooballI'm Ken Bates era Chelsea, but I'm not a closed minded idiot. I like players based on those moments they show merit on the pitch.
And Berbatov showed quality.
@@FootkerSnooball gotta cry in every comment dontcha?
Бербатов ВЕЛИК!
Нека си имаме навсякъде българска следа, както всеки народ си има... 💪🏻😎🇧🇬
The worst thing for him was going back to his half when he scored😅
Pure example of getting maximum results with minimum effort, this guy was not lazy, he was pure intelligence! My idol and adored in whole Croatia, thank you Dimitar the Great ❤️
Even with the goals he scored against Croatia? I'll always remember both of them, especially the first one he scored while injured. The other one was a diving header for a 2-2 equalizer in 2004. 😏
Yeah so intelligent when he took a lazy pen vs Everton tried to look cool but missed like a geek and never won FAcup or ChampionsLeague
@@FootkerSnooball you're obviously bitter in your life, go have a pint and sit 🪑 in the corner you sorry soul.
@@FootkerSnooball do you go through your whole life just being negative?
@@Intz51 No...you?
I will never forget when he scored 5 goals and had the chance to score a 6th and become the first player in PL to do so but he passed the ball to Rooney with an open net in front of him for Rooney to tap it in. What a class player, the streets will never forget 👏
He's a dunce for that, now no one remembers him for something exclusive.
actually we do cause he is the only ManU player ever to score a hatrick against Liv@@thedukeofyewaland
current united squad will never pass but shoot from every angle
@@thedukeofyewaland You are writing that under a 5 min video we are watching to remember him. Where is your 5- min highlight reel from your years in the premier league? Check your ego.
@pjket4229 was the game 5-5 or something for the slightly higher probability of Rooney scoring to matter? I imagine he just didn't know or care about the record.
I am extremely proud to be Bulgarian and a Manchester United fan, I was only 8 at the time he was bought by Man Utd, but I still remember the enormous excitement, spreading in Bulgaria that we have a player joining such a club!! One of the best bulgarians to play football along with Hristo Stoichkov ❤
Hristo beast!
fo sure!!
I graduated from high school in 2008 and had to pick uni in England and chose Manchester for more than one reason (study) lol. How delighted I was that Berbo signed for Man Utd around a month before I went there to study! Good times! Martin Petrov (and Bozhinov) were at Man City at the time and I got to watch the two teams play against each other.
Stan Petrov.
Berbatov, stoichkov & Hajgi. Gylpsy football
0:58 in my opinion, probably the greatest assist in premier league history. I’m sure there are other contenders I’m not thinking of but this is just so unique and full of class
Couldn't agree more
I had to rewatch it a few times, and few times more in slow mo 😅
Agreed, I still remember this one all these years later
what? lol rooney to rvp against villa shits all over it
@@plopplop1984 granted that’s a fantastic goal and Rooney’s pass is amazing, but RVP’s first time finish is what makes that goal so special. The assist itself is not as skillful as this one
Silky smooth. A Rolls Royce of a player. Always seemed to have an extra second. Insane first touch and an expert finisher. He should get a lot more love than he does.
What an absolute baller he was. No doubt about it
Brings a tear to my eye for real. United fan for 16 years now. Great memories, such a special player. Dimitar was something else.
You actually cried?
Undisputably, football's greatest minimalist.
Does everything with the absolute least amount of effort required, it doesn't even look like he's trying. But by God he does it to PERFECTION.
When you have so much skill and natural ability it looks this way. If you are lacking then you have to put a lot more effort to compensate - run fast and throw yourself around the pitch lol.
If you are really good at something it usually looks like you are not trying, and this is valid not just for footbal.
One of my favorite players in the prem ever! Made the game look so easy. That Spurs team with Keane, Berbatov, and Lennon was really fun to watch
that goalline flick past the defender at 0:43 is one of my favourite pieces of skill I have ever seen anyone do. I could watch that 20 times in a row and never get tired of it. Brilliant.
People used to talk about his perceived lack of work rate. One thing that struck me watching him in person was the way he read the game and how he appeared to know what was going to happen several stages before it did. Why sprint when you're already where you need to be before anyone else?
Fantastic comment
the sign of a footballing genius
Technique, skills, elegance, vision, IQ... What a great player
One of my favourite players, may never be recognised as one of the greatest of all time by many, but the guy was pure class, not many could pull off the skill and technique he had
A gem of a player, one of the most underrated strikers in the Premier League.
Sounds like a weird comparison, but this guy always reminded me of Zidane. He had an amazing elegance in his play. Followed him from his Leverkusen days onwards (check out his goal against Roma).
One of my favourite players ever.
Berba was a so silky smooth with his touch. All those who said he played indifferently or didn't try hard enough just didn't see his class. Some players are so on another level, that they don't have to 'look' like they're trying. Some players just know where to be and when to be there, he saw the play developing before it actually developed, while others have to blitz their way to the same spot because they only see the play developing as it's happening. Dima was pure class and what a finisher!
Grew up watching Berba at Fulham as a young lad, have a signed photo of him up in my gym. Now, whenever I’m doing bench press, I only do 8 out of the 10 reps, but I do them sooooo damn efficiently haha
Master of first touch
He reminds me of ibrahimovic. I am younger so I never was able to see berbatov perform. Absolute wonder of a first touch, incredible awareness around the goal, and a creative flair in the moment that takes football iq and skill for granted.
This is a testament to Zlatan's longevity. To me Berba and Zlatan are from the same era!
Berbatov makes it look effortless! Such an underated player!
He was just pure class man. What a player
His technical and tactical abilities are just insane.
Berbatov was in my first pack of match attax cards. Loved him ever since. What a thrilling player
Bit of a shame newer fans won’t understand the brilliance of Berbatov. What an incredible first touch. Just insane.
My favourite player ever, his elegance, shooting, magic touches OMG
What most football fans fail to see and realize is that while most players run on the pitch, Berbatov did the running in his head. He was constantly analyzing his opponents - defenders, goalkeepers and was on the lookout for opportunities, open spaces and recognizing patterns of movement. He had an incredibly high football IQ - if you watch closely you'll see how often when he gets the ball he would take a pause to look around whether there is a teammate in a better position before he decides if he should pass ot shoot. He was playing from a bird's eye view and often was a step ahead not only before his opponents but his own teammates as well. People complained about his lack of "workrate" but that just wasn't the type of player he was - he loved improvising and making split decisions in front of goal. That's why he scored so many scissor kicks. He not only had great goalscoring instincts but vision which allowed him to create opportunities for others. He wasn't the most consistent but when he was on - he was truly on and a joy to watch, creating magic and making the difference in a game.
excellent analysis sir. He really was a top drawer player and bought so much enjoyment to the fans. I think Janusaj was the same sort of gifted player and it's a shame he never got to develop over a longer period at United.
He would do things you'd never expect effortlessly. The perfect weight to his pass to match the speed of run of his teammate and to get the right angle of approach all set on a platter. Cool as a cucumber. Hated it when people couldn't see what he brought to the team and labelled him "lazy" as they preferred headless chickens. He forever will remain Class.
Yeah like I'd never expect him to literally pass the ball straight to TimHoward vs Everton FAcup semi-final 2009 shootout....
People sleep on this guy because he wasn’t some loudmouth that ran around like a headless chicken for 90 minutes. He was that good that he never needed to. Silky smooth first touch that barely ever let him down, he made it look ridiculously easy in killing a long ball. Damn twinkle toes was smart with his positioning and had a pass on him too. Wish he came United sooner. Ronaldo, Rooney, Tevez and Berbatov struck fear into the minds and hearts of defenders everywhere.
Imagine how much berbatov would worth in today's market. Man was a genius. Lucky to saw him grace the pitch with my favorite team Manchester united.
harry kane is around 75 mill in his prime, so berbatov is around 150
His nonchalance and and first touch were spectacular.
He is my all time favorite player. Best of few blessed with great touch. Lethal Finisher.
Berbatov used to be my ultimate stress buster. Class Act 🖤
That skill against west ham, the timing, balance, elegance and execution was phenomenal. Berbatov is magic. One of the greatest the Premier league has seen without a question. His contribution to man utd 2010/11 title win is not given enough credit. Between Berbatov, bergkamp and cantona when it comes to the best first touch in the Premier league.
He was a magician with the ball ❤
He was one of the last true ballers of the game. Those types of players that dominated football 19-15 years ago,. but we will never see them again. Pure entertainment!
He reminds me of Eric Cantona...they both are with great talent and could easily turn the pitch into their art exhibition. What a player and a humble human being. Love him
2:24 I will always remember this outrageous touch, never seen anything close to it
One of the most elegant footballer to ever step on the pitch. Absolute baller.
Two years ago I talked to someone who knew nothing about football, yet acted as if they did and I wasted half an evening arguing with that person. Later that night I saw youtube video about Berbatov and had an idea. "The Berbatov Test" was born. It sounds more profound than it actually is, though. Basically, I just ask them if they know who Berbatov is and when they don't, their opinion on football is invalid.
I have never seen a forward with a better first touch than Dimitar Berbatov in my 20 years of watching football. Sublime first touch. Unmatched. Maybe only Messi's at the same level
And Ronaldinho
Tbh if you've only been watching for 20 years that's only the amount of time of a single career for some players, not sure you've been watching it long enough to make that call 🤷♂️
He literally said "in my 20 years of watching football".
What is difficult to understand about that?
ive watched many amazing players in this 42 years of life but Berbatov is one of my favorites if not my favorite
Berbatov was the kind of player I enjoy the most. Someone who could make me stand up and be "How the hell did he do that?" Something we rarely see nowadays with the level of efficiency everyone is operating with.
I miss players like him.
Ferguson paid the price when he didn't play him against Barcelona
Hmmm
Pace?
As a Bulgarian, Manchester United supporter living in England, seeing Berba at United was a dream come true. The guy has done our country very proud. I just wish we had a better national team so we could have represented better but that has nothing to do with Berba.. The fact he won premier league titles, and was top scorer of premier league ahh what great achievements :) and played with some of the best EVER Manchester United players... RESPECT MY BRO
Хубаво е да се показва как и ние българите можем, защото е така! 😊
Pure magic and quality!
Ignoring physics - If you had to pick one man to control a ball falling from space, Berba was the man!
played the game with such elegance, so much admiration for his skills
Leaving this so talented player out of the 2011 CL final was disastrous!
Skill personified, thoughtful and played with purpose-wonderful player
"Like a man in silk pyjamas shooting pigeons from a deckchair" - Guardian Journalist describing Berbatov
Looked so casual playling, so laid back, loads of space. Far from laziness, his touches and forward thinking creating the space needed to look so cool in being an absolute baller.
Genuinely my all time favourite player
Brilliant footballer. I'm glad I gave him his flower when he was playing. Unbelievable talent with supreme confidence.
Fantastic player 👏
*Здравейте от България! 🇧🇬 Бъдете здрави!* 😊
When a player makes it look that easy you know he's good.
Had a way of playing with the utmost calmness, smooth operator!!!
I've always loved him... 🔥 he's fantastic
an absolute joy to watch, such a clever player
Artist 👑
Glorious ball, indeed-that whole play was just beautiful
I still think that little flick by him at 1:00 is the best thing that's ever been done on a football pitch. Honestly. Not even joking.
Brilliant player, it is like a mix of a number 10, 09 and 11
Arsenal fan and always liked Berbatov, still do, very underrated and clutch player
Everything looks so easy. This techinque. I love it!
Reminds me of bergkamp that first touch and the vision as a striker
The legend at White Hart Lane and also Old Trafford. SkillFull plus lethal. EXCELLENT🎉🎉🎉 footwork.
remember him playing for leverkusen early, dude was using his body so well at such a young age, i think hes to guy to look at if you want to know how to use your body as a striker, phenomenal
HE PLAY SMART NOT HARD ! ! ! HE ALMOST NEVER RUN, GENIUS MAGIC TUCH OF THE BALL GREAT FINISH GREAT LOOK AT THE GAME
He has even won a trophy with spurs . A legend indeed
The type of player that makes you enjoy watching football. What a baller he was
As a bulgarian, im very proud
Yes, in 2023 it is already difficult to understand what we are watching rugby or football :). Players like Berba won't be around anytime soon...
How nice when you see the wonderful comments of the fans about Berbatov. When Ferguson left him on the bench until the end of the season and closed the door at Old Trafford, we were all very depressed. There was no logical reason for this to happen and it was unfair. We all knew it killed the career of a great talent. But that didn't stop people looking for the game's inspiration from keeping the memory of Berbatov in their hearts. Thanks!
his way of play was ahead of its time. he would have been the star if it were today.
I loved him at United - the man's first touch was probably my personal favorite of all time.
He's not fast but really skillful and clinical when finishing
Precision, accuracy and control!!!! Barba
This player was underrated due to how slow his pace was. Slow but accurate strikers are dying out in favour of quick but inaccurate ones.
One of those players that could convince you that football could be an artform.
Crazy skill 1:40
Man said 140 goal involvements in 220 games. Outstanding stats for an outstanding player. So silky and elegant. Swear he used to smoke a load as well 🤣
The silent genius. Loved him at United.
Thanks for the wonderful comment!
My older cousins supported Chelsea and I followed them.
I was too young and didn’t even knew other teams in the epl.
Until 3:00 and Berbatov scored that bicycle. I was playing while my dad was watching the match, I stopped and ever since I had been Reds.
Berbatov 💛🥰

Berbatov, Rooney, Ronaldo, Tevez - In 2008 United had an attack unit that was a force of nature.
Absolutely world class. The years I spent in White Hart Lane watching this man,we're the best of my life . Genius
Such a cool player Berbatov was. His touch was just exquisite very picturesque like a beautiful work of art. Had that arrogance about him. Loved watching him play for United. Just made everything look so masterful
