  • I bought a homestead in the heart of Italy in a region called Umbria. It was build in the mid 80's, but has undergone a few upgrades since. It needs to be cleaned up. I would like to renovate it to make it more a rustic Italian country house.

My suggestion is to make a lot of lists! Lists of things to do by season, inside, outside, garden, chicken area, etc. Then number each thing by highest to lowest priority. After 3 years in our homestead we still utilize lists. It helps us to not get too overwhelmed. As my Dad always says "One bite at a time!"

That is a good idea as sometimes ideas get lost in the big picture. Thank you! Tips are welcome. ❤

I love your house and the land it comes with. I do hope that you have a tractor! Now, what you call "problems" are really projects. That veggie area and the chicken coops look great; the wet wood can be dried in a kiln (and that wood is worth a lot of money); and get used to mice in the countryside. Learn to control the damage they cause because they live there just like you do. I wish you a very happy life in this wonderful place in Umbria, perhaps not too far from Siena, a truly beautiful city.

No tractor, but thankfully the neighbour can come help when needed. I like the thought of "problems" being projects. Thank you! Siena is very beautiful, indeed.

nice. for once a normal place. quite refreshing.
yard doesn't look too bad really. nothing a few days (or weeks) of labour (and disposal runs) can't fix. step by step and you'll get there.
