    I just want to say that your videos have been very helpful and thank you. I got a month old veiled chameleon about two weeks ago and a baby tortoise last Monday. Your advice and tips have helped us a lot and definitely have made it an easier process. Keep doing what you do!

    Hey! Nice video glad Stella is doing well and a lot better! I recently got a veiled chameleon like 3 days ago and he is doing very well. Not sure if he or she, I see faint spurs but that's it. When will the dart frogs come? Stella

    They looks so awesome as adults :D My Korra is just a few months old ( born in August 2015) But she acts just like an adult :D Maybe she is more skittish but i supose thats normal for such a small lizard :) But she always runs towards the glass when i enter the room waiting for food :)

    What size terrarium should a baby or juvenile be in?

    • @MikeTytula
      @MikeTytula  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Tomas Nichols 30 gallon or 40 gallon

    • @alexcrowder1673
      @alexcrowder1673 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could just get a 70 gallon adult setup right off the bat, but like he said smaller is fine until it gets bigger. I just prefer putting them in the adult enclosure right away to save money in the long run. Monitors generally don't seem to get stressed out in oversized enclosures like some other reptiles do, so theres no real downside.

    • @mitchelll899
      @mitchelll899 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alexcrowder1673 other benefit to a 40+ is the exercise if they don't want to be held to give them more space than they need with tons of cork pieces incase of climbing objects falling over. 1ft of cork round is about 3/4ths a pound so no different than another one of their kind tackling them for dominant play.

  • @rex90pawprint

    Ok, so, I'm curious, I have an enormous bearded dragon (almost 2 feet long) who is around seven years old. He never bites or shows signs of aggression and is chill with other lizards. We are planning to buy/ build him a huge viv at some point (at least 4'x3'x3') and have also been considering getting an ackie. My question is, would they be able to go in the same viv if it was big enough?

    • @MikeTytula
      @MikeTytula  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      NO! They are completely different organisms ackies need a much hotter basking spot. And will likely out compete the beardie. Mixing species in general is just not recommended.

    I know that the Basking spot needs to be between 120 to 130 degrees Farenheit but what about the traditional light in general besides the Basking spot how hot does the enclosure need to be because I'm trying to do enough research to actually start saving the money for an enclosure and I want to make sure I get both the right bulbs for the right amount of heat

    • @MikeTytula

    Its the American Douche again. I understand a larger enclosure is always better, but is my ackie really going to suffer being in a 40 gallon breeder for his first year? Ill be planning a larger, built enclosure to be used eventually.

    • @MikeTytula
      @MikeTytula  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +hardbrocklife Hoenstly I would try and build the larger enclosure ASAP

    • @hardbrocklife
      @hardbrocklife 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Mike Tytula I will. They just hatched out last month, so he will be small for a bit. I plan on building one this summer. The program I'm going through for school is year around, but I should be able to build a little at a time. Thanks for the quick reply.

    • @MikeTytula
      @MikeTytula  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      hardbrocklife oh ya then a 40 should be fine for something like 6 months maybe a year but that is pushing it haha.

    • @hardbrocklife
      @hardbrocklife 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Mike Tytula Popular opinion says 4x2x2 is acceptable for a final enclosure for one ackie? I'm thinking plywood sealed with polyurethane. Melamine seems like it would rot and mold maintaining 65-85% humidity.

      +Mike Tytula I live in the Caribbean, Barbados to be exact. The most common reptiles our pet stores have are the red foot tortoise(if you are lucky you might find one roaming around outside since they are some in the wild......I think they are native), red ear sliders and on a rare occasion you may find an iguana.

    • @MikeTytula
      @MikeTytula  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      JuniorMason They aren't native haha. And wow that's crazy!

    • @JuniorMason
      @JuniorMason 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mike Tytula lol fair enough I wasn't sure, I just know that you can find some roaming around the island. But yup that's how it is here. So I really do envy you guys that get to have such cool pets(monitors/komodo dragons being my favorite lizard)

      Bearded dragons
      PROS- Almost always docile
      -Much slower then ackies
      -Commercial diets are readily available
      -Do not need deep substrate
      CONS-Are not very "exotic"
      -Are not very active
      -Are not as smart as ackies
      Ackies
      PROS-Very active
      -Always entertaining
      -Will develop a "bond" with the owner
      -Can become very docile
      CONS-Some ackies bite... and it hurts... bad
      -No commercial diet
      -Can be skittish

    • @alexcrowder1673
      @alexcrowder1673 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Jordan Compton Very well said. Most people get butthurt when you tell them monitors are smarter than their beloved beardies. Once you've ownd a monitor though the intelligence is very noticeable. It's almost catlike intelligence. Maybe its just because my nile lives with housecats but I feel like they act similarly too. Sometimes they give you attention, and sometimes they could care less that you even exist lol.

      the cheapest you will find one is 400$ quite likely, so if you aren't willing to put in the money then I would start looking for another reptile haha. Sounds harsh I know but that is the reality with these beautiful monitors

    • @alexcrowder1673

      I know they are roughly 300$ here in Arizona. I'd go to a reptile show if you don't live in an area with lots of exotic reptile shops. You can order on-line but it's easy to have a bad experience. LLLreptile is pretty safe though for on-line sales. I'm not sure what their prices are like right now though.
