    Brilliantly logical, common sense/science comparison. Also brilliant because I didn't have to do it myself, though I've wondered.
    Thank you.

    Very good point you made to the body of car and if you clean up the rust on the car is good thing.

    Thanks for the comparison. On my old tractor I’ll be going with BLO I think as it’s a bit cheaper than penetrol.
    Instead of mineral turps, you try mixing it with some ‘pure gum turpentine’. It does the same thing, but smells amazing and eucalyptus-perfect for us Australians. I’ve used it heaps with BLO on woodwork.

    I do wasteland costuming and have been trying to figure out how to seal rust on my rat rod bike. Tried a few spots with rustoleum matte clear coat and while it wasn’t bad I never thought about boiled linseed. I like the look a bit better and am most likely going to flip over to that. Great video very informative. Thank you!

    You can get penetrol at lowes and home depot, not sure about Walmart.
    I've used penetrol on wood projects and it's a tough coating, and I'm pretty sure it'll stop the rust from getting worse because it soaks in, whereas the clear coat won't.

    Hey mate Raw linseed still needs to be mixed with turps as well to cut down on the stickiness we use raw linseed mixed with turps on timber decks

  • @helmutkrahn9337

    After-thought: If I was going with acrylic, I think I'd use disposable foam rollers and a good cutter brush; save on cans, save on masking up. (But then, I'm a painter.) More thinking: Would probably need to mix something into the acrylic to slow down drying time (?)

    • @backshed5295
      @backshed5295  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah a roller could work mate .
      You may just need to thin it a little and do it on a cooler day so as you say the drying time in your roller tray is slowed down. Definitely do-able. 🍺🍺👍

    Would it be a bad idea to rattle coat the penetrol two days after the application? Thinking a thin and moderate in speed spray from 5 inches afar.

    • @backshed5295
      @backshed5295  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the surface rust is coarse then a thin coat won’t seal it and therefore really do not much at all. I’d do 1 or the other not both . If it’s smooth clearcoat works great. Take a look at the HQ video it is sanded smooth and cleared . Looks great.

    • @conceptofeverything8793
      @conceptofeverything8793 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@backshed5295
      Yeah, the surface area plays the biggest role in all of that, thats why Im thinking with molecules. Properly sanded and evened out is a must to not waste any of the products, but what Im assuming is one way to go, is to apply a chemically dense coat first, and something more weather resistant later on. If these two mix together at least.
      Unless one can afford a bunch of whatever, then its alright coating even the dirt.
