#6 May days in the countryside | Defining Happiness, Sofa Tables, Rosemary Potato Bread, Painting
What is happiness for you?
I look at what I think happiness is through making things. My days in May have been introspective, slow, and procrastinating. Through this I dive more into making things like nesting sofa tables, rosemary potato bread, and trying watercolour painting for the first time.

In Autumn of 2023, I bought a homestead in the heart of Italy in a region called Umbria. It was built in the mid 80's. It needs to be cleaned up and some good TLC. I would like to renovate it to make it more a rustic Italian country house.

What is slow living for you? I often think I am lazy. I think, “ Let’s do it faster” or “ I can be more efficient” And I can. That’s the thing. I can. I want to practice living slower. There are a lot of videos talking about slow living. What is slow living? It is being able to change the lens you view the world and how your mind process it. Living in an environment that provides balance. Desig...

“The great object of life is sensation - to feel that we exist, even if in pain. There is an ecstasy...there is life where no one intrudes: it is not that I love man less, but Nature more. ” Lord Byron I've been in Italy for 10 years. Time has flown by so fast that I still can't believe I’ve been here this long. Since getting this house, I have settled into a pretty good home routine. It is com...

It started with a little sick lost kitten, then a pregnant cat jumped in my window. Since then, 4 kittens have found their way to me for a total of 8 rescue cats. They are all sterilised, healthy and happ...

There's so much plastic in the vegetable garden, tubs, bins, and under the clay soil. Cleanup is coming along slowly. We'll go on a tour of the outbuilding and the area where I want to have chickens. In Autumn of 2023, I bought a homestead in the heart of Italy in a region called Umbria. It was build in the mid 80's. It needs to be cleaned up and some good TLC. Hi! What an interesting place! The chicken pen looks like a great place for chickens. I know from experience that it needs to be well built to keep out predators. The overhead wire will help a lot with hawks and other birds od prey. I hope all goes well for you. Janice from Arkansas USA
The set of boxes you weren't sure about look like nest boxes for the hens to lay eggs in. I'd suggest keeping the wire above and the partitions to the chicken area. That way you could use one or more sections for chickens. The chickens could be in one section while grass or veges grow in the other. Then you could let the chickens into the second section while the first section recuperates with grass or veges growing in it. Another section could also be used for berries so that the wild birds can't get at them.
Me too, I also wish I could help you. Beautiful property. Wishing you all the best. From an American expat living in Thailand.
Thank you so much! It is a slow work-in-progress. Stay cool and not sticky over there! 🙂
What's the point of tying a hoodie around your waist? You don't need to wear it - it's not cold - so, it's just getting dirty for no reason.
This is great! Am so happy for you and thank you as always for sharing.
Thanks to you!
Think i would have emptied the storage, cleaned the floor, then put back what i wanted to keep. Its more efficient that way.
No subtitles at all. Please consider deaf people who watch U-Tube renervations.
Thanks for the reminder. The 2 latest vids have full subtitles. However, I need to update a few of the older ones. I'm getting the hang of putting the subtitles on each. Thanks again for the reminder. Cheers.
When you talk to camera there are no subtitles why ?????
You are right. I need to update the subs.
Moved by your testimony 🌿
Thank you!
Shake shake shake, shake ya boooty <3
Always time to be groovy. 😁
Beautiful video! I would be making that bread over the weekend. I hope it looks as good as yours.
Thank you! I'm sure it will wonderful. P.S. It is so good toasted too.
Lovely tables, lovely storytelling 🙏🤍
Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you!
Now I want rosemary potato bread. :)
It was a very good bread!
Love your catio😍good job🐈🐕
Thank you so much!
we are in Italy and in the countryside, leave these poor cats free to go out It's a fixation among you Americans to keep cats segregated
That one thing in the chicken pen looks to be brooding boxes.
Thank you! You are probably right. I'll be keeping this piece in case. 🙂
Needs more cats. 😁
Seems to be a good answer for many questions. Haha
You did such a good job with the garage. Everything looks heavy, I'm glad you were able to pick it up. 7:54 This scene brings me calm. The colors and the lighting are beautiful. I'm a new subscriber. I'm excited to see more videos from you!
Thank you so much! I'm excited to see how things slowly come into shape. Cheers!
Wire on top of chicken run is to keep chickens safe from birds of prey 💚😬
Thank you! When I first saw the chicken coop area, all I wanted was to take it all down. But when we get chickens it will be good to have a safety wire above them. Thank you!
but seriously: what a great makeover to stain the door like that. Looks awesome. And I appreciated the drone shots for perspective of the place that you call home.
Thank you so much! I really like the linseed oil on the wood. So much to do. 🙂
if you want to avoid burning the bottom of your coffee maker thing, there is a trick; instead of putting it on your burner directly, stick it in the microwave. ;-)
LOL. That would take care of the problem, certainly. Heehe
0:11 unsolicited swipe 😂
Hahaha... Certainly was! 🤣
Damn that's a nice catio.
Thanks! Needs more summer upgrades!
Gorgeous end result! That wood stain is perfect for the door and the table :)
Thanks so much! 😊
Che bello! Un abbraccio grande! Ti saluta tanto Alessia, dice che sei bravissima!
Grazie! Lo apprezzo molto. Ciao Alessia!😊
Wow, what a difference the oil (?) on the door made!!!! ✨
You are right! It is linseed oil.
Love these videos, they are calm and fun to watch and learn from you!
Glad you like them!
Glad you like them!
That's a great looking set up for the fur babies, great job!
Thank you so much! It was fun to build. 😊
Love it❤,, what size is the catio, and size of fence mesh opening.
@@wandacollins9437 Thank you so much! It is 180cm(6feet) wide, 305cm(10feet) long, 244cm(8feet) tall. The roof is slanted. The wire mesh is 1 inch x 1 inch . Thank you for asking! Cheers.
I am most definitely going to try this!
Hope you like it! <3
Infused wine is an ancient practise going back to 3150 B.C.E. To make: Small batch 10 grams (1/4 cup) fresh rosemary leaves - washed 1.5 cups any white wine you like Wine Bottle 20 grams (1/2 cup) fresh rosemary leaves - washed 1 bottle any white wine you like Wash rosemary and dry on a towel. Put rosemary in the wine and put on the lid or cork. Keep in a cool dark place and shake once a day. The wine should infuse for at least 8 days. Strain the rosemary and drink as you like. Try it!
Wow...the people you bought this place from were slobs. So much trash they must have laughed hard when they left you to clean up the mess and basically start from scratch.
It is a wee bit daunting to look at, to say the least. However, looking forward is the way to go! With a little elbow grease, it will be transformed. Let's look to the future!
starting around 8:04, all the trees with ivy on them ... I would love to take all the ivy off of them to make it healthier! Great video and so interesting! Thank you for sharing this adventure with us!
Indeed! With time, the place will come alive. <3
It's so beautiful there. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much!
Magnifique
Merci!
Wow what a wonderful property! The wooden cupboard with box like shelves at the end of the chicken enclosure you showed are nesting boxes for the chickens to lay eggs in. They look in great condition if you are planning on having chickens. The chicken enclosure is great with the netting over the top for predators. The olive trees look pretty healthy. What beautiful trees. You are doing a great job just remember to take it slowly and enjoy your new home.
Ah! Nesting boxes! Thank you. Yes, I would like chickens for sure. Thank you so much!
So wonderful! A bit scary hey! But I know you'll do so great, making it your own slice of heaven! Keep up the awesome work! You got this! P.s. I've been watching a lot and the first thing everyone does is rip the chicken enclosure apart. Get their chickens, let them free range, chickens dye, they cry, it's sad. The birds of prey are serious and if they get free food they get it. If you want a profit raising, selling chickens and rabbits, side hustle maybe...they will need that cover:) See you soon, keep us posted! 😊thanks
Thank you for the tips, really! I am all ears. Yes, they will be protected as I don't want any of my animals to be sad. The enclosure is dirty and will be cleaned for sure but I'm not sure what it will turn into. As of now, I'm not thinking of livestock for profit. I am still getting to know the place. A fun journey for sure. Have a great day!
I'm so excited to come along on this project. Thank you for sharing with us all. Those doggos are so cute!
You are so welcome! They are good helpers. It's fun to see the place slowly improve. Slowly!
Frank and Jojo's lil head tilts 😍
They are little creepers.
So much potential
It does! With time and TLC, it will be a very nice place.
Wow! That's a beautiful wooden trunk.
Don't be suspicious
So exciting! Can't wait to go on the journey with you through TH-cam and... I'm waiting for some chickens hehe
That's going to be a good day when they arrive!
I love your house and the land it comes with. I do hope that you have a tractor! Now, what you call "problems" are really projects. That veggie area and the chicken coops look great; the wet wood can be dried in a kiln (and that wood is worth a lot of money); and get used to mice in the countryside. Learn to control the damage they cause because they live there just like you do. I wish you a very happy life in this wonderful place in Umbria, perhaps not too far from Siena, a truly beautiful city.
No tractor, but thankfully the neighbour can come help when needed. I like the thought of "problems" being projects. Thank you! Siena is very beautiful, indeed.
nice. for once a normal place. quite refreshing. yard doesn't look too bad really. nothing a few days (or weeks) of labour (and disposal runs) can't fix. step by step and you'll get there.
Thank you. The great clean up is happening! You are right, little by little and step by step.
I can hep you, I've lived in Umbria and I'm rather handy with renovations and garden/outdoor work as well
Thank you.
Ouch...a bit of an impulse buy?
such a beatytiful area
It is! Thank you.
