This was probably my favorite episode so far. I really enjoy introducing new players to the hobbie, so this was a lot of fun.

This has been a great episode I am trying to get a few of my non board game friends into the hobby this helped as a starting point for them.

Great talk, I really enjoyed it. What you said about early board game experiences is so true. Some of the first games people learn about and play are actively making them shy away from board games for the rest of their lives. When I told my girlfriend that boardgaming is a big hobby of mine she thought I was crazy because she thought about Monopoly, Activity, Twister and the likes. Those "classics" are oftentimes just not a good time but people play them because they are not going to die.
However, the most important tip I would give to anyone is "Know the people you try to get into it and find out what they like". I knew that my GF loves Harry Potter since she was a child. So I bought "Battle for Hogwarts", a cooperative deck building game with a finite number of missions that you can complete. The familiarity with the theme allowed her to bring her own knowedge to the table, drop fun facts and trivia about the universe and so on, so she did not feel like a complete idiot who was only here to be taught about something. The game is mechanically very light and not enormously challeging, so by the time we finished it, she herself said that she would like to try something more complex athough just a week before she was really scared to try it and make a fool of herself.
One aspect that's very important is the social dynamic and anxiety. Some people are very shy or aren't confident enough to learn a completely new hobby while exposing theirselves in a social setting. I had to try a few games where I could safely play just with my GF (HP, Andor, Cascadia, ...) because she has that irrational fear that everyone else at the table knows what they are doing and she would be the newbie who slows everyone down and would also make herself look dumb while doing it. It wasn't feasible for her to play with 2 to 4 other players and we are still trying to get used to it. So, start slow, choose a theme where you know that the person has familiarity with it, however light this theme might be, and figure out if the person is more about immersion and a strong theme or if they care more about the game mechanics and strategic aspects instead of a strong theme.
Another thing that's important in my eyes: Have a game with luck involved but don't choose one where it's all dependant on luck. Ludo is a terrible game because you are a at the mercy of the dice roll with absolutely no room for decisions. What a player needs is agency, so they can feel accomplished when something goes right or learn what to do better next time if it doesn't. Quacks of Quedlinburg is a great game for starters because it's a risk-based game where you are in the driver's seat when it comes to the question how much more you wanna push your luck. But you could also play it safe and methodical. And even if you just have a bad game, it only lasts for about 40 minutes so you can try to do better next time. I can definitively recommend it!
