  • In this video, we will be talking about the worrying news of the NEW anti-tourism saturation protest soon to be taking place in Mallorca, Spain.
I have also received messages over the past couple of days from worried holidaymakers who are coming to Mallorca on holiday as to whether events in Barcelona will be replicated in their Mallorca holiday.
I will talk about this issue, and then show you what the resorts are really like as we walk through Magaluf and Palmanova.
How will you be affected by the protest? Find out here.

Locals and local Councils and Governments accepting massive amounts of money from tourism for DECADES , why were they not building homes for locals ? Isn't the problem not greedy local businesses, greedy councils and government mismanaging the huge profits and not reinvesting. Maybe the anger is being directed to the wrong people. ????

@@soundssimple1 But the problems have only arisen since companies like AirBnB have sprung up like mushrooms. It is certainly a mistake for governments to allow this type of rental, or they would have to tax it much more heavily to make it unattractive.

@JG-dr8lh exactly the same issue everywhere, I live in a seaside town in the UK and every other property is an air BnB! The locals have been priced out of the area or worse, made homeless. You don't see us screeching and spitting at holiday makers visiting our area. The footage I've seen is terrible. The Spanish aren't the only ones living through this but they are the only ones personally attacking tourists.

We're just back from Majorca. Only sign we saw of any protest was a poster hanging from a window in Alcudia. What do the residents think will happen if they're successful in curbing tourism? Jobs will go, businesses will close. We went to Alcudia on market day, and yes it was absolutely mobbed, but businesses seemed to be happy to welcome tourists. Same in Pollensa.

Spain ranks third after Italy and Greece when it comes to illegal immigration. All these people must be housed by governments until processed, leading to an unprecedented shortage of accommodation all over Europe. Couple this with a massive surge in tourism since covid and we have the perfect storm .
Thanks Alex for your very fair and honest evaluation of the situation in Mallorca . There really is no need for people cancelling holidays because of what they read in the gutter press .

It's not the gutter press as you call it , I seen for myself how the protesters were squirting water at people while they were sitting down eating food at local restaurants, they were not drunk or causing a scene, and as someone as already said the immigrants need to be housed which has a knock on effect of rising prices , but if they don't want to make money from tourism then people should go elsewhere

It’s not so simple. There will always be a supply and demand on the black market. Also Spain’s squatters rights means landlords don’t want to rent long term when they can lose their property to squatters and many properties are bought up by Northern Europeans that have more money than locals on low salaries. And why is Mallorca building more hotels if there is no housing for workers?

Hello Alex, we have just returned home to Bath UK on 11th July after staying at hotel Comodoro on Son Maties beach for two weeks and we can say that we couldn't have been made to feel more welcome. Not our usual holiday time but we were celebrating our 45th wedding anniversary. I agree with your advice about the possibility of thefts on the beaches in a previous video (this can happen anywhere) so just be aware and try to not take anything to the beach you can't do without, leave it in the hotel safe. Just another thing I would like to mention is how quick and easy the passport check and stamp is for UK tourists at Palma airport, in and out. It was very busy but It was so much better than last time we came. We hope to be back in September. Best wishes, Richard and Becky.

Those protests mainly seem to be in Spain and Italy although Italy seems pretty much restricted to Venice and I haven't read about places like Rome and Florence having them. With Spain it seems much more widespread.

And we did want to visit Palma for the day but decided against it due to the protests. Love the island but we wont be bothering with Spain or any Spanish islands for a while now! I was at the Globales Santa Lucia last week. We didn’t notice anything bad but we did notice a heavier police presence which made us feel safe. Unfortunately a lot of people won’t choose to visit Spain now for their holidays as there are many other countries that will welcome tourism

Just back fro a week in a beautiful area between Soller and the Port. It was very busy in both towns with tourists and cars - parking very difficult. All bars were busy and restaurants needed to be booked. I saw no hostility towards tourists and the staff at our hotel seemed unaware of any problems. Palma was a disappointment, having visited the island about 15 times, i have never before seen the makeshift arrangement of tents and people living in cars on the outskirts and a huge number of tourists, some obviously from a cruise ship in the harbour. I will go back to Mallorca i just hope Mallorcans realise that without us, they may just struggle.....dont bite the hand that feeds you
