    If China did not violate international law by claiming territory it would probably have much better relations with its neighbours. Interesting how China picks on weaker countries yet does not claim territory along its border with Russia as much of China's land had been taken by the Russians in the 1800's.

    • @sphereiceberg6534
      @sphereiceberg6534 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      China's claim of the territories predates the establishment of the international law, i.e. United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), which came effective on 16 November 1994. As far as the land disputes with Russia, think they had some kind of land exchange/swap treaties signed and settled the disputes.

      Watch the Caspian report video on china. after trying to succeed using Chinese politics and failure for over 100 years china is attempting to emulate how America and European countries rose to power. The way China is behaving is similar to America during the early 20th century like claiming Cuba and parts of Panama through war sometimes. China is simply trying out the western recipe to success.

      ***** you can wait and see, if Asian countries know the US permanently leaves the arena, leaving China the only super power in the area, then it's not about trust, not about being democratic internally or not. You will see. It's human instinct

    • @fredsaga3708
      @fredsaga3708 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      ***** I don't think China wants to be anyone's enemy. Once it replaces the US in Asian pacific, it would grant you pardon. Look at these ten ASEAN countries, Thai, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Cambodia are generally very close to China; Indonesia is OK, Brunei is too small to be relevant; Singapore is flipping based on its own national interest; Philippines is already flipped towards China's side, leaving only Vietnam being somewhat hostile, but still it is flipping. You see the trend? It's not about how one country's political system is organized, it's all about geo-political check and balance. Why you believe in so deep about democracy? Because your country is half colonized by the US, so from day one when you were born, you were taught to believe so without further critical thinking. I agree that, compared with formal European empires like British empire, the USA is much more friendly. Why is that? is it because of democracy? No, it is because the USA is a Puritan country, or, it's all about culture. I agree that China should move toward democracy in the long run, however, in terms of geo-political check and balance, being democratic or not is not relevant. It's just your dream after decades of systematic brainwash.

      Mommy Jul that’s what the evil one is always after, the resources of others, will steal it for it’s own gain. all wars are started when people & nations dont like to observe God’s rules & laws, and the outcome of victory in wars doesnt always mean it’s the good that prevailed. Evil can also win oftentimes, so we mortals will know the difference between the just & good versus unjust & bad. That’s what the God of the universe is telling us, it is our cursed to live in this world, and those who embrace it will be destroyed together with it.

    Dispute goes both ways. To make the statement that china's claims worry its neighbours, wouldn't be true the other way around as well - It's also true that China worries about some of its neighbours' territorial claims. Unless you already presume that china doesn't have any legitimacy over any of these disputes?

    • @minjunyang6376
      @minjunyang6376 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      theadam22 Reasoning that china does not have a right to claim changes nothing about my original statement. If anything it just confirms there was unsaid implication that you already presume china do not have a right to claim. And indeed you did just that in your reply.

    • @minjunyang6376
      @minjunyang6376 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      theadam22 My point was that without further evidence been presented, the natural position when we encounter a dispute is to be neutral, without making rash judgement until we hear both side of argument. Indeed most news report try to present balanced view points, try to be inpartial, meaning we take sides, and when you present only one side argument, it is propaganda. So in a neutral position, you need to presume that every sides have reasons to back their claims, because if you imply china doesn't have a reason to claim without presenting your evidence, then you are wasting your time, china simply needs to say been a small nation do not give your any more rights to bully your big neighbour, been a small nation should not give you any more empathy if you claim land against a big nation. Maybe you still don't get my point. But whether china have a right to claim is another topic, and my original post is about the pretence of trying to be inpartial. You just came out said you think china shouldn't have a claim, whereas my original post is that don't imply china shouldn't claim without presenting evidence and still trying to pass as a piece of balanced report when it is not. I don't know if you will understand this, or whether you ever bother to at least search Wikipedia on the topic of south china sea dispute. But if you ever did, I'm happy to tell you as why I think china should claim, as in they may not have a strong claim, but none of the rival claimants have anything substantially stronger. Don't jump into the biggest and most confusing territorial dispute in the world at this moment, and think you got easy answer.

    japan occupied the Spratly and Paracel islands in March 1939. in 1939 pinoys are still an American colony, if as you say Spratly is part of pinoy banana land then how can the japanese occupy the territory of an American colony in 1939 two fucking YEARS BEFORE Pearl Harbor and the war between USA and Japan??

      Ur comment is just ridiculous. If there's anyone with rights to claim territories such as the Senkaku/ Diaoyu Islands then it's of course Taiwan considering it's geographical location. Taiwan is "claiming" however not enforcing these territories with military power. The aggressive People's Republic of China "founded" as late as 1949 on the other hand has no right to claim any territory since all their claims refer to claims of the true China, the Republic of China (Taiwan), while at the same time denying its existence. Right now the PRC is not owning China, it occupies the mainland of China. Before the Nazis took all those European territories during WWII the first country occupied by them was Germany, history repeats...

    • @zeiitgeist
      @zeiitgeist 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      One1 I for one has no views on what is "True" China because I don't devolve into petty side picking to support either just because one is "supposedly" the opposite of the political spectrum but I was just stating that both have claimed it and thus people can't just say that the "Commie" Chinese are making this up.

    • @one1701
      @one1701 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      zeiitgeist
      I certainly won't tell u what's wrong and what's right, that only u can decide for urself but one thing that u can think about. A country founded in 1912 is certainly older than a country founded in 1949. Now that country in 1912 was by far bigger than the one founded in 1949 however the latter one lives the dream of the older country while at the same time denying it's existence, not only regarding history but also regarding politics since the country founded in 1912 still exists at another place. In addition the younger country forces the older one as well as other nations to recognize it solely as the true of these two countries. So now one can either believe that or be sceptical because as long as the older in 1912 founded country exists, no matter where that is, the younger country probably can't be the true one or maybe doesn't even "exist".
      And regarding the claims, as I said before Taiwan has legitimate rights for claims but the most important thing is that they don't enforce any claim. The PRC not having any legitimate rights for claims uses claims of another country (Taiwan) for itself and enforces these with military power, this is just ridiculous

The indigenoues people who are living there are not chinese, they speak filipino. The thing is we live in a modern era where we have international laws such as UNCLOS and ITLOS to follow. China also signed to this, why didn't China objected at that time?...Its because they knew it was part of the philippines, china even asked permission form the philippine president in 2007 to 2008 if they can do exploration including philippine shores. When they found out that a massive oil deposits are there that can supply Chinas needs for more than a century they started developing thie 9 dash line and mind you my friend these current map is not taught by you schools when u are still young.

    • @minjunyang6376

      louie casper The degree of longitude is used by USA to show that wwhile they did have a defence treaty with Philippine, they had no obligation to protect what is disputed lands, that includes scarborough shoal and spratlys. So take your argument to the USA.
      UNCLOS is a law of convention about maritime delimitation, it does not deal with sovereignty dispute. And according to the Convention, in case of disputes over territory, maritime delineation and historic title or rights, a signatory to the Convention may refuse to accept the jurisdiction of any international justice or arbitration as long as it makes a declaration. So far, 34 countries have made such declarations based on this provision. China made its declaration back in 2006.
      Philippine is using the compromisory clause of the UNCLOS, which says the case could continue without china ever participating. But, the big but is that whatever the outcome, it's not going to be effective on china, because china enjoy an 'immunity' right granted by this very same convention.
      You are also under false impression or understanding regarding the chinese claim. The claim was filed at UN in 1947, it was not objected by anyone until in the 70s, when oil and gas were discovered. So who is the one that is after oil and gas? Not China for sure.

    I'm a Chinese born Canadian so this matter doesn't bother me much, however I do think the Chinese government is being greedy and ambitious in "claiming" territory to be their own. I don't know much about the South China Sea but about the Senkaku/Diayuu islands historically it's always been apart of Japanese territory. Theres my 2 cents.

      QUOTE: YANG YANYI, BRUSSELS, 26. MAY, 19:35
      “Real issue is dispute over territorial sovereignty”
      “The South China Sea issue has attracted much attention and media coverage.
      Some accused China of changing the status quo in the South China Sea by taking unilateral actions that caused tensions in the region.
      Some claimed that China’s refusal to recognise and accept the “award” on the South China Sea issued by the Arbitral Tribunal and established at the unilateral request of the Philippines would be “in violation of international law”.
      These arguments are biased and unjustified.
      As the waters of the South China Sea dispute have been so muddied up by certain intentional forces, it is highly necessary to help those who are truly interested in the maintenance of peace and stability in the South China Sea to get the facts and essence of the matter straight.
      China enjoys sovereignty over the South China Sea Island (the Xisha, Nansha, Zhongsha and Dongsha Islands) and the adjacent waters since ancient times.
      The Nansha Islands comprise over 230 islands, islets, sandbanks, rocks and shoals that are scattered along a 1,000 kilometer span from the southeast to the northwest of the Sea. This area was discovered and named by China as the Nansha Islands, over which China has continuously exercised sovereignty in a peaceful, effective and uninterrupted manner.
      Beginning in the 20th century, western colonial powers, including France and Japan, coveted the Nansha Islands as they colonised Southeast Asia and invaded China. Due to strong resistance from China, most of their territorial ambitions ended in failure.
      The Cairo Declaration of November 1943 proclaimed that Japan shall be stripped of all the islands in the Pacific and that all the territories Japan stole from the Chinese shall be restored to China. The 1945 Potsdam Declaration reiterated the proclamation of the Cairo Declaration.
      It has been widely recognised by the international community that the Nansha Islands and the adjacent waters belong to China, and no country ever challenged this during a long course of history.
      It was only since the 1960s and 1970s, especially after the discovery of abundant oil reserves in the Nansha waters and the coming into being of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), that some countries in the region illegally occupied 42 of China’s islands and reefs as part of the Nansha Islands in violation of the charter and fundamental principles of governing international relations.
      Based on this history, it can only be concluded that: 1. China is the victim of the South China Sea issue; 2. the real disputes are centered on sovereignty and rights over the Nansha Islands and the adjacent waters caused by illegal occupation; and 3. the other is the dispute over maritime delimitation caused by overlapping claims of maritime jurisdiction.” “Territorial sovereignty dispute is beyond the scope of UNCLOS”

    That earliest record and usage on DiaoYu island was from Ming dynasty around 1403, Japan's earliest record was around 1884 . what China want is simple, they want to regain its prosperity and become the "middle kingdom" again like the ancient time. what people in the west don't understand is that for the past two hundred years since opium war, China was very beyond in technology and faced humiliation with wars and treaties, for example, Hongkong was took way from UK. China do not want anymore of its territory be taken away again. when you want to talk about these disputes, please read some of its history too, otherwise, this kind video is just biased.

    what they didn't tell you is that China actually owned the islands back in 70s, either ROC or PRC
    But VIETNAM AND THE PHILIPPINES STOLE those islands over the years by invading the islands during the night, the Vietnamese killed Chinese soldiers on one of the reefs in South China Sea. The Philippines landed a ship on another reef in 2006, and then they started occupying it for ten years.
    Also, China isn't the first country who started building islands over the reefs, the Vietnamese did it ; the Japanese did it-They've all damaged the environment just coz of they all wanted more control; mistrust of each other.

    • @GavinLiuranium
      @GavinLiuranium 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I agree. And now do you know what is so weird? China, Vietnam and Philippines have not started to take action yet, but Japan and America are already busy asking them to do this do that, weird right? It's Chinese territory, not Japanese or American. Yes, China still owns the islands today but it is not completely stolen by other countries.

    • @mariotam417
      @mariotam417 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      under american judgement, those islands were given to China after ww2, China then gave 2 islands to Vietnam because they were communist countries. That's why China's claim on territories dispute mentions '9 dotted lines' instead of the '11 dotted lines', which China respects the Vietnamese authority on the given islands; also that was the international court of arbitration, which does not represent the international court of justice

    • @GavinLiuranium
      @GavinLiuranium 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 11 dotted line has 9 dashes in the south CHina sea, 1 between Taiwan and Japan, and 1 between Mainland China and Taiwan.
