    Thanks for the help, just fitted a custom rock wall ( with ledges) into my baby’s ackie enclosure. It was a bit of a pain as the enclosure is very large ( 6ft,3ft,3ft), I ended up using plywood to create ledges and screwed it into the wall, I then covered it by using expanding foam to cover the sides and back of the vicarious then carving it out to look natrulistic. 😁

    been taking care of my brother’s ackie for two years since he started uni 100 miles away from home. unfortunately i’ve learnt a thing or two about how they love to escape… earlier this year she managed to escape for 5 days and managed to find her well underneath the bed. bought so many gadgets on amazon that day to try find her lol… in the end she seemed very content with where she ended up 🙄 one thing i’m fully convinced of is that she will only be social with my brother; he can pick her up as he pleases, but she’s not too keen on me except from when she’s being fed lol

    I know that I’m a little late, but live plant wise, I’d recommend using succulents like elephant bush and aloe vera. I’ve used both in my uromastyx’s bioactive enclosure, but the elephant bush died due to a combination of the uro digging, trampling it, and eating it. The aloe has been doing really well though

    Looks good scales !, Nice setup and your ackie looks really healthy, A nice coloration to it to, And what u are saying about them being escape artists well i couldn't agree more, If they look you back in the eyes you can see them thinking and they are really intelligent animals for sure, If i could give u a tip for cleaning ur cage, I recently have that problem to with my animals that sometimes one want to get out when i open the enclosure, What i do then is i first Always close the room door so it cant get out and get lost in the house, And then i put the ackie on my arm and it will climb up to my shoulder and chill there while i do my thing, First i was a bit scatchy about doing that because i was worried he would jump of and run away but they never do, I geuss its to risky of jump off for them :d.

    Realy cool Video!!!😀 I got some questions. My almost 1 year old ackie Monitor has got a big long tree brache, that is just enough to let hes full back bask. And when his back is basked he climbes up higher that only hes tail is on the basking spot to warm up hes tail. Should i look for a bigger branche that got more space so he can chill on there in different ways? Question number 2: So my ackie has got a large background wall where he can climb on. And a big like base where he can walk on. And he got much Space on the ground where he likes to run and tries to get out. But he only has got one burrow where he alwais sleeps in. I tried to get like hiding stones where he can go in and burrow ore just hide in. But he never uses them and never tries to borrow somewhere i Don’t want hem to just have nothing to do. What kind of stuff do you have ore use where he can burrow in? Ore what do you for hem to make it interesting. Best Video Keep this up 😀

    • @Scales13
      @Scales13  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What's up Nathan. Ok so for you first question the Idea of the basking spot being wide to warm up the animals body pertains more to the type of bulb you are using. Regular pet store spot bulbs do not give a wide enough beam of heat to warm and adult Ackie monitors body efficiency. I use indoor/outdoor 90watt par38 flood light bulbs. Which should be kept around 12 inches away from the surface of your basking area. Depending on your setup. I have another video called "Cost of everything you need for a single Ackie" which contains a link to the bulbs I use. For question 2 as far as enrichment I like to half bury stones and piece of wood so my Ackie can dig around them to start his own dens. I also switch out plastic plants from my other reptiles enclosures so he will have enrichment from different scents. You can also re arrange the enclosure every often for new digs. If you have a semi bioactive setup with insect clean up crew you Ackie can hunt those small insects which will keep them busy. Especially if you use superworms as a CUC. Hope this helps.

    Do the magnets work decently on the back of pvc? I'm about to buy a pvc enclosure soon and I dont want to buy ledges if it doesnt work very well.

    • @Scales13
      @Scales13  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They work well but it depends on the size of the animal. I got the large size rock ledges because smaller ones have weaker magnets and as my Ackie grew the smaller ledge kept falling. To save money I would just get a rock background inserted. Theres some great DIY videos on youtube and its alot cheaper and give alot more space.

    • @Scales13
      @Scales13  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also if you havnt bought your Ackie yet Plese get a 4x3x2 enclosure so it will be deep enough for a foot of substrate. Most care guide suggest a 4x2x2 but that is incorrect. I'm just saying be smarter than me.

    • @Scales13
      @Scales13  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      6 foot long 2 foot wide and 4 feet tall? Yes I believe that would be excellent for 2 of them. Just keep in mind you may need to separate at some point and your might need atleast another 4x2x2 around just in case.

    • @JBDossie
      @JBDossie 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you really want a deeper setup you could build it in two sections and use hardware to clamp the two sections together once in the room. I first got the idea when looking at the cases they transport audio and band equipment in. Ive done something similar before and used a router to create joinery on the edges so the the sections mate tightly and then used silicone to create an additional seal along with the clamps. It's more work but if it's worth it to you it might be a good solution and beats complete disassembly and reassembly.
