I agree, Im a 47 year old white dude from the Netherlands, In my youth we as family/friends never ever thought of skin color watching TV. We loved the cosby show, fresh prince, the gangster movies from the 90's (menace to society, boyz in the hood etc..) , houseparty movies were legendary funny (kid & play) . Race etc.. was never ever a talking point, LGBT etc.. wasn't a real thing in the movies , but nowadays with companies as Disney , Netflix etc.. this little group of people (around 6% of the population) must be included in every serie/movie. It's to much. We in Holland say, we gave them a finger, and they are taking the whole hand.

First I was angry, then I found it amusing to watch new Star Wars content to see how bad they were. Now I have to come to terms that the franchise I fell in love with is actually dead and never coming back to the greatness it used to be. Where George Lucas made me believe Luke, Han, Leia, and Chewy existed, and the universe was in danger, where there were lessons of never giving up on someone, patience, bravery, and overcoming selfishness to become a hero. I had to come to terms with the fact that we're losing amazing stories and the lessons gained from them.
It was bad. I don't understand why or how there are so many positive reviews. I'm not one of these people who wanted to hate it because the lead was a female of color. I honestly don't care about that stuff as long as the characters and story are good. They weren't. Re being an RT critic, I can shed a bit of light over the process of applying btw having been rejected three times. They ask a series of questions, including race, sex etc. and last I checked, they had a big thing on the application form about wanting more minorities and LGBTQ+ as critics which was more important than length of time in the industry (paraphrasing here and it was a while back when I looked). They then look at your history of writing reviews. You have to submit two of your best and preferably writing for different publications along with mentioning how many reviews you do a month and what content you cover. If it's your own site, they're unlikely to bring you onboard although if you can get 3 critics approved from the same site, the publication is automatically approved. If not, you need to hit over 3 million pageviews a month I believe. Every time I included one scathing negative review and a positive review. Refuse to write for anyone else as they have strict guidelines around being "sensitive" or others want you to include politics, which I personally don't agree with. Been doing this for 5 years now so not a newbie in the field but they probably didn't like my super negative written reviews of Rings of Power, TLJ and Obi-Wan Kenobi (all submitted separately). They also ask you "whether you're an ally" and whether you've been to any film festivals, along with why you should be part of the critic circle. It's a pretty lengthy form, takes about 15-20 minutes to fill out and they take around 6 months to get back in touch. All three times I got a reply back saying I was a good writer but needed "more experience" (guess 4+ years isn't enough?) and that I "wasn't what they were looking for". Hope that helps!

First I was angry, then I found it amusing to watch new Star Wars content to see how bad they were. Now I have to come to terms that the franchise I fell in love with is actually dead and never coming back to the greatness it used to be. Where George Lucas made me believe Luke, Han, Leia, and Chewy existed, and the universe was in danger, where there were lessons of never giving up on someone, patience, bravery, and overcoming selfishness to become a hero. Re being an RT critic, I can shed a bit of light over the process of applying btw having been rejected three times. They ask a series of questions, including race, sex etc. and last I checked, they had a big thing on the application form about wanting more minorities and LGBTQ+ as critics which was more important than length of time in the industry (paraphrasing here and it was a while back when I looked).
They then look at your history of writing reviews. You have to submit two of your best and preferably writing for different publications along with mentioning how many reviews you do a month and what content you cover. If it's your own site, they're unlikely to bring you onboard although if you can get 3 critics approved from the same site, the publication is automatically approved. If not, you need to hit over 3 million pageviews a month I believe.
Every time I included one scathing negative review and a positive review. Refuse to write for anyone else as they have strict guidelines around being "sensitive" or others want you to include politics, which I personally don't agree with.
Been doing this for 5 years now so not a newbie in the field but they probably didn't like my super negative written reviews of Rings of Power, TLJ and Obi-Wan Kenobi (all submitted separately). They also ask you "whether you're an ally" and whether you've been to any film festivals, along with why you should be part of the critic circle. It's a pretty lengthy form, takes about 15-20 minutes to fill out and they take around 6 months to get back in touch. All three times I got a reply back saying I was a good writer but needed "more experience" (guess 4+ years isn't enough?) and that I "wasn't what they were looking for". Hope that helps!
