CX-5 is the benchmark for smaller SUVs. I have owned 2 CX-7s, and my current one is about to die at 140k Miles, so I'm looking for a new Mazda. They are so fun to drive !! Is yours a Turbo engine or a standard?
You had me at no CVT! Mazda is super smart to stay away from CVT's. I am surprised they don't sell more cars for that reason alone. Great review. Thanks, Chris in MT.
They are selling quite well thanks to the 6 speed torque converter transmission in Australia. Mazda has beaten Nissan, Mitsubishi and Honda and sits just after Toyota. However, Korean brands are strong in the recent decade.
I guess Americans have not figured out that CVT's are no bueno. I read a message board for mechanics. They all said to stay away from CVT's. Some said the Subaru's are a little better but at 100K miles you are gonna have problems. Mazda, Ford and the German cars are the best options at this point.
I did not realize that the Rav4 had a regular automatic. I will have to check that out. I have heard the Escorts aren't great although a friend of mine has one and likes it.
AMEN-- can't stand CERTIFIABLE VERIFIED TRASH in any vehicle. I've talked to a bunch of mechanics- some factory trained and master mechanics and they ALL hate to see these things coming.. some won't even bother! I think they would also have been better to stay with V-6-- plenty of power and same or better mpg!!!
My daughter and her husband just purchased a mid-range CX-50. They love the vehicle. I have never seen so many empty slots on a dash as on this trim. Thank you for the video.
I just got the 2024 CX-50 Select which is the base model and I absolutely love it. I have a Highlander, Outback and Forester but I love this car so much I don’t think I will buy anything but a Mazda going forward. The other cars are very good but the look of the Mazda and the way it drives takes it to another level in my opinion. Highlander drives great but it’s a lot more expensive. Subaru is a beast in the snow but not as fun for daily driving compared to the Mazda. Still a very safe and reliable car if you are thinking about a Subaru. Great review Kenny!!
Gotta say, this is the first time I've seen one of your reviews. TBH, one of the most comprehensive reviewers I've seen. Thought it was great how you actually showed how the info system worked and what all the buttons were about. About the vehicle, I like it but would wait for the hybrid to come out and, fingers crossed, they keep the auto and not hook it up to a cvt.
Again thanks for reviewing the more affordable trims which is why I enjoy watching. Most of us do not want to spend 40 thousand and up. Because of the no CVT and the NA engine, I would not be a afraid to buy used. You are one of my favorites! If you get a chance I would love to see a review on a 2024 Mazda 3 sedan in the preferred trim. Great job!
I have a 2018 CX5 that has been 100% reliable with 85,000 miles. Mazda designs some nice vehicles. It would be nice to see them refresh the interior since it doesn't look that much different from my 18.
I just bought a Premium in Polymetal Gray a couple months ago, and I agree with essentially everything in the review. It's a great vehicle, has more than adequate power with the N/A engine, which the transmission does a good job of keeping in its power band. I got 30.1 MPG on a recent 380-mile trip of mostly highway driving at 65-75 MPH; getting 27-28 in rural driving. It's my first Mazda and probably won't be my last.
Great question about the 2024 Mazda CX-50 Premium! It's always exciting to explore the differences between car models, and your video sounds like the perfect guide for anyone curious about the CX-50 and how it stands out from the CX-5. Can't wait to see your insights and comparisons - keep up the awesome work with these informative videos! 👍🚗💡
I have. ‘21 CX-5 with the same engine and transmission. I was a Toyota fan for a while until I picked up my Mazda. The Mazda is very comfortable and very quiet. Along with great gas mileage. Also it’s made in Japan (where you want them to be made).
LOL! The Mazda convoy was cute! Great review of the Mazda CX 50! I have a CX 50 premium plus and I really like this car! It has significantly less power than my previous vehicle, with the naturally aspirated engine, but after learning to be a little bit heavier on the foot pedal, I have no problems getting around with it. And, yes, I do believe the transmission will learn your way of driving.
@@703Speed when I was shopping, I test drove the N/A CX-50 back to back with a Turbo CX50 and a turbo CX5. Weirdly enough, I felt the driver's seat back was to firm on the CX5 and the center armrest was too short. Although the seats are firm on the CX50, I'm able to make the driver's seat conform to my back perfect? The Turbo engine on the CX50 seemed louder for some reason than the N/A engine on the CX50 under normal acceleration or maybe even idling
Wife just got his. Ingot blue premium Cx-50. Wow it's a lot nice than we thought it would be. Thought the NA engine would feel slow, but it doesn't at all actually. And you can get 0% for 60 this month on premium up which is still fairly rare.
Good info and timely considering I've been deciding which CX50 to buy and it came down to the premium. Mainly because of the 17 in tires like I have on my 2013 CX5. 20 in tires in the poconos is a great way to blow a tire and damage a wheel. I plan to add the optional rear view mirror with garage door opener. BTW the 2.5 engine is powerful enough considering my 2013 cx5 only had a 2.0 155 hp and it was adequate up to 85 MPH after that it got winded a bit.
dude! you are by far the most detailed car reviewer on TH-cam thus far! You got me with the turn signal sounds haha! Still I do appreciate the details you cover! for that, you get my sub and my like!
Just got a 2024 CX-50 Preferred with options. Absolutely love it. Also own a Forester Wilderness which I also love. The CVT is surprisingly good but Subaru changed it a bit for the Wilderness trim, but having a 6 speed auto in the CX-50 is great. Vehicle serves as my wife and I's street vehicle and we use the Forester Wilderness for camping light off-roading. Mazda is killing it with the SUV designs. They are all beautiful.
You are SO right! That Satin Chrome accent at the rear of the side windows is very interesting! I never noticed that design treatment before you pointed it out!
I wish I got this car, I ended up with a G70 3.3T (yes its a very diff car) but something about the cx-50 really catches my attention, to me it was comfortable, and drove great and the size was perfect. might get rid of the genesis if the insurance rates keep rising in florida and get the mazda. (tho i want to see the cx-70 first)
I was hoping to hear you say the wireless charging pad didn't work on your iPhone 14 Pro Max! I just test drove and am purchasing a CX50 but the wireless charging pad doesn't work on all of our phones. Apparently it's a known issue. You mentioned that your phone wasn't charging "yet" but fact is it wasn't going to even start to charge :)
I have a 2019 CX-5 and I test drove a CX-50 the last time time I had it serviced. IMO the CX-50 is not worth it without the turbo engine. My current CX-5 which is smaller and lighter has the same engine as the CX-50 and too me it already feels a little sluggish.
Have a 2018 Tiguan SE and car shopping. Saw my first irl CX 50 yesterday and it did not disappoint. It looks luxury. I'm resentful you have to upgrade just to get Sirius which is standard on VW's base trim as it should be. Feels like a hostile greedy move by Mazda or an uneducated one to leave it off. Both are leaning toward ruling it out for me
They really are behind the curve with that digital screen. Everybody else has a decent size touchscreen and they got that little teeny thing. Maps would be brutal on that.
Love the vehicle,...hate the black plastic wheel well edges. Absolutely TOO BIG and gawdy. Big turnoff...unless you get black or dark gray colors. I get that it helps with scratches, but come on! They should at least have one trim level that gets rid of the plastic and has same color trim to avoid the black.
Mazdas even said themselves that they won’t do CVT’s. Like Japan never believe in Japan. It’s a trend where people want fuel economy that it started before with the CVT.

This car in non turbo is very slow. Cx5 has better performance power wise with same NA engine. Then the gas mileage is not good either, way behind competition. Wonder why Mazda struggles to sell it.
I can't figure out the life of me why the cx 30 50 70 and 90 exist. Just replace the cx 3 5 9 with these models. Waaaay too much overlap. Unfortunately the 30 50 70 interiors have a lot more plastic. Not a big fan.

Have you had any issues with the cylinder deactivation feature?
Needs a bigger screen. This does look dated inside.
Needs more power in base model. Do not want a turbo motor. Longevity issues.
I test drove one. My two main creature comfort complaints: 1. No parking sensors 2. No garage door openers
Exactly what I was looking for in a review of the CX-50 Premium. Thank you!
Thanks for the review. I am actually in Centreville and I will be shopping for a new car at this dealer this Saturday (if it doesn't rain....)
Please be sure to mention 703speed when you go in!
Mazda has always made a great car. I loved my MX6.

The power control for the hvac functions is because the heated steering wheel control button is located on the far left on higher trim levels.

The CX50 turbo is on my shortlist, but I just can't warm up to Mazda's minimalist interior design. I'll most likely go with the Acura RDX Advance.
They could have some softer material and leather on the upper door portion instead of that panoramic roof.
Good review. Love the look of the CX-50

CVT= early trans fail, could be good but heat and slippage are problems not solved yet

Roof crossbars causes wind noise and hurts the gas mileage.
