The passing of Bernard Hill and the reaction to his death is a reminder of the biggest difference in quality between the trilogy and rings of power. When one of the cast of rings of power dies, no one is going to know or care
That is the least atrocious bastardizing of the 2nd Age time line. Sauron was already established in Middle Earth 600 years before he took Elvish form and forged the rings of power (and his presence was well known to be there by its inhabitants. It was no secret). Then he was defeated a 100 years later, took refuge and finished Bar-radur, then another 1700 years passed before he was defeated and taken to Numenor as a prisoner and THEN we see Isildur and Elendil on the scene. The ROP series mushes it altogether and completely out of order in events, and throws in Gandalf and a Balrog (who didn't even show up until the 3rd Age) for good measure.
Remember the days when a diverse cast was just a cast without queer propaganda and without lecturing? We had a black Vulcan, a female Starfleet Captain, a gay time traveller, all colours, all races all over and no one cared, because the writing was great, the acting was great and no one told us how to live our lives.
The only reason they mentioned diversity is because the journalist baited them with the question and they answered it, the journalist ran with it and made it about the diversity essentially taking the whole interviews out of context.
The diversity being shoehorned into EVERYTHING, really takes me out of the moment. If it's organic or done well, no problem but everything has become so hamfisted and extremely preachy. Can't I escape a bit?
But but LotR was all-white and male-driven, that's sooooo rrrrrracist and so yesterday. Good thing we have Amazon rushing to our aid, fixing problematic Tolkien with the first elf of color, the first dwarf of color, and warrior-Barfladriel. DEI is the quality of current day!
My favorite part was when Guyladriel called the emergency meeting and all the other elves sussed out the imposter, after she found a wig on the forge floor.

The worst part of Gladiriel was she just looks like a reasonably young, okay-looking soccer-mom doing cosplay. There is not any 'tall, elven ethereal beauty' in her. Yet there she is...
agreed. Gary mentioned some actress I'd never seen before and holy shit SHE would have been a perfect Gladiriel. but with such shitty scripts, no actor could save ROP.
Some makeup, costuming, and attitude adjustments would have made a big difference. It's mostly the woman doing her best impression of a man act that ruins it because it reflects a common trend with single women today
I kinda feel bad for her. Imagine being cast as Galadriel, a symbol of femininity and feminine power only to end up tangled in this shitshow of a show. You can clearly see that she wasn't very happy when she had to anounce, that there is a tempest in her.
She could still carry it off despite her stature if she were a better actress and carried herself with confidence, strength and dignity. She is badly miscast, and the poor girl knows it.
Tolken's books were set in a mystical world reflecting the high middle ages of northern Europe. But these adaptations have betrayed that legacy by putting in non-white characters who would never have fit into Tolken's world. Are we now going to make a version of Mulan or the Monkey King with lots of non Chinese (black) actors just to be PC? Or how about a movie of the Zulus 150 years ago peppered with random white characters completely out of place in such a setting? I see a double standard.
Imagine time travelling back 20 years and trying to convince people that every production of Star Wars, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, Indiana Jones, Doctor Who, Aliens, and more would be complete trash focused on identity and the only enjoyment people got out of them was endlessly mocking their shittiness.
I agree except the Star wars thing, the prequels came out which weren't so bad but the reboots were AWFUL. The 2010's age is what killed every famous IP

The Rings of Power is the reason I personally boycotted Amazon Prime video content. They wasted so much money on this failure, they charged members extra money to remove ads that were never there in the first place under the constantly rising Prime membership fee so they could recoup their losses. I didn’t finish season 1 and I only plan to find out what happens from Gary’s hilarious reviews.
I said this on the trailer and I was say it here. When August 29 comes with the next chapter of poorly written, delusional and insulting fanfiction, all true Tolkien fans should stream the LotR trilogy. I would love to see the numbers of LotR stream vs RoP Season 2 on that date.
You're forgetting the redistribution of wealth, and raising of a new donor class. They don't need to make money from this, because they make money from their actual product delivery. This is about elevating and giving credit to underperforming activists so they can continue to hire OTHER activists and shrink the ability of quality material being made. It's colonizing at its finest. These types even have flags they plant where they land.
Who knew?! Making a show set in an era you didn't buy the rights for (The Silmarillion) for the sole purpose of making up your own story and inserting your own politics, then slapping LOTR on the title and expecting the audience you disrespected to support it was an awful idea! This surprised no one; only Amazon.
The rights problem doesn't realy add up either, concidering that the Appendices has the entire timeline of the second age, and a handy summary about Numenor and it's people, and some more stuff.
Apparently, Jeff Bezos son is a huge Tolkien fan and told his father when they announced this show: "Do NOT let them screw this up!" I´m curious what he said to his dad, after season 1 came out.
A note from Tolkien: "The significance of a myth is not easily to be pinned on paper by analytical reasoning. It is at its best when it is presented by a poet who feels rather than makes explicit what his theme portends; who presents it incarnate in the world of history and geography, as our poet has done. Its defender is thus at a disadvantage: unless he is careful, and speaks in parables, he will kill what he is studying by vivisection, and he will be left with a formal or mechanical allegory, and what is more, probably with one that will not work. For myth is alive at once and in all its parts, and dies before it can be dissected." "Beowulf: The Monsters and the Critics" (1936), p. 14

This season 2 of Lord of the rings is not going to care anything about caliborn galadriel's husband because this is woke. This is intersectional feminism as part of wokism
Right? I don't attend church- I certainly don't want that experience replicated by a droning, vapid social sermon in every new rebooted retread of a previously good property.
I mean at this point in time Galadriel is supposed to be a MOTHER...her daughter Celebrian was born in the Second Age! And Celebrian is future wife of Elrond and mother of Arwen and her brothers Elladan and Elrohir...so yeah...Galadriel at this point in time is a happily married and mother...and a leader with her own following of people....sharing time between family life and her leadership and poltiics basically, being a ruler, leader busy establishing and managing the elven realms! Not some solider girl...but a proper noble woman and 'queen' except bearing no title of one...she technically is under the High King of the Noldor anyway, but since she is also a member of royalty she is family with Gil-galad with high position.
Who gives a crap whether it is 'woke' or not? If you think that is the biggest problem with ROP, you can't be much of a Tolkien fan. The horror of this show is the complete disregard for the events, characters and chronology of the 2nd Age and taking events of the 3rd Age and throwing them in to boot. Everyone whining about feminism, black elves and hobbits, girl power and woke-ism are totally missing the major issue of the show completely disregarding the written source material, twisting it and destroying it.

"Tom was telling an absurd story about badgers and their queer ways" as was mentioned in the Fellowship book...but it's the Adventures of Tom Bombadil poems that really show their evil ;) " Then Tom hurried on. Rain began to shiver, round rings spattering in the running river; a wind blew, shaken leaves chilly drops were dripping; into a sheltering hole Old Tom went skipping. Out came Badger-brock with his snowy forehead and his dark blinking eyes. In the hill he quarried with his wife and many sons. By the coat they caught him, pulled him inside their earth, down their tunnels brought him. Inside their secret house, there they sat a-mumbling: ‘Ho, Tom Bombadil! Where have you come tumbling, bursting in the front-door? Badger-folk have caught you. You’ll never find it out, the way that we have brought you!’ ‘Now, old Badger-brock, do you hear me talking? You show me out at once! I must be a-walking. Show me to your backdoor under briar-roses; then clean grimy paws, wipe your earthy noses! Go back to sleep again on your straw pillow, like fair Goldberry and Old Man Willow!’"
Amazon had a golden opportunity to make this into what House of Dragon was for Game of Thrones. Not only bring back your loyal fans, but gain new & younger ones too in the process. Instead, they decided to take the routes of the Witcher, Doctor Who, & Wheel of Time instead! I pray that after the failure that is season 2, this new War of the Rohirrim movie coming out in December will help redeem the legacy/lore of Lord of the Rings while simultaneously exposing to Amazon how the success of that movie could have been theirs if they had actually tried to honor & respect the lore that Tolkien was trying to show in his works.
I disagree, the entire project was completely irredeemable because the foundations are tainted with subverting themes which contradict Tolkiens entire work
@@PeyoteCoyote97 Yeah I recall there being a Tolkien expert (Shippey I believe was his name) who was originally on the Amazon team but got fired due to him making it clear that they were ruining the lore and legacy of Tolkien with this show. The Annatar character is so mid-looking. He's supposed to be so dazzlingly beautiful that he's able to easily fool the Elves, aka "The Wisest and Fairest of All Beings." This dude, though? He looks like a copy and paste version of a LOTR extra.
The trailer makes me wish they *had* cast that British-Indian actor as Annatar. At least that way there would be some excuse for "we had no idea this mysterious stranger was Sauron" instead of "Halbrand in a wig fooled us yet again, yes we are all literally too stupid to live".
@@paj-bn8pe Charlie Vickers is okay looking. I don't consider him particularly handsome, but tastes differ. He is not, however, the kind of ethereal elegant looks that one of the Maiar, in their fair form, should have. And given that it's just "same actor in a wig" then the plot is all confused; if Sauron was there before as Annatar, then how did Galadriel not recognise him as Halbrand? If Sauron has come back now as Annatar, same problem: Celebrimbor saw Halbrand up close, how can he not recognise "Huh - this guy looks exactly like Halbrand"?
I'd like to say that the Tolkien Estate fought the good fight and kept hack TV producers from destroying the Professor's legacy...but Hollywood is no fairy tale.
Wait, Bernard Hill passed away?? I'm so ashamed that this is the first I've heard of it. Rest in peace, Mr. Hill. You were a terrific actor. There will never be another King Theoden like you.
Can we all appreciate for just a second, that Amazon apparently now makes wigs so good an entire city won’t recognize someone? Balding men everywhere rejoice.
I don't care what they do in the second season. I still haven't forgiven them for making me think Guyladriel died in a pyroclastic flow and "somehow" she lived.
Oh yeah, that’s the same episode the Queen was suddenly blind, or something. Elendil was fine. Arondir was fine. Now I’m noticing they tried to have these female characters overcome turmoil because they are strong.
I was really feeling down what they did to Tolkien but after watching this video I realized that I’m not alone and feel hopeful again. Thank you Nerdrotic and all other fellow fans for sticking together. They messed with the wrong fans. We won’t let them win!!
As a Tolkien fan/nerd its astounding to me how they could screw up the narrative, marketing and overall delivery of the Rings of Power. The casting is horrible, the tone is horrible and other then some of the character names it has little in the way of the spirit of Tolkien. Middle Earth fans like me consume anything that is Tolkien related, this is one of the first ME based offerings we've walked away from. They left a lot of money on the table for the message, what a shame.
It's really amazing how they managed to screw up absolutely everything. Like, there's not a single good thing about this show. So much wasted potential.
Why Is there Just "diversity" in the Cast and Not also in the dialect/language?. The Cast is a colorful motley Crew of nobodys but they all have These Strange "british" accents. But why? Why Is it ok for them to Sound "White" but Not to be "White"?
The trailer beautifully shows what has been wrong with the show and is going to be wrong again. They treat and think of LotR as the same as some generic fantasy action popcorn cinema blockbuster. They grasp for their formulas and they are failing gloriously.

I bailed in S01E01 after realising her nose was twitching "I hate men" in morse code. The almost audible "ahhhhh..." after wiping the floor with a snow troll with less effort than opening a letter with a scalpel didn't add to the immersion or believability 🤬
It’s not the fact she dispatched the troll so easily (I feel it makes sense, during this “time” Galadriel was older than Legolas and had garnered much experience dealing with such creatures since then.) it’s that she fought in a way that was unconventional to her actual character in the books. She used no words or talismans to defeat the troll and her “elite guard” might as well have been green horn low born men.
OK I´m not saying you made that up, because it would fit really good in the rest of the story, but I do need a bit more background for that. What scene? And how can one twitch in morse code?

The three Elven rings were forged AFTER the 16 lesser rings, bloody amazon couldn't even get that right!

How could they. They didn't even read past the cover of the first book or even one wiki page
Probably had to do it out of order to avoid the copyright stuff.

Tolken's books were set in a mystical world reflecting the high middle ages of northern Europe. But these adaptations have betrayed that legacy by putting in non-white characters who would never have fit into Tolken's world. A note from Tolkien:
"The significance of a myth is not easily to be pinned on paper by analytical reasoning. For myth is alive at once and in all its parts, and dies before it can be dissected."

Why Is there Just "diversity" in the Cast and Not also in the dialect/language?. The Cast is a colorful motley Crew of nobodys but they all have These Strange "british" accents.
But why?
Why Is it ok for them to Sound "White" but Not to be "White"?
Someone called "Halbrand" "Wigolas" and I'm deceased
Also saw someone call the black elf negrolas 😂
Remember folks... don't be hate watching!
It'll only serve Amazons interest
The trailer beautifully shows what has been wrong with the show and is going to be wrong again. They treat and think of LotR as the same as some generic fantasy action popcorn cinema blockbuster. They grasp for their formulas and they are failing gloriously.
More ice trolls, needs more ice trolls
Do you remember when I killed ONE ice troll ALONE in ONE SWING while Gandalf (who is older and more powerful) had a hard time to beat 1 troll with a team of 7. DO YOU REEEEEEMEMEEEEBER 🤣
What killed the dinosaurs?
THE ICE TROLLS!!!
They'll have more than enough trolls in their comments sections. 😊
@@theunknowncommenter725 Nah, only killed Tolkien's legacy, story, and beloved character's. But no worries, Guyladriel will take care of them in one swing, while trains Elven's warriors cowards in the back.
@@ThereIsAlwaysaWay2 Good thing that in this universe, there is only on absolute: everything FREEZES!
My doctor told me that watching this show will cause cancer. He said that the cells in the body refuse to continue to exist.
Which would be the exact opposite of cancer
Id love to know how much Hollywood, Disney, Amazon and Netflix all lost from 2016 to 2024....got to be over quarter of a trillion in total....
lol...if I was an Amazon Prime subscriber I'd cancel just because of the existence of this disrespectful show.
I’ve been hearing for a while now that Amazon wants to fracture their delivery/shipping services from their studios and streaming packages. I personally want this to happen so I have no streaming services in my household
@@brockdavid Ya I like the sound of that a lot.
@@maxvandoorn3799the guy made a joke bruv, because guyladriel’s behavior, not literally morse coding with her nose, but with her actions… maybe like me, you are not english native, but you should improve text interpretation then u will start having even more fun with the language and start understanding jokes and etc
The most ironic thing just happened. Half way through your video testing the RoP season 2 trailer apart, TH-cam decided to give them the trailer as an advertisement. TH-cam is just as out of touch as Amazon. 😂😂😂😂
I made it 20 minutes into the 4th episode before stopping. I came back to it to see how much worse it could possibly get. I'll be kind and call it a human rights atrocity. Maybe a class action lawsuit filed in the UN. Amazon did torture millions worldwide with Season 1.
congrats! you made it one episode further than I did. I bet its because I am older and have suffered more crap shows, so I saw it coming one episode earlier. Kudos for your bravery though!
I tried to hate watch and get a good laugh and STILL couldn’t get past episode 3. I couldn’t believe how boring it was. Plus the worst dialogue I’ve ever seen on tv didn’t help.
The Sea is Always Right!
Yeah even if you look past all of the wokeisms, Which is really bloody difficult. It's just a bad show in itself, For example they never explained why Sauron was on a raft in the middle of the ocean? Randomly Fishing I guess...
The show suffers from trying to do too many things, trying to tell too many stories, and in the process The inevitable happens and it tells nothing. Not to mention all the bad non-canon writing, Pharazôn is supposed to be a war leader and seafarer
